Well ... we order some steak ranchero and steak in green sauce , lady tell us after we order 2 min later that they don't have steak anymore ( really ? Bad inventory ) so then we order the shrimp fajitas and breaded shrimp , the fajitas there were nice , but the breaded shrimp totally disappointed, was brought with pieces of jalapeños breaded , was not that good , place look a little dirty inside and service was not that great ... Moved to Winter Haven a couple months ago and have been looking for a place to eat tacos! Found this Mexican restaurant and boy, are we happy! My husband got the molcajete that has everything in it...chorizo, cactus, chicken, shrimp and steak with tortillas and beans and rice on the side. I got the Carne asada tacos with rice and beans on the side. When we first sat down we were promptly brought chips and salsa. Chips were fresh and warm and the salsa as to be expected. When our main dishes came out, our first bites had us dancing in our seats. The flavor of the meats are so good. Everything tender and tasty in their natural juices. I don't know what kind of salsa they gave with the tacos but it was on point. A little on the spicey side but delicious! It was such a good portion of serving we both had boxes for leftover take homes. There were only 2 servers while we were there but they were both very nice and attentive. The restaurant seating feels a little close and crowded and the restaurant itself is a bit outdated but don't let that deter you. The food is spot on and I am confident to say that this may soon become a local favorite of ours. read more

The outside sign is missing letters, happy hour light is on by drive thru window(which they have no happy hour), half the material on booths are old n NEED REPLACING, derive n food awful!!! We ordered enchilada combo it was ok..ordered burrito:tamale combo had sauce on it n didn't know because not stated in menu sent back to have remade n something besides burrito n tamale on plate!!! Other item on plate was meat half rolled on corn tortilla with cheese. Later the tamale showed up!!! The meat inside of burrito n other item was boring nothing exciting... Employees standing around talking n not checking on customers The place needs updating food better n better staff!!! Won't be back I can make better Mexican food at home n save my money!!! read more

This place has the best Mexican food in the county perhaps the entire US of A! The white cheese dip with chips is the bomb! The staff is attentive and professional! The food is excellent and very flavorful! Don't listen to these other stupid reviews yes the building is not great but guess what I'm not eating the damn building! I can't say anything about the food because we opted for drinks after the gym. Ha:) we munched on chips and salsa with queso and took advantage of the 2 for 1 margs that were only $6. We had two different waiters (shift change), and both were really nice. I sucked my first drink down so quickly that the waiter jokingly picked my glass up and even looked at the bottom, to which I sheepishly said, "it's..all gone." Quiet atmosphere, I think it was about 6 when we went. Masks are mandatory until you are seated, just FYI. Why's this place such a secret? Great food and amazing service, with affordable prices. Nothing fancy, but I found this restaurant to be excellent! I only ate 1/4 of my burrito and my partner had the flutas, which were delicious. I wish the had carnitas, though. We have a new neighborhood restaurant when we have a yen for Mexican food. Way better than that (shall remain nameless) overpriced place on Cypress Gardens Blvd that used to be our favorite. read more

I grew up in Chicago and had some of the best Mexican restaurants in walking distance in every direction! Even when we moved to Indiana we had better choices of places to eat than here in Florida. I've eaten here before but I guess I just never reviewed Chile Verde. I remembered it being pretty goodIt's located the movie theater in Winter Haven. Honestly, the outside looks horrible but the inside is your typical Mexican cowboy decor. I ordered the lunch #8, with a burrito and taco with beans. My husband ordered the. #7, fried burrito with rice and beans. The food is hot and delicious. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering but we also walked in the minute they opened. We started with the bean dip, creamy refried beans covered with queso. It adds a depth to the Queso that is sooo good! You have to try it. The lunch specials are $8-$12, and you get plenty of food. Ignore the run down look on the outside because this is a surprising hidden gem on the inside. read more

Let start by saying that the salsa is watery. You know from the start if the salsa isn't good you are in trouble. The stuffed Chili was water logged ( previously frozen) the meat in the burrito was salty. The only saving grace was the Rice and beans. The restaurant appears to be an old Wendy's or some fast food restaurant. The building is in need of repairs, and the interior definitely could use a makeover. There was one single man working the front, I assume he's the owner but did not ask. He brought us a small bowl of salsa and a small basket of chips before taking our order. We ordered queso dip appetizer and 2 lunch specials. He brought the queso dip without chips (our small basket served with the salsa was empty). We asked for more chips and he brought another small basket. We ended up asking for more chips to finish our queso, only to find an extra charge of $3.00 on our bill for extra chips. I can maybe understand if we didn't order a dip appetizer and simply plowed through free chips and salsa, but c'mon! We did question the bill the the server/owner(?) who refused to change it. Went here based on Yelp reviews, pulled into the parking lot about 5:30 pm No one else was in the place, that gave us second thoughts but what the heck. They said sit anyplace, some of the booth seats were torn but we found a place to sit. The waiter came right away ordered drinks, great wine pour and I got a big beer in a ice mug .my wife ordered chicken fajita and I ordered Carne asada tacos, everything was very good, the service was great and the price was right. I have eaten here three times with friends. It's quite good and the lunch portions are very nicely sized. I have had, and enjoyed, chicken enchiladas and beef tacos, both were quite good. I ordered a chile relleno, it was okay, but I've had better. It's a good place for lunch, good prices. If I could give a no star review I would, they were exceptionally rude when we walked in, the woman who brought us chips and salsa seemed annoyed when asked for queso with our chips and we had to ask her multiple times to bring it, I also asked for hot sauce and she brought a salsa instead of Cholula or Tabasco sauce (I asked for those not just hot sauce since she barely spoke English) when she brought us our drinks 2 minutes after sitting down she wanted to take our orders and since we had barely looked at the menu we asked if we could have a minute or two to look at the menu and she seemed annoyed that we didn't know what we wanted, she then took almost 10 minutes to come back and we were the only ones in the restaurant. When we didn't leave a tip because the service was so bad they took it upon themselves to write a tip in and when we confronted them they said "If you don't tip, we won't serve you again" even though they write their own tip if you write "0" on the check and write the total as it was with no tip. I wouldn't be mad, but $60 for two people to eat and to get crap service is just absurd and then to have them add an extra $5 for a tip she didn't even deserve! read more
