I'm not sure if we just lucked out on our orders or if some of the reviews here are fake, because our family of 5 enjoyed everything we ordered, and the service was fantastic.. It was very difficult to find outdoor seating in any restaurants in Vail and we aren't comfortable dining inside yet, so we were happy to find this place. We were the only ones on the patio on a snowy day, and the staff was amazing. Like someone else said, they were attentive but not annoying. The bread and breadsticks were fresh and delicious. Our server was even kind enough to deliver on our random request for honey. The guest chef checked in on us to see if we enjoyed the special dish he made that mixed Italian pasta with Spanish flavors. Their prices weren't as bad as the other restaurants we checked out. Stopped in here for a late lunch after hiking, and had a wonderful time! Drinks are expensive but totally quality. We each had a panini, and I can highly recommend them. Also the bruschetta to start, which was very nicely balanced. Service, as others have said, is attentive without being aggressive. This entree doesn't come with side or roasted vegetables or anything.. Just very few pieces of gnocchi.. Also went with a group of 16 friends and based on reviews we thought this place is usually busy and made reservations well in advance. They charge $40 per person if you cancel your reservation just FYI... When we came for dinner, this place was completely empty so technically didn't needed a reservation.. I had such high hopes for this cute restaurant with a great patio on a gorgeous summer day in Vail but... Let me start with a positive. The service was decent and what you should expect from any restaurant. And the sangria was delicious! I highly recommend the sangria. Now for the rest of the story... we asked to be seated on the patio and there was availability but the chairs were so small and uncomfortable that I couldn't sit in a patio chair. Please create a more inclusive environment so all of your patrons can partake of the beautiful patio. The food was not great and over priced. I expect expense food in Vail because well, it's Vail. However my husband ordered a roast beef sandwich and it was nearly $20. For just a sandwich! And it wasn't anything spectacular. And he asked for the tomatoes and onions to be left off and to add mayo. Nope, none of that happened. I ordered the Italian Cubano and it was a decent sandwich to begin with but it was quickly so wet and soggy that I didn't finish it. Our daughter and her friend ordered a Caesar salad and a pepperoni pizza. They both said it was ok. All in all, I hoped for a better experience and definitely better food. Stopped for a simple one drink and gone, but service was terrible, mainly in the beginning. It was early in the day and there was only one table so far. But it was ridiculous what it took to get the drinks. Even after drinks brought we had to go get our own cocktail napkin. Kinda too many cooks in the place scenario. La Bottega is a quaint little dining establishment located at the end of Meadow Drive in Vail Village boasting North Italian cuisine. The primo seats are the ones located around the open kitchen where you can actually watch the chefs prepare the meals as you order them. The bruschetta, pasta, and wine itself are rather standard to what you would customarily find at any number of Italian restaurants cut from a similar cloth. While the food might not be particularly remarkable, what sets La Bottega apart is its layout which includes a full bar, the open kitchen, like I mentioned, and a vast outdoor patio perfect for people watching or just soaking up the mountain air. The pizza was good, but not spectacular. The penne was somewhat pedestrian, got the job done but didn't wow us. The biggest disappointment was the truffle oil gnocchi. As pictured, there wasn't a whole lot to it. Sparse in volume and heavy on butter. Service was spotty; bus boy came over about ten minutes after I get my salad to offer me fresh ground pepper. This is Stephen Virion - the owner of La Bottega. I made a dinner reservation for 5 o'clock on September 15, 2020. We went inside the restaurant and it was mediocre in appearance and cleanliness. Our waiter brought stale bread. We ordered dinner. While we were sitting there having our salads, Laura noticed that the chef in the kitchen making the pizza had his mask below his chin. She pulled our waiter to a private area and said - your chef has his mask down below his chin, can you please ask him to pull it up. I went to the ladies room and when I came back Laura was at the hostess stand and the waiter and she were talking . Laura said look I will pay for what we ate but I am not going to pay for what we didn't eat because for the second time I looked in and your Chef had his mask down below his chin while he was making pizza which was what I ordered for dinner. When she saw the mask below the chef's chin for the second time, Laura stood up and said that's enough! A short baldheaded Hispanic man said "ah oh!" The drunken owner sat at the bar and said to Laura "you're coughing on me" and Laura said I'm not coughing on you. I'm talking to the waiter. She was over 8 feet away from him. When Laura went out to pay the bill, Stephen Virion said "is that the woman" and the waiter nodded his head. At the time I did not know that that man was the owner and actually he started to really scare me and I said you know what I'm going to call the police he said yeah go ahead call the police because he didn't think anything would ever happen if I called the police. And so we paid and we left and as we left he yelled out to us " just go suck some more dick's" I already have a call into OSHA and i will be filing further complaints , but if you value your health and like good food and service - do not eat here read more

I've eaten at La Bottega a number of times and it is probably my favorite restaurant in Vail. I love their thin crust pizzas which are baked in a wood-fired oven as well as their Spaghetti and Meatballs, Ravioli and the Truffle Gnocchi. If you want something not so carb-heavy, the Cedar Planked Salmon is always excellent as is the Ahi Tuna Alla Puttanesca. Another plus about La Bottega is that you can eat here for a reasonable price if you stick to the pizzas and don't go crazy on alcohol. Last tip: if you are sensitive to noise, when making a reservation (essential) ask that you NOT be seated in the room with windows which faces the intersection (the hostess will know what you mean). Due all the glass and wood, it can be deafeningly loud in there, especially with a lively party at the 8-person table. When there's only the two of us for dinner, I enjoy sitting at one of the high tables in the room with the open plan pizza oven. Last of all, in the summer, they also have tables on the patio. read more

Great atmosphere but a tad bit overpriced for the quality of food. We started off with a bottle of Skyside Cabernet Sauvignon which was delicious! I ordered the Milk Fed Veal Scaloppine Marsala with wild mushroom cream sauce over fettuccine which was tasty but again a bit overvalued as far as pricing goes. My friends ordered the Veal Chop Breaded "Milanese," Lobster Ravioli, Penne "All'arrabbiata," and a few Josephine salads. Everyone's reaction was somewhat the same as mine. As much as is pains me to give this place 1 star because we have been going there for many years, I must say I'm very upset with them. We made our reservation a month out from our annual ski trip and could only get a 5pm reservation. Dreaming of my favorite Carbonara dish we finished our ski day early and skipped our daily Red Lion visit, got all dressed up l, paid for a Uber XL and headed to the restaurant. When we arrived we found the doors shuttered and a note on the door that the restaurant was CLOSED due to a flood. Which is all fine except they could not afford their patrons a courtesy call or email to let their reservations know they were closed! VERY DISAPPOINTING! It had no flavor other than salt and I felt like there there was no care or thought put into this dish. This is a perfect example of location driving demand, because the food was mediocre at best. the bruschetta was about the only item we, as a party of 9, ordered that was decent. The lobster ravioli was a puree filling versus actual lobster chunks, and had almost no flavor. These price points are like going to a them park, but if your expecting to be under-whelmed, this place will get you there. Extremely okay food, but after reading reviews I wasn't expecting much; it about met my expectations. They gave these crispy bread sticks that was pretty much dry crunch. We asked for sliced bread and they gave us a cheese-topped loaf, was okay but a little dense and cake-like. Olive oil for dipping improved it though. We started with the arugula salad with pine nuts and pancetta, the greens and Parmesan were tasty, but the pancetta tasted extremely old/stale. Lobster ravioli was probably my favorite thing. Pasta was cooked decently, though the texture of the lobster was also not super fresh but it was light and good with fresh cracked pepper and cheese on top. We had reservations, when we got there a little early, the Maitre'd (I'm guessing the owner) almost chided us for being early then told us to wait 10 min. After we waited, and our reservation time had come, he had nothing to say. Kept telling me that he had no tables. He was busy helping a couple who "swore they had reservations but couldn't prove it." Eventually we got a table in a back corner where it was difficult for a party of four to even sit but he was rude telling us that's all he had, slammed the menus on the table and walked away. . Because my family really wanted to try some of their dishes, we stayed. The service is very slow primarily because they're so busy. The waiter was nice. The Food and drinks were good. We had the bruschetta, truffle Gnocchi, fettuccine putanesca and pizza. Look, I completely understand a busy night but a smile, patience and customer service goes a long way and I think the owner needs to learn this. If you want good food then Definitely try this place but don't expect high customer service. The owner doesn't need to be nice since they're busy regardless. When asking what types of pasta sauce were available, we felt like we were silently being judged. He grabbed a sauce menu and nearly THREW IT once again!!! The food was ok. I have no complaints about my meal at La Bottega. I had a beet salad with anchovies and it was pretty good, maybe just a tad heavy on the dressing The farmers vegetable soups was delicious. My wife said that it was one of the best soups she ever had. Her entree was a different story, though. She ordered lemon sole with a lemon caper sauce (NOTE: lemon sole is only a type of fish, has nothing to do with the yellow fruit). After one bite of the fish, my wife's whole face puckered, she said that there was so much lemon on the fish that it was inedible. She was so hungry though, that she ate all the mashed potatoes. When she finally got the chance to tell the waitress that the fish was too lemony to eat, the waitress said that she would tell the chef. When we got our check, the fish was on the bill. That's just bad business. If you're customer tells you that her dinner is inedible, you offer to bring her something else or, at the very least, you take it off the bill. On the way out, my wife asked the waitress if she told the chef. The waitress replied that no one ever said that about the fish before, as if she judged my wife's complaint as irrelevant and did nothing about it. Here's the thing: My wife said that this was the worst meal she ever had in Vail. We spend 60-70 days each year in Vail, so that is saying a lot. And it's not like she was just in a mood to complain, because she panned the fish right after raving about the soup. read more
