The food was pretty good, I will say this, the pancakes are a little sweet but overall they are good. The lady that was taking our order was very nice, excellent service. The place is a nice, little cozy restaurant. I recommend going here.

If you are looking for really good Mexican food in PHX look no further and come here! The area might seem a bit sketch but there is nothing to worry about. We had lunch here on a Sunday and the wait was about 45 minutes. We were told to sign in and provide them our phone number so they could call us when ready. They do no let you wait inside due to it being small so you are told to either wait outside or in you car. Once ready, they called us and we were seated. We were a party of 8 so they sat us in a big table. The server came over a few minutes after and took our orders, we ordered: 6 agua de jamaica - DELICUOUS AND HYDRATING 1 coke 1 Dr pepper 1 Sope Plate - 3 thick corn patties stuffed with beans and shredded beef. Topped with tomato sauce, lettuce, and ranchero cheese. 2 Molcajetes de Mariscos - grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, tilapia, abulon, octopus, crab, grilled cactus, grilled onions, and queso fresco with corn tortillas 1 Molcajete A La Mexicana - steak, grilled chicken, homemade chorizo, queso fresco, grilled cactus, and grilled onions with flour tortillas 1 Menudo 2 Fajitas Supreme Plates - Steak, chicken, and shrimp sautéed with fresh bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Served on a sizzling skillet with rice beans, guacamole and sour cream. 2 Carne Asada Plates - Top sirloin steak served with grilled onions, French fries, salad, rice and beans. EVERYTHING was delicious. The food had so much flavor and it was all made fresh! The menudo was soooo good. It was served hot and had plenty of hominy and meat. The carne asada was nicely grilled and had no fatty pieces. It was easy to eat, thin, and had no chewy pieces. The sopes were loaded with all the good and they definitely did not skimp on the meat. These babies were topped off. The shredded beef was juicy and flavorful. Service was great and we were checked up on several times. I will be back! Total with tip: $335

Great stop. I was in the area to meet someone for lunch and we decided to check this place out. I'd been nearby in the past for coffee (same lot) so easy to find. The parking lot is fairly small, but at 11 on a Tuesday it wasn't too hard to find a spot. The front door faces McDowell where you walk into a small hostess station. We waited to good few minutes before being greeted, but were then taken right to a table with some yummy chips and salsa in no time. Our drink order was taken while we looked over the menu. Sodas are canned and they brought us cups of ice. There were so many good things to choose from but we settled on carnitas and chile verde both with their homemade corn tortillas which were phenomenal. I loved that they didn't skimp on how many like ALOT of other Mexican restaurants. All of our food was so good. My chile verde was full of flavor and I left so full. Service was great our entire visit and we even enjoyed their live music while we ate. Don't let the outside building fool you. It is quite old looking, bars on the window, but it's worth the stop. We'll definitely be back when in the area.

We have been coming to this place for years now. If you want true authentic mexican food, this is the place for you. Great service, request Teresa if she is working. Always takes such great care of us. The place is clean, music in the background. My go to is the mexican molcajete. Has steak, chicken, cheese, chorizo and cactus. It is served in a spicy salsa.

Food was good . I got the pozole and my Inlaw's got two plates that my mother Inlaw like and Father in-law didn't like it . Service was super slow even tho it wasn't busy. Drinks came out 5-10 after the food came out and when the food came out it took like 3 or 4 trips to bring our all the sides with the main plate and the girl helping with the food was extremely rude . I asked her about our drinks and she said in not your server so I told her to call my server. The surround was dated but hey for what it is it was okay .

We tried the two most popular items and our expectations were exceeded. This was the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. We walked in and the restaurant was almost full of locals- to us this was a good sign that we were in the right place. The Birria was hot and fresh, falling off of the bone. So tender and flavorful. The Molcajete was piping hot with a good amount of spice. We got a mix of flour and corn tortillas- everything was fresh and made in house. We asked for two dozen tortillas to take home with us (24 tortillas came out to $9.00). Everyone at the restaurant (servers and other patrons) were pleasant and had no problem answering our questions. I'm excited to bring my family back here to try it.

You can taste the quality in each ingredient and I appreciate that. My husband and I agreed that the Spanish octopus was our favorite dish. It was the best octopus I've had in a while, the char flavor and slight crisp was amazing. We enjoyed the creamy sauce, artichokes, and other veggies that came with this dish. The cauliflower and golden beets were incredible too. The chef told us that the Japanese sweet potato was one of the popular dishes, but out of everything we ordered, it was surprisingly my least favorite. It was still good but everything else tasted better to me. Pa'La is a bit pricey but the quality makes up for it. I would recommend this place for people who are visiting or for a date night!

It was very cool of the Tap Room (next door) to allow me to eat my lunch on their picnic tables outside without ordering a drink. I came after lunch so it wasn't busy. I won't sugar coat it, Nelson's is pricey. The roll was $34. However they have fish that you can't find elsewhere. The ahi tuna was beautiful but I already set my mind to the salmon. So, after searching up and down, I stumbled upon Nelson's. I came by for an early lunch. This location is a very small place, really only big enough for a few fridges full of meats/fish, as well as the counter itself. I came in, and I took a little bit to decide what I wanted from the menu, and settled on a shrimp salad sandwich and a half pound of salmon poke. Before, during, and after the ordering process, I feel like the gentleman behind the counter was a little cold and not wanting to talk to me much. It seemed like I was inconveniencing him, so I felt bad about that. For that reason, I didn't really try to make conversation. I hope his day got better! I took the food togo, of course, and I ate the shrimp sandwich first. The seasoning was really great, and the salad was really well balanced. Mayo, onions, chives, cabbage: everything was well-represented and nothing was overbearingly seasoned. Yummy sandwich! The bread was a little drier than I would have liked, but very minor. It also came with Zapp's chips! Always a plus in my book. The poke? Delicious. I get the price. It's expensive, but it's the middle of a desert in 115 degree weather. Great representation of salmon poke, and super well seasoned with pacific island flavors that are certainly reminiscent of the stuff you'd get on the island! If you're looking for a wonderful seafood experience, I'm confident you'd like Nelson's in Phoenix.

The Spanish octopus was alright. The clam chowder was flavorful and not too salty; definitely made it into the top three clam chowders I've had in the state so far. For our main entrees we ordered the New England lobster roll and the gemelli pasta with shrimp and scallops. The lobster roll was flavorful but felt like it was missing something. The gemelli pasta tasted a bit bland for my taste buds, but the family member I went with really enjoyed it. Since we always have room for dessert, we ordered a crème brulee to share. The crème brulee was nice and not overly sweet. Overall, service was professional, knowledgeable, attentive, and the food arrived in a timely manner. The restaurant itself is quite spacious with nautical décor throughout which gives off a comfortable and relaxing vibe.

This was served cold, like a salad with a light dressing and some shavings of Parmesan on top. Amazing! My wife doesn't like seafood, so she had a pasta dish. Buck & Rider was kind enough to replace the shrimp with chicken for her. We split a banana cream pie for dessert. Great graham cookie base, banana cream and then whipped cream on top. Only downside is that…read morefor some reason Apple maps was not accurate to finding the location and parking was a challenge as it is right on Roosevelt Row. However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!

To start, the menu is a bit puzzling. It's kind of like a handful of Asian-inspired dishes, a handful of Mexican/South American, and a handful of French or New American. But there's not enough of each to chart a course through one type of cuisine. So, basically you're gonna have a cultural melange meal. Hamachi crudo was really good and fairly unique. The halibut was excellently prepared but not particularly innovative in any way I could tell. Zucchini had goat cheese, which wasn't immediately clear from the description, so I didn't enjoy the rude surprise I got when I took my first bite, and didn't eat anymore, as I really despise the stuff. So that was a waste. Not a dig on the dish, just a personal thing I wish I had more notice of. There were other issues though. The wine list was exceptionally small, They were out of the bread, which is supposedly a must-try. And then we were going to get the steak but the folks next to us advised against it, showing their cut that had zero fat. They said it was leather. On that point, the tables are SUPER CLOSE. Like, a couple inches apart. You hear everything and almost can't avoid getting entwined into others' conversation. We liked the people we were next to, but be aware that it's an unintentionally awkward communal experience that's not well-suited to a date night. The service was pretty good, they put out a nice printed greeting with the reservation name, and give you a sparkling wine toast. But considering the price and overall experience we had, I'd pass and not come back.

Third Time's the Charm? This Burrito Finally Won Me Over…read more My relationship with this place has been a bit of a roller coaster. Visit #1 earned a solid 4 stars. Visit #2 dropped to 2 stars because the fish was piled almost entirely on one side of the burrito, making every bite inconsistent and pretty disappointing. But I'm a firm believer in giving good restaurants another chance, so I came back for round three. I'm glad I did. This visit was a perfect 5-star experience. The burrito was assembled exactly the way it should be: every ingredient evenly distributed, every bite balanced, and everything fresh and flavorful. That's the difference between a good burrito and a great one. I also asked for an extra salsa for the chips, and the staff happily gave me one with a smile. One salsa is perfect for the burrito, but I definitely needed a second for the chips, so I appreciated the excellent customer service. The restaurant continues to impress with how clean it is, the convenient location, and the incredibly fresh fish. Those have been consistent on every visit. The only downside is the price. My meal (burrito, chips, drink, and tip) came to about $30, so it's definitely not cheap. That said, I don't mind paying for high-quality food, and this time it absolutely delivered. The chips were excellent, too. My only suggestion would be expanding the drink selection. They only had one Jarritos flavor available for soda during my visit. It was good, but a few more options would be nice. For now, I'm averaging my three visits to 4 stars, and I'm looking forward to seeing if they can keep this level of consistency. And finally... kudos to the chef who built this burrito. It was perfectly balanced from the first bite to the last. That's exactly what I was hoping for, and will be back again in the future and hopefully with another experience like this so I can push it to 5 stars!

My friend ordered a burrito and I wanted some lite, I picked the mini seafood tower, with all sauces and avocado on the side. Server brought out complementary seafood tostadas. Food quality, service, ambience, all top-notch, highly recommend!

Insert the most fire drinks we've scene in a while and they all can be made NonAlcoholic! Needless to say we had no clue what we were getting ourselves into and we were glad cus the prices were high but the drinks were large and delicious! All of my three daughters and my wife felt so cool with their drinks and loved every sip. Our friends said their food was good and one of which got the coolest pineapple drinks we'd ever scene! Along with amazing chips and salsa we are very excited to come back and get some food as this is a stellar top notch seafood place with amazing drinks people and an all around experience
