Dear Sir or Madam good and happy holiday Paramus Park Retail Store Paramus, NJ 888-490-3837 I spent $1,000 in this store today, but the manager treated me with an extremely poor attitude. I have no idea what I did to offend her. I've been coming to this location for two years and have never experienced anything like this. It made me feel very unhappy and uncomfortable. She even falsely accused me of returning items "too often." I must strongly disagree with this. When the store doesn't have certain items, your own employees special-order them for me. Sometimes they accidentally order extras, and they tell me to return the additional items. Yet this manager claims that I "love to return things," which is completely untrue. On top of that, she even told me that I "stayed in the store too long." If I don't take my time trying on clothes and checking whether something fits, or learning about the functions of the products, how could I possibly feel confident spending so much money? LL Bean products are not cheap. Is this something a manager should be saying? This feels like discrimination and an abuse of authority. At this point, it honestly feels like a shame to spend money in this store -- especially when I spent so much today -- only to be treated this way. You really need to be careful with this new manager. Her attitude is terrible, and she treats people differently. I am an older customer, and most LL Bean shoppers are also older adults. No one wants to spend a lot of money just to be treated disrespectfully. I've visited many LL Bean stores and have never had such an unpleasant experience. The female manager's name is Grace -- please stay away from her. I will also be telling the elders in our church not to visit this store anymore. Please be aware. And if the store continues treating customers this way, you will close down sooner or later. Just look at the REI store next door -- it has already shut down. The selection at L.L. Bean is decent, with just about everything you can think of. Most of the clothing I found, at least in the men's department, had quite a number of clothes that struck out, mainly the style they use. Each of the departments looked pretty well stocked and cleaned up, and also enough room to get around. Many of the other big products they offer are outdoor equipments, home goods, and also traveling bags. There weren't a lot of sales associates on the floor, and most of them didn't greet us, except one older person. Oh, how times have changed. I'm impressed with the all products they offer. read more

Services are not good at LL Bean. I placed an order on line, late afternoon,and as I clicked the" place order button I realized that I had placed previously an order for the same item. I immediately called LL Bean customer service to cancel it, gave them order number, name, address, phone number, e-mail was on the phone with them for quite a while. The rep told me she had used different options to locate the order and could not find it in their system. She suggested I called next day because she would put a note in the system that I had called to cancel the order. Next day at 9.00 am I called, the order had not been cancelled and there was no information on the system about my call on the day before requesting cancellation. Now, if the order is received I will have to drive for about 10 miles to return it. read more

Fantastic staff! Joni greeted me at the entrance, and ably and cheerfully walked me through the process of returning a few gift items for credit. Over to the shoe department, and Nina carefully sized my feet (as Bean original shoes size large-traditionally worn with heavy woolen socks), and we found my normal 11 1/2 translates into a 9 in the style I wanted! As they didn't have my choice in stock Nina looked up availability, but it's sold out. I still enjoyed the shopping experience and look forward to using my credited gift cards on other items! read more

PROS: This place is the only LL Bean store in the entire area. This store has very friendly staff where I've never had a problem with. All their stuff is beautifully displayed and they are clean. CONS: This business is known for selling the bulk of their inventory online because most of their stores don't carry a lot. Here's my issue with LL Bean. They charge you $79.99 for their sweatshirt on their website and they make you think you're getting a deal with free shipping. When you get the sweatshirt, the price tag on the shirt says $69.99. So why did I get charged $79.99? It's because I am paying for the shipping and LL Bean probably profits a few dollars from customers paying that extra $10. read more

LL Bean is a great place to have a job and buy clothes for your family since 1912. I used to work at LL Bean as a group internship with Springboard in Paramus. I used to fold clothes on the laundry folder, put the tags inside the jackets, khakis, jeans, sweaters, and children's clothing. The staff were very nice to me at LL Bean. Disgraceful excuse for a store, with employees who could not be more disrespectful, hateful or racist! I stopped shopping in this store pre-Covid when I noticed that employees would shadow me while I did nothing more than look at their imported, never-made-in-America rack selections of pants or shirts. After a minute or two in the try-on room, I remember nasty employees hitting the door and yelling "Is there any problem?" as if my try-on time equated to stealing! So I stopped going, finding the Paramus LL Bean to epitomize the worst in hateful, abusive customer treatment, with profiling of shoppers based on demographics and their own sick prejudices. But even in limiting my visits to the store to nothing more than having to return a defective online purchase, the vile treatment by Bean's horrid Paramus store staff didn't skip a beat! With hardly anyone at their register area, I went to stand behind the person whom I thought was next in line, only to have two nasty employees shout over that I was allegedly "standing in the wrong place!" and needed to move! For goodness sake, please close this despicable excuse for a store! For virtually all imported, overpriced clothing and shoes, nothing more than the online service is needed if Bean is being patronized in the first place. I was here two months ago when passing through the area. It's one thing to look in a catalog. But it's very nice to be in the real store with all the things from the catalogue. Especially this one, with tons of options and sizes. Just like when you call the catalogue, the employees here know the merchandise and are super helpful and knowledgable. 4th star for the great environment here. I don't know if they prep all their staff with granola tree hugging goodness in the mornings, but I have yet to encounter anything but a happy, chipper, helpful employees. The selection here is not that large but the quality is good and it lasts forever. I like LL bean for comfy bedtime stuff. With my bday gift card, I left there with a gorgeous pair of shearling slippers and double lined flannel PJ's. (flannel is in the inside as well as the outside) Their flannel pjs last for YEARS. When they had their outlet store in Flemmington, they had tons more from furniture (which is made so well) to sporting goods (kyacks etc) to clothing. You were also able to buy their luggage with someone else's monogram on it. The stuff was dirt cheap and brand new. My good friend from England proudly flew back home with his new bag sporting the name PATEL. He cherishes it to this day. read more

Lots of people prefer LL Bean because they don't adorn their clothing with their trademark. Personally, I prefer sporting labels (within reason). It's basically just letting people know what's happening with your life. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into bedazzled stuff like 7 for all mankind, but I'm definitely into rocking the big logo on a Polo Ralph Lauren knit (collar popped). That people that shop at LL Bean are comfortable in the woods, particularly in the woods during cold weather season. I actually own a pair of the gumshoe boots. It's comfortable, durable, and is like a security blanket when you're on a camping near a lake. When it comes to outerwear, I prefer North Face. But the LL Bean offerings are great second options. And the store is definitely stock full of jackets for men, women, and children. You can also purchase butt slides here. Kinda cool. I'd probably head to Campmoor or Meltzer's for serious camping gear though. But for the casual outdoor enthusiast, this store is a nice one-stop shot. The solar radios are overpriced... read more

This location is the closest LL Bean remotely close to NYC. I've been here twice now and while their outdoor clothing looks exactly like Patagonia, LL Bean does have a better variety of everyday wear. I found a few things that I would totally wear. My boyfriend and I went this past weekend because he wanted to buy some pants and boots. I found a pair of duck boots that I really liked, but they didn't have my size (in kids). But tell me why kids shoes are the same price as adults'... Their employees were eager to help, and offered to order items online for us when they couldn't find our sizes. Overall, this store had a lot of options in store and I'll definitely be back to pick up a few items in the future. read more

Being one of the biggest L.L. Bean fans in the world I decided to give this place a try. I have visited their flagship store in Freeport, Maine and that place will always hold a special place in my heart. However, this store does the trick when you want to do some browsing instead of figuring colors out on a computer screen. The store was definitely busy because it's December in Bergen County, NJ. The staff is friendly (shocking for a Jersey place), helpful, and it doesn't seem to rushed or fake. There are hanging signs that show the department's that they have so you know where to head to. L.L. Bean is a fabulous company that really stands by their products. They offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee, with no time limit. Who does that anymore? I called the store on Thursday, to test out this guarantee. I spoke with a lovely woman and I explained to her that a coating in my backpack was peeling. She told me to bring in the backpack and they would look at it. That I would be able to exchange it or get credit. So, Friday afternoon, I hopped in my car and drove up Route 17 to see if it was really that simple. I walked into the store with my old backpack which I loved dearly (it traveled all over the US, Europe, and the Caribbean with me). I got up to the registers and told the gentleman what happened, and he walked with me over to the backpacks and we grabbed a brand new Deluxe Backpack. I handed over my Driver's License (because I didn't have my receipt) and it was done within minutes. The newer Deluxe Backpack is a bit smaller than my old one was (and I think a tad bit less expensive), but my old one was useless to me in its current state. So, I'm more than thrilled that I was able to trade it in for a newer model. I'm super impressed with L.L. Bean as a company and as a retail store. I have been purchasing L.L. I think LL Bean clothing is really good. When you have a lifetime warranty on your products, you know that you are making it to last. The one time that I have had a problem with their product, they replaced it quickly and efficiently. I have been to the flagship store in Freeport and this location pales in comparison to it (I had been told prior to going that this was a really really nice store, so upon hearing this and then consequently visiting, I was really really let down). The selection was decent- they had all their major stuff, however I was let down in that unlike the Freeport store where every article of clothing also had the tall equivalent in stock, this one did not. However like Jeff W. said, this place is great for being able to see and feel the products in person as opposed to from a computer screen or catalog. LL Bean does have some camping stuff, however I would go here mostly for the clothing and then head down the road to REI for the actual camping supplies. read more

What happened to their Customer Service? I had heard raving reviews about their 100% Satisfaction Guarantee policy, and I really respected a company that stood by their products. My husband and I purchase from various outdoor companies that willingly do so. I had NEVER made a return prior to Thursday, but I had a few items to return: 2 that were purchased after their return policy change of February 9, 2018 (both still had all tags included and never been used) and 2 that were prior, purchased in July 2017 (still had the original receipt). The 2 purchased after the return policy update went fine. However, the 2 purchased PRIOR to the change in July 2017 were refused at the desk! I told them that they both had been too large and cumbersome that the products it held would flop and spill around, so I've actually purchased 2 smaller sizes since. I had used both ONCE earlier this year even though they were purchased last year, but I live far away and couldn't make a trip down to return them at the store, but that was OK; LLBean had an amazing return policy, right? Well, it turns out they don't. The plastic on the netting had started to wear down after a little over a year and created 2 medium & 1 small size holes, and that didn't bother me even though it's clearly a manufacturer's defect; that SHOULD NOT happen after such a short time, and I can strongly assume that others have complained about that issue as well. Other than that, the items were still in great condition, they were just way too large for me. But the return was refused at the desk because it didn't fall under the "Special Conditions" category and returns have become "more strict", and it was shipped to corporate for a secondary layer of approval after a supervisor/manager(?) was involved. (Again, what happened to 100% Customer Satisfaction "Guaranteed"??) I called LLBean customer service immediately upon returning home, and will continue to keep in touch with them as the return reviewal process progresses. Sorry LLBean, but CLEARLY you and your store no longer stand behind your products, which was the reason many supported your company in the first place, including myself. In this world of so many cheap products & cheap policies, I thought you stood above it. I understand that the updated policies were instituted to prevent abuse, but as I stated to the salesperson and supervisor/manager(?), this was my FIRST RETURN ever to your store. If there was a pattern of abuse of the policy on my end, then shame on me, I should know better... but this was NOT the case. I even suggested that they look up my information to verify my statement. I really like LL Bean. Their stuff does last a long time and I have been satisfied with their customer service on the 2 occasions I needed to warranty something. First things first, I still have a basic book bag I bought from LL Bean when I was in college around 1995. While it certainly doesn't look new, this book bag has lasted almost 20 freaking years! My dad uses it now and I think the biggest draw is how tough and comfortable it is. He thought about buying a new one but realized that the new ones just aren't the same. I wonder when if this bookbag will ever fall apart?!?! Like I mentioned earlier, we had to warranty 2 items. One was my wife's fleece vest a couple years ago and more recently my daughter's fleece jacket. The former had issues with a seam splitting or something and the latter had issues with the zipper. They replaced both no questions asked. I ordered a couple more things online on Columbus Day 2014 and they arrived Wed. QUUUUUICK! BTW they seem to be running more sales now maybe to compete with Lands End. They run 10% off quite often and sometimes if you spend $50 or more you get a $10 gift card. Recently they had a 20% off along with the $10 GC which I thought was a fantastic deal (although I didn't get anything that time LOL) Great Job LL Bean! read more

Went here to get some boots for winter and the guys working over in the shoe department were amazing. Fabian, in particular, helped me try on at least five different pairs and when the only one that fit was the display shoe he spent so long looking in the back for the other shoe. When he couldn't find it (and actually felt bad about it) he called other stores to help me order the boots and get them shipped to my house. He just really went above and beyond in customer service to help me get what I need. He knew the products well and made sure I was happy with what I was getting! read more

Exceptional customer service for Northern NJ, something I rarely see around here, they must have been flown in from out-of-state. Very knowledgable and helpful staff. While in the store, I was impressed by the interest shown towards customers and concern over whether customers were purchasing exactly what they wanted. Products I've bought from Bean are a little more money but are high quality and much longer lasting than the cheap stuff. Nina was the salesperson and she was rude and condescending from the 1st word out of her mouth. I asked about shearling lined Bean Boots and she looked at me like I was an idiot and said "NO, we don't have them. It's JULY!" I asked if my daughter could try on a pair of what they did have for size and she seemed extremely annoyed. She couldn't get us out of her department fast enough. To be clear I don't blame the LLbean customer service team members as I'm certain that they are probably bound by some inane policy. With that said, this experience was abhorrent. I've been loyal to the LLbean brand for over 10 years wearing only LLbean winter coats. Wanting to take advantage of the Veteran's Day sale I placed an order for a coat I've had my eye on. Three days later I returned to the website to purchase a hat but first I wanted to see if my new coat had been assigned tracking information only to find out that my order had been cancelled and now the coat is sold out. I didn't anticipate this headache to get any worse but it did when I was told that I would have to call the LLBean store in Maine to have a coat shipped to me from their stock. The ball was clearly dropped on more than one level and I'm disappointed with the way LLBean handled this transaction every step of the way. For one, if the inventory of a particular item is running low the item should be removed from the website. Further, if an item that doesn't physically exist was somehow sold the buyer should be notified; I had always assumed this could be the only reason for why my phone number and email address are pertinent information required when purchasing outerwear. I expected that contacting customer service would make me feel better instead of worse but again I was mistaken. I purchased a coat to be delivered to my home in NJ but for some reason customer service told me that they might have stock at an LLBean store in Maine and I should call the store to purchase it. I still can not fathom a reason for why the customer needed to call a store to purchase a coat that he had already purchased moreover, why LLBean could not call LLBean to arrange for the coat to be delivered to my home pursuant to our original agreement. I wish this story had a happy ending but obviously not all things are perfect. I called Maine to repurchase the coat over the phone and I quickly realized why over the phone shopping had never really gained any traction. I guess I'm lucky because the coat was supposedly in stock so I reaffirmed my purchase commitment to this coat however when I asked the representative to tell me the purchase price she informed me that she was not in front of a register at the moment. I was either on the phone with a psychic or LLBean is using a pad and pencil to place orders as it is still unclear how the sales person managed to run my credit card without a register. After respelling my last name 3 times I obviously had to resubmit the mandatory personal contact information for purchasing apparel. I'm beginning to think the collection and possible resale of my email address and phone number is what is really driving profits at LLBean because they clearly aren't concerned with actually contacting their customers or retaining long time patrons. I sit here cold, still without a coat; I hope this works out this time but I guess I won't know until I check my credit card statement or receive a call from a telemarketer. After all that I am still somewhat sad that I might have just purchased my last LLBean winter coat. If I could give this company negative stars, I would. The firms who ranked L.L. Bean at the top of the customer service industry must be pyramid schemes, because anybody with the ability to call the L.L. Bean customer service line can tell a different story. My boyfriend ordered boots with L.L. Bean on December 21st, and only after calling three times for a tracking number was he ever emailed one. Mid-January rolled around before the tracking numbers showed that his boots would ship, and when they finally did arrive - a pair of women's shoes only fitting for an old hag were in the place of the bean boots that have now taken over a MONTH to arrive. The women's slip on shoes have now been mailed back, and L.L. Bean is now saying that my boyfriend has to create a new order (which he has to pay for, again) before he can be refunded AGAIN. Because my boyfriend shipped the hag shoes that he was never supposed to receive in the first place back, L.L. Bean cancelled the order and is making him jump through hoops for a problem that this company created itself. L.L. Bean has now told my boyfriend that these boots are on backorder until MARCH, after he ordered them in DECEMBER. Really L.L. Bean?! We live in TEXAS, and by the time March rolls around, he won't get to wear the boots until next year due to your company error. When he called customer service to try and get this mess figured out he was greeted with supervisors who were unwilling to help solve the problem that their company created. This is not what it looks like to be ranked the #1 company in customer service, and it would be wise to for L.L.Bean to get a head start on turning their customer service department around. Trust me when I say that I will find EVERY SINGLE site possible that allows me to leave a review on this company and tear them to shreds. This company is not worthy of having loyal customers and I will personally make sure that you no longer do. In an age where it can take a split second to post something on a social site, it would be wise of the company to not staff their customer service department with ignorant and uneducated individuals who are unwilling to provide even the lowest level of customer service possible. I like LL Bean and have always had great experiences with them in Freeport or online, but I will not shop in the Paramus store again. I had a bathrobe that did not hold up well. I called customer service and they said to go ahead and buy a new one (slightly different) and then to return the old one. I was to receive the value of the new one back. I went to Paramus to complete the return and the store manager (Sam I think) refused to complete the return. He insisted that the bathrobes were different and was rude. I asked him about their lifetime warranty and he smugly replied that it was a "satisfaction guarantee". I do not know what the difference is but I guess he thinks that it means that he can be rude and demeaning to customers. I explained that I already spoke to customer service and was simply following what they told me. I ended up having to hold up the line and call customer service and they made the store manager refund my money. There were dozens of ways he could have handled this better. i applied online for a seasonal job at the ll bean paramus,nj store. i then got an email asking me to call to set up an interview. i spoke to a women who took my name, confirmed that i was in the system. she then said, that she couldnt set up an appointment and should call back later. i called back 6 hours later. at which point i got a guy, he confirmed that the woman received my earlier call and apologized. he explained the women i spoke to is waiting on the women at the store in paramus, who hasnt even bothered to set up her interviewing schedule for her store es. this company is supposedly the best in customer service. based on this initial experience i find them extremely unprofessional. i would fire both women and promote the guy i spoke to. at least he apologized for the women wasting my time. i will wait for the woman from the paramus store responible for the delay to call me. based on my experience with ll bean so far, i am going to go to work for home depot where i know they have unprofessional manangers running the show instead of heading into the great unknown adventures at ll bean...i think i will call and email all my friends who purchase items at ll bean at tell them how bad i feel after these two phone calls. david kledt - throughly disgusted with ll bean. i hope they are bankrupt soon. there are plenty of other customer service jobs now that the economy is getting healthier. i can wait for the perfect job. read more
