I loved the FOOD! They got everything we ordered just right! The arugula salad and the margarita pizza were on point! Can't say enough amazing things about this pie crust! What wasn't so amazing - Steve, our server. He spent most of the time visiting with a friend at the next table that we sat there waiting for him to take our order. When we did order he didn't seem to eager to follow up. I believe even before we could ask for dessert, he offered up our bill. I had been seeing the reviews on the Tiramisu and was eager to try it. The chef came out and start screaming at me saying that it is impossible and that he doesn't think the meat is salty . I was shocked the way he was treating me ... I was so embarrassed because all tables stopped eating and everybody were listening to what happened. Then he said that I am stupid Mexican and I should go back to Mexico and eat there !!!!!! Excellent service, food and ambiance! Sat on patio and ordered a cheese plate, wine and the gemelli and sausage dish- everything was divine. Finished our meal with a crème brûlée type dessert- also fantastic! Highly recommend for an adult evening. This was the worst service I have ever gotten at a restaurant. Our server was rude the entire time, talked to us maybe three times, we couldn't find her anywhere and then saw her talking to a host. We had to ask another server about our bruschetta and she said it was ready and immediately brought it out, so how long was it sitting there while our server was off messing around? I am a server and this was an absolutely terrible experience. DO NOT EAT HERE. Overpriced and not that great. The margarita pizza said tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese but I'm guessing they count the tomato sauce as the advertised "tomato" because there weren't any sliced tomatoes on the pizza and it barely had any basil. The bruschetta was also extremely overpriced. It is literally one piece of bread with cheap mozzarella on top and tomato. Not worth it at all. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD. YUM but $$$$$$ for the entree portions. We got the Fritto Misto and the caprese to start. Both were very good, especially the calamari. For my entree I got the truffle gnocchi which was very good -- not too truffley and the gnocchi was cooked well. Definitely a small portion for $33, though. I also tried the mussels and was very pleasantly surprised that I liked them -- my first mussels experience. Can't remember all of the wines we got but I do remember liking all of the reds we tried. Was with a big group and everyone was satisfied with their meal. This place came highly recommended from our co-workers so me and my friend decided to try this place. I was disappointed to say the least. We both ordered their panini. I ordered the vegetarian panini and on the menu they do not give details about what vegetables are in it. I did not expect the dish to have eggplants but yet there is was. They put grilled eggplant and zucchini and that completely ruined the panini since it was soggy and had no crunch. Also, it was really oily. I was not happy with their service. We asked the waiter to split our bill according to our orders and even after he showed him what card to bill what order he messed it up. He switched mine and my friends order and billed the wrong credit card. We both were upset about this. This establishment had an amazing welcoming for a walk into the bar, the food and drinks were spectacular and timing was very nice on drinks and food with (John) especially were amazing due to his knowledge on the entire food and drink menu. I guess I should have checked the Yelp reviews before sitting down. But since I was really hungry and just looking for lunch along the way, I figured that it would be better than stopping at a Burger King - Eek! Methinks not. When you order a "Steak Sandwich" at an Italian restaurant you would expect a hunk of meat that looks at least a bit like a steak. If the steak is not the best quality, it would be sliced up and still be recognizable as having come from a steak. What arrived was more like pulled pork or shredded meat. Like a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, except without the cheese, without the spice, had no taste and dry to boot. At least the bun was nicely toasted. That would have earned La Bottega at least 2 stars from me, but while I was taking the last few bites of the sandwich. The server came, said "I'll take that away from you" and before I could answer (I was biting into the sandwich) took my plate away leaving me holding the last few bites of my sandwich. What's up?? Run out of plates in the kitchen? Unforgivable even if they were in a hurry to close. But it was 10 minutes to 1pm. read more

On my recent visit to Vail I had to stop in a few times at my favorite restaurant, la Bottega. You are treated like family, the staff and owners are very professional and welcoming. The food, as always, was outstanding. I will be back on my next visit. As far as an earlier post from Bonnie B. is concerned, I happened to witness this encounter with the owner on September 15th while I was having lunch. These 2 ladies were out of control with foul language. They were standing right behind the owner, who was sitting down and they were the ones not wearing masks, which is required when you leave your table. From my experience this restaurant follows all the rules regarding the pandemic. I guess you can't please everybody. We'll see you soon for an excellent meal and experience. read more

Where to eat? Where to eat? Isn't that always the question when you are in a new town? I tried Yelping about some places, but still couldn't decide since this was my first time in Vail, so I asked my hotel concierge who was quite helpful. She opened up all these menus and let me peruse until I happened upon La Bottega. She smiled and said it was one of her favs, so I thought I would give it a try. She called them up and said they were having some special that week (25% off entire check - so even better). Had the minestrone/farm vegetable soup which hit the spot on a chilly winter night. Also tried a salad which was average (as expected), and a wood fired pizza. The pizza was thin and chewy in a NY style tradition but not as cheesey. All and all a good experience. They looked like they picked up a small to-go salad at the grocery and put them on a plate. For $5 at Safeway this would be fine, but not for a restaurant. Somebody in my party asked if they could have a different sauce with the pasta dish they ordered, the waiter paused for about 15 seconds and rolled his eyes at us! Then my other friend asked what types of sauces were offered and the waiter threw the sauce menu at her! Not professional at all...All the waiters were staring at us as they were walking by as something was wrong with us. But on a different note, I got the signature linguine and it was very tasty. The waiter gave me personally no issues but I think that was because I made no changes to the dish on the menu. I would not recommend ANYBODY to come here. On a mini vacation visiting Aspen and Vail. I last visited La Bottega 4 years ago as part of foodie tour. Chef served truffle gnocchi...it was the best gnocchi I've ever had...very light little pillows of pasta in butter truffled sauce. Have literally tried to get the recipe or tried making it but no success. So on this trip, made sure to return for this special dish....again it was wonderful! Our waiter said it's a popular dish! My husband had the lamb osso buco that was more like a braised lamb shank that was very tasty. We shared our entrees ending with gelato and coffee....very happy and full! read more

We went there tonight with friends. They had packed us there like sardines. I dont think it was even fire marshal compliant! The food was ok, pizza was soggy. But neither of these is the reason I am writing the review (I rarely write reviews). There were 7 of us, and they brought the dinner for 3, and 15 minutes later the dinner for others was still not there. I went to complain and they had me talk to the owner. She was completely unapologetic and rude. This is the last time we are going there. I must say that our server and the manager of the restaurant were incredibly nice and did what they could, but at the end of the day the buck stops with the owner! Plenty of better places in Vail. Mixed reviews on this place. The concierge at our hotel recommended this restaurant, but I'm kind of wishing I had also checked Yelp before we went there, because if I had, we probably would have skipped La Bottega. While Yelp can be hit or miss on their reviews (I completely disagreed the 4.5 stars users had given Alpenrose on Vail), I think this one was pretty spot on here. Our waiter was a nice young Romanian guy, who was very pleasant and friendly. The service at this place seems to be the number one complaint on yelp, and while our waiter was pleasant, the overall service experience wasn't the greatest. Bread took a while to arrive, took a while to finally get the wine list, which should have already been on the table when we sat down, and when my father ordered a second glass of wine it took over 20 minutes for it to arrive. The Ambiance was pretty nice, especially if you're in the main room where the pizza oven is on display. The restaurant did feel a little tight though. Fortunately, we only had 3 in our party and not 4, because the 4th seat would not have had much space due to the neighboring table. The food was split decision. My folks shared the Fettuccine "alla Boscaiola" dish and really liked it. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, and was highly disappointed. The highlight was that the noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, but that was about it. I added chicken breast to it, which was a little on the tough side, but perhaps the most disappointment was that the dish was unbearably drenched in butter and/or oil that pooled at the bottom of the plate. If I can figure out how to attach the picture I took to this review, I will...it was pretty bad. Maybe I just picked the wrong dish, or maybe it was an off night for them, but my folks did enjoy their food, so I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars. For the price of some of the entrees though ($28-$50$, hopefully the rest of the menu is on a much higher level, but I don't know if that's a risk I'm willing to take; if by chance I make it back to La Bottega, I think I will follow the advice of many other Yelp users and just stick to the pizza. My wife and I had lunch here on an August afternoon. It was pretty empty when we got there at about 11:30. It's a very nice venue with both inside and patio seating. They also have a nice looking bar! Of course we were seated immediately. We chose a shady spot on the patio. My wife ordered a roasted beet salad and I ordered a 12" pizza. Both were delicious. I got say, I was a little scared to come here because of the 3 star rating, as I had no say in choosing this restaurant.. From my experience, this place serves excellent italian food, at a very reasonable price, in a homy setting...and I'm not sure how it got 3 stars?....especially being a restaurant that has been around since 1997. 5/5 beef carpaccio. Asked with no truffle...no problem. 5/5 linguini with clams, asked for no garlic, no problem. Pasta al dente 4+/5 bread and olive oil 4/5 tiramisu. Thought it would be superb, maybe not moisty enough? Felt a tad stale? 6/5 sauvignon creamy dessert...forgot the actual name! Service slow at first. Understandable, restaurant mega packed. But overall, excellent waiter, busboy, and host. Will repeat...for those who understand spanish--bueno, bonito y barato(inexpensive). But you can always make Matsuhisa sushi close by your choice. Which serves quality food in a mega pompous atmosphere/poor treatment at a ridiculous price(and Im still stupid enough to be a patron...) 6/6 happy customers. We arrived on time for reservation and they seated us only couple of minutes late we proceeded to order some awesome dishes including a pasta with with sausage and Vodka sauce (which I highly recommend)! The waiter we Had was especially accommodating. When the kitchen ran out of arugula, he took the time to sort through a bag of mixed greens to pull out arugula specifically to put it on our beef carpaccio. That service that you rarely see! Worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant in Vail, CO. A group of us went to get the $20.17 entree deals for dinner. Not only did the waitress Kristin not check up on us, but it was 45 minutes to an hour until we got our food. Once it came, one of the "medium" 18 oz New York strip steaks was RARE. The waitress said it would take 25 minutes to put it back on the grill. Disgusted by the steak and hungry, the girl asked for something quick and easy (so she didn't have to keep the rest of us waiting after we were done with our meals). The waitress offered the girl ravioli as a substitute - with the options of asparagus or lobster ravioli. The girl picked lobster ravioli. When the bill came, the girl had been charged $30 for the lobster ravioli. We assumed it was part of the special - since we specifically asked for those items initially. When questioned about it, Kristin pulls out a menu, points to the meal and goes "that is what you picked." Our response: that is what you recommended as being comparable and we didn't have a menu at the reorder time. We asked to talk to the manager Gigi. Every person at the table tried to explain the situation to Gigi. His response: what do you think would be a solution. As people in the service industry, we explained that he needed to either comp the one meal or charge us the amount of the deal - $20.17. At this point, we have been in the restaurant close to 2 hours. He never apologized and was patronizing to all of us. When he brought back the check, he threw it down on the table without a word. He charged us the $20.17 for her meal. Needless to say, none of us will be coming back. We will also NEVER refer people to this establishment. I expect more from a restaurant in downtown Vail. It dramatically decreases the level of service, prestige, and respect that a customer should receive in a world class ski resort. You should never have to argue with an establishment over a poor meal - especially when it was so blatantly their fault. I am truly disgusted. read more
