Poor customer service. I have been a client of this place for several years. I ordered the molcajete and spend over $55.00. I asked for complimentary salsa and she wanted to charge me as I only asked for two small ones. I asked her what is the difference when you eat there as you are provided with chips and salsa and she said because I am not eating there! Here I am being a loyal customer giving them business and that is how she replies. This is so outrageous!!!!! And yet they have signs that say they treat you like family! Please!!!!!! This location was so bad. The servers were not even welcoming, not once did they come and see if we needed anything. It was like she hated her job. Second the food was horrible. I ordered the fried fish (mojarra frita) that fish had no taste. My husband usually loves food but this one was horrible. We will never come here again! I am not sure why the ratings here are relatively low. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and every time we leave satisfied with our order. I have tried many dishes but some of my favorites are the molcajete which reminds me of hotpot, the chicken sopes, and the carne asada plate. They make handmade tortillas and provide chips and tasty salsa for free as appetizer, and those are unlimited along with the tortillas. Moving onto the drinks, I love their fresh Aguas Fresca (not too sweet) and they also offer fresh squeezed orange juice. The service is always great. Everyone is kind and attentive. The wait can be long on Saturday and Sunday mornings as families tend to come during that time, but any other time there is not much of a wait. Ambiance is roaring with lots of conversations and a vibrant atmosphere. I enjoy it because it reminds me of a family party. Genuinely it feels like family whenever we visit. It's an older restaurant that could use an upgrade. Decor is outdated but the place is clean. Family vibe and super friendly staff. We were seated immediately and a high chair was already setup without us asking. Came in for brunch and we noticed the handmade tortillas. They were amazing. Hot,fresh and ready. I ordered eggs abuelita. Very delicious and spicy. I loved their rice too. Not dry with a hint of chicken broth. Also ordered a carne asada burrito. Good quality meat cooked to perfection. And the smell was very potent of a chemical used for mopping, not pinesol either. Menus were bright over as was chips and salsa. That was ok. Menu very limited it seemed. No guacamole... at a Mexican restaurant?!? Two types of burritos and we'll we figured let's give it a shot. A taquito plate and a fried quesadilla. Hmmmm rice and beans were horrible! Quesadilla was meh. And we'll we ate some and covered the rest with a napkin, paid our bill and vowed to sadly never go back there again. When we went out to the parking lot, we hadn't noticed, but piles of empty boxes and trash bags all over the floor. Yet they have a big trash bin. Who knows and really who cares. Tolerable and didn't get me sick. Got the carne asada plate and ordered it medium rare. It was nothing to gawk about. Beans were eh but the rice was good. Salad was just large lettuce pieces and sliced tomatoes with red onion. Not a fan. Service - Very friendly and helpful. Attentive and very courteous. Parking - they have a back lot so there should be parking, but I can see it getting annoying if it ever got REALLY REALLY busy. Busy, busy, on a Sunday morning! However, the saving grace was excellent service we received. We were lucky to be seated right away and our orders arrived quickly. Our coffee cups were always kept full and we were waited on quite well. Yes, my eyebrows raised when I saw the receipt. A bit high priced, but our family was satisfied with the service and the food so I have no complaints. The veggie omelette is quite good and tasty. Recommended! So I went yesterday for breakfast, as soon as we sat down I started to feel itchy bites on both feet and my right leg. I thought maybe something bit me on the way in. Well the longer I sat there the more itchy and burning sensation I felt on my right leg, I get up and see multiple bites, are they flees, bed bugs, mosquitos? IDK! We moved tables and the waitress asked why we moved, I told her I just got bit like 10 times all over my leg and feet, her response was oh It's the mosquitos that come in at night when people open the door and they hide under the tables, but I'll tell the boss right now, what does the boss do? He comes out with a can of Raid and starts spraying under the tables while we and other customers were there eating! This is by far my favorite La Barca location. Staff is always friendly and greets you as soon as you walk in the door. Food is delicious and is always brought out very fast. Sometimes when you go for dinner they give you a complimentary soup on top of the already complimentary chips and salsa ! Love going to this place. Nothing here has every disappointed me. growing up i've always loved going here & to this day i still recommend this place because the quality of food is sooo delicious & you get enough to get you full! This place is usually busy especially on weekends from breakfast-lunch time so keep in mind service might not always be perfect considering how many other customers there are but for me that's not a huge problem. My mom & i came for brunch time today & even though it was super busy we got checked on about two times after eating which was all we needed. My mom got a molcajete & i got the sopes on top of that they're have seasonal agua frescas which right now it's a strawberry lemonade & it was really refreshing! This place has some pretty good enchiladas. I placed my order over the phone and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Sure enough, it was ready and smelled so good. The person who took my order was very friendly and so were the staff when I arrived. I was in and out of there in less than 5 minutes. The food was packed with care and they included some chips with salsa which pair well with any mexican dish. The chips were crisp and had just the right amount of salt. Yum! The salsa was flavorful and packed a slight punch. Now onto my favorite part of my meal. The cheese enchiladas. Oh boy! The green sauce was a little spicy but the flavor tantalized my taste buds. They had lots of cheese and was absolutely delicious! The rice and beans were also very good especially when you mix the two together. The portions are generous and don't let down. Give it a try. Came for dinner this week right around 7:40pm. I think they closed at 8pm but hours posted said 9pm. I felt a little rushed another server who asked if I was finished, offered a to go box and asked for our card to pay. It was not our server. Our server was attentive and a nice woman. The restaurant is cute and quaint, very old school looking and cozy. The food was mediocre. The rice was delicious and had a good taste and nice texture. It wasn't dry. I wasn't a fan of my Chile relleno as the egg batter was a bit hard and had too much egg. The cheese used did not melt either and I enjoy them more with melted cheese. The taquito was decent.
