I've been coming here for years as my boyfriend is an avid skier and he recently convinced me to get back on the mountain and learn to ski (I've always snowboard). Learning to ski in my 30s felt a bit intimidating, but the team at Mount Everest in Westwood made the process so much easier and more enjoyable! The staff are incredibly friendly, honest, and helpful, especially Andrew, who went above and beyond to assist me with rentals and gear suited for my skill level. He took the time to explain everything, making me feel confident and comfortable as a beginner. He even would crack a joke from time to time to help me to not over think and stress so much. On top of that, their selection of gear and brands is fantastic, definitely some of the best I've seen in the Bergen county area. They also run great sales, so you can get high-quality equipment and name brands at a great price. I can't recommend Mount Everest enough for anyone, whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting like me. I'll definitely be coming back! The only downside to their Westwood location is finding parking as it is all street parking and fills up rather fast. read more

There isn't many other options for ski gear near me so I always end up coming here last min. They have great options but every time I leave this place I feel dissatisfied because it's expensive and the service is meh. I'm writing this review bc they really hit the nail on the coffin this time. I came there to mount new bindings on my skis and got hit with a service charge almost as much as the bindings. They told me to come back in about 10 days because they are backed up. I show up and they give me my skis with the same bindings I had before. Like "here is ur skis you paid $350 for nothing". Imagine I was new to skiing and didn't know any better? They then made me wait another hour until they mount them. Smh can't believe this happened. You pay a lot for terrible service at this place. read more

If you rent earlier in the season you can have more to choose from. We rented around October so didn't get top notch gear. The staff were amicable. The cons are that I had to call them at least on 7 different occasions between August 15 when I returned my equipment till May 3rd when I finally received my deposit back. Absolutely ridiculous! Their excuses were "I mailed it out" "our accountant mailed it out and will check" never to get a call back. Or that they "sent it out and had to wait for that to clear before resending." The way I got the deposit back was adamantly call and ask for them to overnight the check immediately with a tracking number. Magically I got a check within 1 week or so after that. It's insane that we have to chase them for our deposit back. read more

Rental packages for kids are great, but go early in the season. However, I had them tune my skis 2 years ago and it was terrible. The edges were too sharp, and they put diagonal groves on the base of my skis. I had to get them retuned at the Killington shop which cut into my ski time. read more

The place is fine. Expensive, but fine. Well stocked and the workers are certainly nice enough. My issue is with their refusing to timely repay deposits. I brought my skis back in early July and was told they do not refund the credit card. Instead, they send a check. Odd, but fine. At this time, I was told I would have a check in a few weeks. In late August I called and asked about the check and was told that they do not send out the deposit checks until the end of August and that I should expect to wait another month or so. I am sure I will get my money, but not until Mt. Everest is ready to release it back, at their convenience. Maybe they should change their name to Mr. Interest. read more

I've had nothing but great experiences with this location. I wanted to add another pair to my ski collection (read: hoarding) and came here during one of their annual sales event. We were helped by Gabriella who was so sweet and her knowledge of different types of ski was absolutely amazing. And their price was a few hundred under what I could find from Level9 or Evo for the specific pair I purchased. So extra stars for that. read more

Came in to get the new board i got last week for my boyfriend mounted and adjustment. We ended up getting his feet sized for new boots. Ozzy was extremely helpful. He told up everything we needed to know about the boots, because it turns out you need to size down. Which we didn't know. He told us we needed to change the bindings i originally bought. He took his time. It was a good experience and very helpful. Will recommend everyone come to Mount Everest since all the employees are snowboarders/ skiers themselves so they can help you more then other employees in a general store. Their prices for services such has tuning and waxing are also cheaper then stores like REI. One thing i thought that was really cool is you can rent boots and boards/ skis for the season. Absolutely love this store. They actually change it over for two seasons cooler weather and warm weather. I usually pop in circa October to get my skis ready and rented. If there's anything else I need they have all you can imagine and more. We rent boots as well and they are always super helpful and have ample options to choose from. Customer service is fantastic and honestly I don't have one complaint. When I went in to inquire from renting boots to attempting to buy last season the gentleman in the boot section was extremely patient and took me through all the different models for my foot. I have a difficult foot so needed guidance. I decided to rent another year but will be buying after this season. During the warmer weather they switch over to summer gear so you can get bathing suits and anything for outdoor summer activities. Definitely recommend for your ski gear and ski rentals. This place is irritatingly unorganized. I'm not sure why they make you book an appointment for boot fittings if they're not going to honor it anyway. My appointment was for 1:00pm and I came at 12:45. By 1:15 someone finally spoke to me about my fitting and immediately a woman came over to tell me another customer needed help instead. I waited for another 15 minutes and still wasn't spoken to. Extremely disappointing, they used to be a great store with a great selection and now it's an absolute mess with not much to choose from. paid $55 bucks for what they call a max tune. one week later i come to pick it up... the snowboard base still feels dry and rough and has a lot if white spots. they refuse to fix it. save your money, don't come here to tune your board. this shop isn't as good as it use to be in the past. I needed help with my pool filter that was leaking. I spoke with Doug on the phone to try and figure out the problem. i was able to bring the filter into the store, and what could have cost me well over $200.00, cost me nothing. In all honesty the only reason this didn't receive one star is because I actually made it out of the store with what I went in to purchase (a snowboard). To begin, I went in with a friend who was looking for snow pants after being lost and confused with the sales we were finally told that the whole store had the same sale although only some racks showed it. After finding a few pairs we asked where the fitting room was and the young girl at the register told us with almost a snotty attitude as if we were blind and could see through the huge racks to know it was hidden in the side. (This was our first time there.) After finding the right pair of pants we proceeded to go look at their snowboards. We were greeted by an employee with a hat on who gave us an attitude after finding out this was our first purchase of a snowboard. Instead of encouraging us or actually giving great tips he began to talk about himself and his recommendations which were far from what i wanted. After explaining what I was looking for he asked how many years ive been riding and i proceeded to tell him 4 years to where he criticized me and said i couldnt be "intermediate to advanced" because i didnt know a certain pair of boots. After this, he was truthfully annoying and when asking for a size 12 in boots he continuously REFUSED to bring them out and brought out 5 different pairs of size 11's. After feeling uncomfortable i asked to just try a size 12 and he said no because it would make his job harder. Long story short if you do decide to shop here just dont talk to any of the workers. read more

Doug helped me out with my boot fitting, and not only was he super nice and knowledgeable, he answered all of my questions and let me try on multiple pairs of boots. He not only saved me a ton of time by making the process very convenient, but he also saved me hundreds of dollars, stopping me from buying a boot that didn't properly fit. Ridgewood Experience: The kids try to be helpful and do a nice job of it, and if they can't offer a solution to a customer's concern, they rightfully defer to the manager. But when that little guy with the big manager attitude comes along and sticks his chest out like you've just interrupted him from his video game, he brings along his inability to offer solutions, is unapologetic, condescending, and overall rude & disinterested. Maybe opening this additional location was a poor exercise in quantity over quality, or maybe the tactless guy they left in charge was the poor choice in the matter. They're not at all the only ski place around, they really shouldn't pretend like the customer doesn't have another choice. read more

I had a frustrating experience at another sporting goods rental place. Finding Mount Everest was the best outcome of that experience. The retail associate on the phone was a peach. The rental staff (Nick and Ramón) was communicative and helpful and though they ultimately were unable to help me with rentals (I waited too long this year, that's on me), they helped me invest in the first skis I have ever owned. The salesman (Steve) (and Gabby who helped me with pickup) for my skis helped me stay within my budget, find the best equipment for me and helped me feel comfortable about the commitment of my purchase. 9/4/23 230pm, traveled from Brooklyn, NY with entire family, to rent skis and boots and hopefully exchange two ski masks (tags new and unused). We have an account here and are returning customers. Approached counter and asked if possible to make exchange (not money back), saleswomen replied back with "No", and nothing else. Felt very cold, unhelpful and unfriendly. The ski mask was recommended to us by our salesperson after we bought jackets, gloves and pants and we bought it without trying it on. Visited the yearly Mount Everest sale at MetLife stadium. The deals are pretty good but it's better to go on the first day when they have the most stock. My friend purchased a pair of skis for me but the employees failed to give him the bindings which were charged on the receipt. A week later he went to the store to pick up the bindings but the employees refused, which didn't make sense since they forgot to give what was paid for and secondly I'm coming from queens which really isn't close. The employee suggested that I just come in and they would fit the bindings for me for $25. I actually placed a phone call to the store about this and the girl who answered the phone was very snooty. Fast forward a week later, I visited the store myself. One of the guys at the service rental initially said I needed to purchase the bindings myself since I didn't get them at the sale. A manager was nearby and said that they were bounded by tape at the sale. There was no evidence of that on my skis so he went to the back to retrieve one for me. You'll need your boots and skis so they can properly set up the bindings. They quoted me 30-40 minutes if I waited but even had the audacity to ask if I wanted to come back tomorrow after I told him it took almost an hour to get there. The girls at the front register were friendly and helped me find a pair of googles. They've got a really wide selection of items, but the prices are more on the higher side. Definitely check out this place during their huge sale as it's cheaper. read more

I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Purchased multiple snowboards tons of gear and been using for rentals for my children. Last week I returned rentals from last year. Not even used this year and received $140 in late charges. That was 40 today and their keeping of two $50 deposits. Couldn't return last year during covid and due to circumstances including getting covid and Not receiving a return by day for for this year among other reasons due to covid, this was the soones possible for return. I mentioned this and was still charged. How's that for Loyalty. read more

Mt Everest has been great for ski season supplies and I've easily spent over $10K there over the past few years. However, this year we made what was surprisingly an unfortunate decision to use them for our pool opening based on our experiences with them in the winter (and the fact that we've gone to them for all our pool chemicals, robot vacuum, net.. everything). We paid $550 - which is $100 more than our prior pool company and all they did was take off the cover, dump in chemicals and test the filter. The pool was left completely filthy and will now require us to pay even more money to actually open the pool officially. When speaking with them, instead of finding a way to accomodate a 10 year+ client who spends a fortune there, they instead got defensive citing the number of years of experience their pool tech guy has (who cares) and the fact that they have "repeat" customers. They even tried to infer/imply that the fact we changed pool companies might be a reflection on us. Just wow. I rarely write these reviews but given the motivation today felt obligated to do so. Not only are we frustrated and angry with the service, but they've now lost a long time customer who generated significant revenue for them...and they could care less. Only giving one star because you can't give zero. Hopefully this helps warn others as to how they treat customers and what to expect if you are considering their services. read more

DO. NOT. GO. TO. THIS. STORE. If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would. I dropped off my skis & boots for a repair/adjustment on January 4th, was told to come back on January 15th. I came back on January 23rd, giving an extra week for the repairs. I paid for the repairs on the spot. However, when I showed up to pick them up on January 23rd - THREE WEEKS LATER - I was told the work wasn't done because they didn't know I had already paid. A simple computer search was able to indicate to the employee I did in fact, already pay. I was not notified by phone or email. I was told the service would be another hour which I did not have given my skis were already there for THREE WEEKS and had somewhere to be. I attempted to call to speak to the manager more than 5 times on Sunday, and no one answered. On Monday, I finally got through to someone who put me on hold for 15 minutes while getting the manager. When I spoke to the manager, he did not have an answer for me but told me to call back in a few hours once he was able to discuss this with his boss. When I called back, I was told he was busy and he would call me back. He has still not called me back. Save your time, energy, and money, and go ANYWHERE else for your ski/snowboard needs. Never ever ever give this store business. read more

I went into the store asking for help buying a ski coat for my 4-year-old daughter. She was very rude and said, "I cant I am busy with other stuff". Before I left I used the restroom and there was mold on the toilet seats which was disgusting. I ran out once I saw that. Thank god I did not buy anything from there. Awful experience. Great spot for all your snow sport needs! I ended up going to their Stadium sale* at Giants stadium and picked up a bunch of new gear on the cheap, so I went on over here for them to assemble and they did so quickly and cheaply! They have a bunch of inventory of snowboards, skis and of course some pretty sweet gear to make ya look good on the slopes. Honestly one of the bigger snow sport only stores I've been to in New Jersey! I went on a random weekday and other than the knowledgeable guys helping out at the snowboard center, I didn't see too much help walking around looking to assist. Good or bad, depends on what you like. Overall, a nice little winter sports mecca in the 'burbs! You can bet I'll be back for any future needs! *Stadium sale is a once a year sale in the beginning of December where they sell last year gear as well as current models at a discounted price! read more

I was just browsing for a possible new ski helmet and Michael went out if his way to search for a helmet to my liking . He spent so much time with me and found a black helmet that looked and fit great but I had my heart set on a white helmet. He called the Ridgewood location and they had my size in white . He also helped me with goggles and found a pair I loved. I waited til I got to the Ridgewood location so I could try the goggles with the white helmet and it looked great so I purchased both. I needed skis for my family for the season and Mount Everest had been recommended by a friend. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable but I was surprised to hear that it would take 3-4 weeks to get my skis. I understand that it was already late November but I thought that was extreme. We decided to use them anyway and did receive the skis in time for our trip at the end of December. The equipment was adequate so no complaints there. What really bothered me is that when I went to return the skis in May I was told that since they were not due back until September 1st I would not receive my $200 deposit until then. They offered to give me a discount on next years rental if I rolled over the deposit until next year but I said no. They gladly took the skis back but I still don't have my deposit.
