In June 2024, I survived a concussion serving those with special needs in our community. I am…read moreunable to take a lot of modern pharmaceutical medication due to experiencing rare side effects confirmed by a neurologist three years prior to this event in my life. Hence, most providers only responding by prescribing medication that I am unable to take. The pain, dizziness, nausea, and sensory overload (light and sound) were unbearable. The symptoms only seem to intensify as the days of recovery turned into weeks. I walked like I was on a boat in the middle of the perfect storm. In desperation for relief from the symptoms an appointment was made with Dr. Shawna Townsend. The first appointment Dr. Townsend used Carnio Sacral therapy to gently begin the process of helping my brain heal one new connection at a time. My entire nervous system was needing a self-correct. The first session began with helping my brain to feel safe. This corrected the "walking on a boat in rough waters" sensation. It reduced the pain felt down to the skull and through to the brain. I instantly felt better and slept better that night. The second session addressed the underlying pain causing nausea and tenderness of the scalp. I could not fix my hair before the session due to the over sensitivity to touch of the scalp. After the session, I could fix my hair again. Concussions are unpredictable in their healing. Symptoms can mask other symptoms not originally presenting at the time of trauma. In my case, that was part of my issues. One symptom covered another symptom. My healing took several weeks to address and treat. They were treated using Crano Sacral therapy and physical therapy stretches. The remaining sessions addressed diminishing hearing or complete deafness to the ability to track movement in an area with my eyes. Her PEMF mat provided heat, red lights, and an electromagnetic field, and was a slice of heaven to lay on. Dr. Townsend addressed the underlying root of my symptoms instead of most physicians using a one size fits all approach. The physical therapy combined with the CranioSacral and brain therapy had the greatest impact for healing. The brain underwent self-correction one session at a time. If Dr. Townsend says, "I don't recommend that or maybe that isn't a good idea." Her years of experience and training in the field gives her discernment and wisdom unique to each patient's case to provide a true patient centered care. #FunctionalMedicine #HolisticHealth #IntegrativeMedicine #NutritionalMedicine #NaturalHealth #WellnessJourney #RootCauseMedicine #HealNaturally #MindBodyMedicine #FunctionalNutrition #IntegrativeMedicine #HolisticHealth #ComplementaryMedicine #NaturalHealing #WholePersonCare #AlternativeMedicine #WellnessJourney #HealthAndWellness #PhysicalTherapy #Physiotherapy #PTLife #Rehabilitation #MovementIsMedicine #ExerciseTherapy #InjuryRecovery #SportsRehab #Mobility #PainRelief #MassageTherapy #MassageLife #Bodywork #HolisticHealth #Relaxation #TherapeuticMassage #SelfCare #HealingHands #StressRelief #Wellness #ConcussionRecovery #BrainInjuryRecovery

Shawna has helped me elevate pain but also get more movement, flexibility and blood flow into my arms and hands. She also worked on my lungs to help with breathing and helped open up my sinuses due to past sickness. Her office is conveniently located and is a peaceful atmosphere. Very quick to communicate and respond. She doesn't work with with insurance which makes it nice to not have to jump through all the red tape of waiting to get in to get relief. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the management at Grove Spa. My wife and I booked a…read morecouples massage a month and a half to two months in advance, and they called 45 minutes before our appointment to cancel due to a "family emergency" with one of their staff. This is not only highly inconvenient but deeply disrespectful, especially when we were literally walking out the door. This is the second time this has happened to us. My wife experienced the exact same last-minute cancellation a couple of months ago. The pattern is clear: poor planning and dismissive customer service. While their therapists may be skilled, the management appears completely incapable of basic scheduling reliability or common courtesy. As someone with severe service-related PTSD, I had been mentally preparing for weeks to even allow this appointment. The last-minute cancellation hit hard and felt incredibly inconsiderate of our time and well-being. If Grove Spa cannot value their customers' schedules and trust after booking so far ahead, then they clearly don't want our business. We will be taking it elsewhere, and I strongly encourage others to do the same. There are plenty of professional spas in the area that can actually show up when they say they will.
