This was the most unusual but delightful place we ate en route to Palm Harbor from West Palm Beach. A mint green building with cars parked everywhere. Once inside, we thought it was just a grocery store and after walking through the aisles of food, we found the restaurant. Look through the typical Mexican menu, where we decided on carne asada burrito for hubby and pollo for me and one drink. Great Caesar's ghost! Each burrito could have fed four people easily! I ordered- leguna tacos, pork tamales, and meundo. Leguna tacos could a tad more seasoning but salsa verde made up for that. The pork tamales were good but it was first time I had salsa verde for pork. Nice touch. The disappointing item was the meundo. The style of the meundo was way my ex cook it no hominy. Best hidden Mexican restaurant I've ever encountered. I've been to many Mexican border towns had authentic local cuisine. I've eaten Mexican food in about 22 states and this little hole in the wall is the best I've ever had. The chimichanga is second to none! Don't become discouraged by the look. It's the food that counts. The have soups, tacos, burritos, tortas (which is Mexican for sandwiches) and three "plates". Prices are low. The kitchen is not much to look at. I am certain the Health Department would take issue with this place. And these are precisely the kind of place I love to eat. The pork burrito was outstanding. It was huge. It was delicious. I ordered pork, and it had pork and rice and beans and lettuce and sour cream. It was man sized. And the flavor was outstanding. This place is really authentic. If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, limited as the menu is, you came to the right place. The burrito is not sitting well in my stomach right now. The right burrito will do that to you. Stopped by La Botanica today for the first time and, yes, believe the hype, it really is that good. I had the breakfast burrito (I'm vegetarian) and a cup of the horchata. You can taste how homemade everything is, nothing like burritos you get elsewhere. Plus, the staff making it, I believe it's a family joint, are super nice and friendly. While you're waiting for your food the store has many aisles of Mexican ingredients to check out as well as an aisle of badass western boots. We ordered a chicken and steak burritos, beef cheek and beef tongue tacos and their homemade guacamole with fried flour tortilla chips. Everything was very good and fresh.
