Where do I start??? After living in the salt lake valley for almost 7 years I've been on the hunt for delicious authentic Mexican food. I'm sad that I've been living my life without knowing this place existed. Besides their quick and friendly service the place feels like home. Literally every we ate was complete perfection! The hubby ordered menudo, this man puts salsa on everything, for the first time in 15+ years this man said the unthinkable, " I don't want to add salsa and change the favor" *jaw drops immediately. The garnishment for the soup was on point plus the handmade tortillas. Their lengua tacos, oh my gah!!! The flavor definitely showed up! Same for the Gordita. I was on a quest last Saturday night. The details are not relevant right now, except to say that I was looking all over this great valley to find tacos and I didn't want to get out of my car. If ol' Hank Ford could see us now, cruising around the city and practically living in our cars. Getting food without having to step out of our vehicle. Not sure if he'd be happy or horrified, but that's neither here nor there. The point is this: they have a drive-thru here and I took advantage. Since it was a multi-stop, multo-taco night, we only ordered a couple of single tacos. They really do much much more here than just tacos and you should probably try the deeper cuts, but we were on a mission. Adobada and al pastor were the order of this stop, and both were serviceable entries. They actually both had a very similar flavor profile and the pastor were just a bit sweeter. The latter also did not have any pineapple served with it, for those who are really particular about that kind of thing. Of the taco stops that evening, they were the smallest tacos. However, it was served with plenty of cilantro and two salsas, as well as limes ands sliced radish; and it's worth noting that this is the only drive-thru we visited that offered radishes as part of the normal procedure. It was a good stop, and only a small sampling of what they offer so I'd probably go back and hit up that drive-thru again to get a better and wider sampling. read more

Oh, yeah! I found my go-to place for plain ol' simple Mexican food. To me, this is like the better version of all those Beto's, Alberto's, Roberto's, Francisco's, Alejandro's, and taco stands all in one place. I absolutely adore this place because it is very clean and well kept, good ol' tasty food that hits the spot, and great service with a smile. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but something about this restaurant really makes me fond about it and can't wait to go back. The way the owners carry out their business just makes you want to eat their food. They were really earnest and I felt it. I was stunned by their menu and I loved at how they had pictures of all of their dishes. They also have a good variety of hot sauces and an à la carte with different sauces and vinegared-vegetables for your condiments. Dear, sweet, Mother of Ceviche!!!! I have now found a place to get my lime and seafood on. Thanks to fellow Yelpers we discovered this little delight in the barren restaurant wasteland that seems to be the WVC. The ceviche was some of the best basic ceviche I've had in Utah. We also ordered the barbacoa and it melted in your mouth. The fajitas were fantastic and something I will order next time we go. The service was outstanding and the waitress was very attentive and proud of the food. She brought samples of the barbacoa before we ordered and made sure our cups never runneth empty. A true gem in West Valley. Next visit will include the ordering of the Siete Mares soup and the mole. Watch for another (hopefully) great review. read more

This place is a funny little free standing building that screams Mexican food. Our waitress was really nice and gave us some good recommendations. We tried their horchata, which is definitely from a mix, but it was still good, little on the pricey side though. I really liked their chips and salsa, the chips were warm and extra crispy, we definitely ate two baskets of them. I had a variety of tacos, each 1.50, chicken, carne asada, barbacoa, and al pastor. The pastor was by far the best one, then the chicken, barbacoa, and carne asada last. Usually I love carne asada, but the meat here was super gristly and bland. They had a good salsa bar with limes, cilantro, salsas, radish; and everything was very fresh. My husband got a carne asada burrito and it wasn't the best either. I'll be honest, I don't get out to the WVC much, so eating here was a little bit of an adventure. They're located in a brightly colored building on the north side of 3500 S in West Valley. Its well past the mall but if you're keeping an eye out it shouldn't be hard to find it. They have a vast menu. It was 4 full pages of dishes all with pictures. Its not your average gringo Mexican food so the pictures helped quite a bit on figuring out what to get. Making sure they could feed you for three meals a day, they had a breakfast section on the menu as well as the lunch/dinner type food. I went for a safe favorite my first time around and picked the Chile Relleno & Enchilada platter. Because I heard from Ryan K about their carnitas, I picked up 2 of their tacos too. The food was really excellent. It was authentic, flavorful, fresh and just a pleasure to eat. The pulled chicken in the enchilada was moist and shredded well. The chile relleno was filled with cheese and was fried fresh, not pulled from a hot bin. Often an after thought at many places, the rice was cooked and had a great flavor and the refried beans were just awesome. It seems like so many places here avoid refried beans but when they're done right they're a great addition to the plate. The carnitas tacos were a great way to round off the meal. Like the chicken, the carnitas was moist and shredded just right. It had good flavor without the crutch of over seasoning the pork. It was served on a fresh warm corn tortilla. I hit the salsa and condiment bar for some lettuce, sauces and salsa to top it with. And the best part of it all, I ate like a king and it totaled to be less than 14 dollars. You really can't complain about an authentic flavorful Mexican meal that is affordable too. So if you're looking for an adventure out in WVC, make sure to stop by La Autenica for some Mexican deliciousness. read more

The entire menu is completely in Spanish (don't worry--they have lots of pictures as well), and our server spoke a little bit of English. I heard good things about the carnitas, so I went with the carnitas burrito, which came with a side of rice and refried beans. The carnitas burrito was super tasty, and smothered in a really nice green sauce. The refried beans were good, and the rice was spot-on. When you go, make sure you get some of the green guacamole crema sauce. It was the perfect addition to the burrito. We also had the chile relleno, and again, it was really good. They seem to specialize in seafood, as about half their menu was seafood items. The name says it well...Authentic. This is a true Mexican restaurant, family style. I went here based on the reviews on Yelp, and they were right! I will warn you, it is hard to decide. There is a photo board menu, and what you see is really what you get (unlike McD's fake photo food!). I had the Carne y papas with warm flour tortillas and green sauce. Wonderfully spicy meat that went well with the tart peppery green sauce. Washed it all down with a Pacifico cerveza. I felt like I was at the Mexico border, not in Utah. Couple things that were not mentioned but would have been nice to know-especially being a parent: Small inside-less than 10 tables none that could comfortably seat parties larger than 4. No highchairs or booster seats. Infant seats do not fit on these booths. You have a server which means you tip. I don't mind tipping but sometimes I choose my places based on whether I have to fork over extra cash for a tip. Otherwise this place was authentic, clean, friendly staff, huge menu with pictures, free chips and yummy salsa, prompt service with attentive staff. Definitely my new go to place! read more

For the love of god someone take this barbacoa away from me before I kill again. Asada This is not Fiesta Ole Mexican food or even that shit hole Cafe Rio Mexican food. This is Mexican food you would find in Mexico where they call the Mexican food.......food. This is the most authentic Mexican I have tasted around. They do not try to Americanize it to make it more palatable for white folk. The service is friendly and eager to help. I got the barbacoa and damn near ate through the plate trying to get all of that tender fall apart goodness. My first wife ordered the Carne Asada and although it looks thin and tough it was flavorful and awesome. They give you the choice of either corn or flour tortillas with your meal. I prefer the corn while my first wife prefers the flour, both are tasty and conjure up memories of being on the beach in old Mexico eating these same dishes and falling in love listening to sea kiss the sand while we dined. They said no that they were closing and tomorrow there was nothing they could do.
