I have framed a number of items with LA Art Exchange. The folks have an eye for the proper framing and matting. And, they have give me dates when the frames will arrive and painting will be ready, and they are always accurate and perfect. I've been a huge booster of the skilled staff at LA Art Exchange since 1994 and already wrote a 5 star review in 2013. But I wanted to add to that review after losing my home and all my cherished art in the Palisades Fires. Sarah and Olivia showed patience, support--and always great taste--in helping me recreate many images based on photos of the art. Does my newly framed art have resale value, No! But I don't care about that at all relative to my mental health boost seeing my favorite images adorn my walls again. Shout out, too, to the skilled framers we never see. I'm in the process of moving so I wanted a refresh on my framed posters and paintings. Athena and the team at LA Art Exchange surprised me because, unlike the typical neighborhood frame shop, this place does museum-quality work. Seriously, I was blown away by how good my pieces look. They did an amazing floating frame on a painting. My posters are in wooden frames and they could now easily hang in any gallery. Fortunately, they'll be hanging in my new home soon and I can't wait. In transparency, craftsmanship like this doesn't come cheap. The results are worth it, though. These pieces will stay with me for the rest of my life. I had two pieces I entrusted to LA Art Exchange for a significant amount of money. The first was a poster that they framed in a conventional manner; good work, no complaints. The second was a poster that I've had for nearly 40 years that had been museum-mounted. I was talked into a mounting that has been less than successful, warping twice in hot weather and never returning to a completely flat shape, something I was not warned about. My major complaint is that I twice emailed LA Art Exchange (with photos) about this issue and received no response to either email -- a major fail and the reason that I would not recommend them. read more

I live in a small place, so I do not have many framing projects, but I have been using LAAE when needed for over 20 years, way back when they were next to Helen's Cycles. Sarah, Jane, Adam and the whole crew over there are ALL great, but I had a very important and very special print that I was seeking extra consultation on and they recommended Adam for rock 'n' roll memorabilia/framing (although any one of them would've been excellent). The framers here have such a great eye - they are able to make creative suggestions that make your art better and more lovely to look at. This is a framing store frequented by Santa Monica galleries and Hollywood elite. It is on the pricier side, but you're paying for quality. Would I take a $10 poster to get framed here? No. Would I trust anyone else to frame my precious art work or anything of value? Never. I've gotten priceless family art work (for sentimental reasons) framed here with UV-protected glass so t hat I can pass it on. I also got a Venetian mask framed here; my God they do wonders. They do fabulous lucite casing work. You can take your baseballs in, for example. The owners - Stu and Jayne - know their stuff. They will elevate the quality of your art. I promise. Really shocked to find out they pulled a bait and switch on the frame. Bought a Groupon and I went in to pick everything out for two pictures to be framed. Picked out a wood frame and told them I was traveling cross country. They wrapped up the two framed pictures together taped in bubble wrap. I appreciated that until I opened them (after traveling) to find that they switched a plastic frame for the wood one I chose. read more

I had two custom frames made here -- claimed I was getting a discount but with a bit of checking later (after I'd commissioned the job) I realized they were still more expensive than others. Framing was at best adequate - I was asking for two pages from a notebook to be framed, with a large matte -- but they messed up, I asked for it to be centered and one of them was positioned lower in the frame so has always looked off. Too weeks to get it done as well, so couldn't be bothered to deal with them. Agree with the other reviewer aboiut the upsell, try and make it feel like you;re somewhere special but they're seriously average. Have since found Sherman Gallery on Venice, much better, faster, less conceited and way way more reasonable. Would never ever return. read more

Had LA Art exchange frame 40 X 60 and a 16 x 20 prints for us on two separate occasions. Both times our prints were handled with the delicate care that they required. LA Art exchange also suggested we get the museum glass that is anti glare and we are SO happy with it. They were also cool enough to honor a great discount for us that we had got in the mail but had forgotten at home too! Very knowledgable staff, very friendly, great suggestions. We have done all of our framing here for over 15 years and have always been thrilled with the results. Every time I look at the artwork on our walls I am so pleased. They have a gorgeous array of frames from inexpensive to handmade with gold leafing. They can often custom order frames in larger sizes, so what you see on the walls is only the beginning. Recently, we framed a beautiful photographic print in one of the handmade gold leaf frames. The sample frame they had on the wall was too thin, so they called the manufacturer and not only ordered it wider, but also matched a different gold tone from another frame we liked better! Another time, when we framed some prints and were not happy with the results, they worked with us to reframe them at a reduced price to make up for the additional cost.
