According to the past reviews, La Cabaña has been around for at least 15 years. This is the first time we have been, & come to find out they completely rebuilt their restaurant. It is quite stunning. Once we passed it, we came back for dinner. They serve Colombian food - rotisserie chicken, steak, Colombian soups and dishes, breakfast, lunch, & dinner. They also have a bar. We had empanadas, agua de panela con queso (traditional Colombian warm drink with cheese), and Ajiaco which is a Colombian chicken stew. Our food was excellent, & our service was too. I used to love this place and have been coming here for years, but unfortunately it's not the same anymore. The food quality and portion sizes have declined, and the service was disappointing. Due to health reasons, I asked for my meal without rice or beans to eat at the restaurant and requested those sides to be packed to go. The server refused and told me I would have to pack the food myself because they consider it "two different orders." This is not an unusual request and other restaurants handle it without any issue. Wow! My first time at La Cabana and we really enjoyed it! I ordered the lemonade with coconut and it was so refreshing. I had the 1/4 chicken which was served with rice, salad and a clear chicken soup. So flavorful. My partner had a combo platter of different meats which was also good. Was in Tampa for the day this weekend and friend of mine found this great Colombian spot. Let me start by saying that the customer service was amazing! Our server Sandra made some great recommendations, her personality and hospitality was amazing from beginning to end! I had the carne asada with 2 sunny side up eggs, rice, and a side of arepitas, and of course I had to the colombiana soda. The decor makes you feel like you are in restaurant in Colombia. The decor was so beautiful and their outdoor seating area was so airy, I loved and enjoyed every second here. The food was seasoned perfectly not too salty and not too bland, it was perfect. The pork ceviche with plantain chips we had was the beginning of a great dinner, not too salty and not too tart, you must try this dish if you are in Tampa and come try this place. Parking is very limited so I would suggest carpooling or getting an uber. I quite literally had someone try to go around me, and once they realized they couldn't because of how narrow the parking lot was they had to wait anyways. If you're in the west side of Tampa make sure go give this place a try. read more

La Cabaña is amazing. I really love this place. The mango juice is so good. The Pollo Al Carbon is delicious and the Bandeja Paisa is a must if you want to try the typical Colombian plate with a little bit of everything its so good with the carne asada rice and beans that just pair with it perfectly . I definitely recommend keep in mind that it can get pretty busy on weekends so call ahead if you're coming in. read more

Came here with family that was in town visiting. This place was recommended by a coworker. The speciality is Colombian cuisine. The atmosphere was loud but having made a reservation we were seated quickly. Our server was prompt and polite. We made our drink and food orders quickly. I got the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer which is pictured. I then ordered the Arroz Especial Con Mariscos Cabana. The ceviche was good with a lite sauce with a hint of what I would say was vinegar. Needless to say I wolfed it down. My cabana arrived and it was massive. The various ingredients work well together. I added a little salsa for a kick. Ala in all 4.6 stars. read more

I'm not very familiar with Colombian dishes, but I know I like what I had at La Cabaña. The wait wasn't long and the hostess was very welcoming and told us it would be a short wait. The biscec encebollado, the grilled steak dish and the grilled chicken were nothing short of excellent. The portions are plentiful, with all the dishes including a side of rice, beans and your choice of fries, yuca or a salad. The best part of the meal and what really brought everything together were the natural fruit juices (passionfruit)--fresh fruit, water, sugar and ice, vibrant--that were so refreshing and fresh. read more

This restaurant provided terrible service. Alexis was my server, and she certainly didn't give me the best experience; and when I tried to speak with the manager, they tried to avoid it at all costs. Now, not only do they have a dissatisfied customer, but someone who hates this restaurant and will make sure to tell everyone what happened to me. The treatment I received was outrageous. The food was incorrect and the server didn't want to change it out because she didn't want to blamed. The ambiance was ruined by the experience I had. read more

Well... there's a positive out of a negative; the rotisserie chicken was gone at 11am... they were making more and it was going to be ready by 12:30... that alone says that chicken must be amazing!! I will definitely try it soon. I had the grilled flank steak; the portions were enough to share with another person. The flavor was great, the red beans were really good and the rice was perfect. My friend requested the beef and veggie soup; it came with 2 chunks of meat, shredded carrots, beets and rice. She loved it. The grilled chicken must have been awesome; it was devoured without sharing. The decor is the only thing good here. I have been wanting 29 minutes for breakfast so I cannot comment on the food. It seems that if you do not speak the language you are put at the back of the line. There are several better place close by that treat customers better. I will not be back. Update. I'll be honest the restaurant is newly renovated location, but the food was nothing to right home about , the beans were soso nothing great the hot sauce helped everything ,the steak was tender but very thin and small, but it was the best part of the meal. Sadly half of the things I wanted to order were not ready yet 10:30am on Saturday! Soup of day not ready , chicken not ready , chicken and yellow rice not ready , daily soup not ready! This is my first time coming to this restaurant and it was the worst experience ever. The waiter was not nice at all. The food came out late one thing first then the other by the time we ate the food was cold. Very nice renovations beautiful inside but very bad service not organized at all they were all over the place. The bathrooms very nice but no toilet paper and not paper towels. Amazing food! I got the typical platter and there is a massive amount of food on there. Everything is so flavorful and tastes just as good as my mom's cooking. Our server was very kind and was very sweet to my grandma and made sure to get her a special meal since she doesn't eat much. While they are under construction, I am very excited for when they are fully refurbished and open again. There's a back door entrance with a very clean dining area that is a fairly spacious for the time being. This is my third time here and that kitchen is putting it work cranking out great meals! Came in because i was being told that the food was to die for. When we got there,I waited and waited and the hostess kept looking at me and ignored me. When I approached her and asked if we had to sign in or if there was a waitlist she said no and turned away. I asked her again about getting a seat to dine in and she said, oh youre picking up a to go order? I explained to her that no, I wasn't there to pick up food, but that I would like to dine in . Finally we got sat down. When we got Our food it was way over cooked and the service was not the greatest. We had to wait to get a refill for water, and when I said something about the food, the waitress gave me a look as if to say wth. And lastly, our waitress came back with a water refill she had other cups in her hands and then left a mug of beer that was mostly empty next to me at the table. Never came back to get it. I think this place is extremely overpriced. I purchased a sancocho (chicken soup). I was charged $17 plus for a bland soup with hardly any vegetables, one of the chicken parts was the back of a chicken with the skin still stuck in it, it was not very appetizing at all, the whole presentation was horrible. I guess they are attempting to recover the money they spent renovating the place by providing overpriced food. I don't plan to return to this restaurant. read more

This is a very interesting hole in the wall Colombian place. Not bad! The outside of this place looks a bit shady on a random corner on Hillsborough. But as you walk-in, you'll see it's kinda cute! The booths are like little cabins (like what its name said!) Food is average and to be expected. I tired the grilled fish and beef tongue, both are okay. Lightly seasoned, grilled to perfection, and pretty tender and juicy. Honestly, not bad! However, if you were to compare them to best of class Columbia of Hispanic food in general, they are probably more on the average side, it won't really surprise or disappoint. Service was okay, server didn't speak much English, which is acceptable, it's a very Hispanic area. We had a Spanish speaker in our group who helped order for the table, otherwise it might have been tough. But the server really tried to make a pretty welcoming experience! Although food came pretty slow, we waited at least 40 minutes for our food. Overall, it's okish, I probably won't go out of my way to this place. I had the Bandeja De Pueblo, consisting of Lomo de cerdo, chicharron, huevo, maduro, arepa, ensalada, arroz y frijoles, which was tasty (with exception of arepa; the texture and flavor did not hit). The lomo de cerdo (pork) was juicy and tender and the chicharron was crunchy and fatty. Depending on how busy it is, the service may be on the slower side so don't come too hungry ;). First- the service is absolutely terrible. Expect to wait 45 minutes (unfortunately, not an exaggeration) for water. That being said, the food is and has always been really great. The red beans and rice are my personal favorite, but La Cabana is really known for its meat entrees. My small gripe is that the tostones don't come with any sort of sauce (who doesn't have mojo or at least some garlic with oil??) but overall the food is definitely some of the best in the area! read more

For Sunday, it is beef tripe soup. I got one order of that. It come with two sides. I got rice and salad. The soup includes some meat and beef tripe. The soup is great with softening tripe. It go well with the rice. My second dish is the carne asada in the lite side. This dish is not at it normal portion. The beef is average grade. Not the best. But the seasoning is there. Some of the best chicken I have had in a while. Amazing flavor and juicy! I got the combo one which was a whole chicken and 2 large sides for $17.99!!! Great price! I got the yellow rice and corn cakes as my sides. The corn cakes were not what I was expecting, I was thinking more of the sweet yellow cakes which they weren't. This is a wonderful little spot that puts out delicious Columbian flavors at a great price! My Cuban u Cleo turned me onto the place, telling me I really needed to try their rotisserie chicken. And man, was his recommendation right on point! Since my first visit here a couple of years ago, I've come back again and again. When I'm not ordering their rotisserie chicken, my husband and I like to get the mixed meats platter. It's loaded with a variety of crunchy fried meats, fried plantains and other accompaniments, and sliced tomato. Our continued search for a great bandeja paisa led us to try this restaurant which was recommended to us by a Colombian server we met at another restaurant. We went on a Sunday, around 11am, and the restaurant was pretty empty but it was quickly filling up as we were leaving sometime after noon. We had the bandeja paisa, a side of morcilla and one beef empanada. The meat in the bandeja paisa was probably some of the best we've had when compared to other Colombian restaurants in the area, so much so we decided to order another piece of steak (just with a side salad) afterwards. The beans in the bandeja and the sausage were also really good, but the egg was super small. As expected from our experience, the small arepa (corn cake) was awful though, very dry and flavorless. The beef empanada was surprisingly good, very flavorful and not at all greasy. I've had really bad experiences with Colombian empanadas in the past so I'm always hesitant to try again, but these definitely made me reconsider. Lastly we took some rotisserie chicken to go. They don't have the chicken available til after noon so we waited a bit for it. The chicken was good, not as moist as I would have liked (definitely not as good as Peruvian rotisserie chicken) but it was worth trying. Service was very friendly and attentive. Don't be deterred by the construction going on outside, there's plenty of parking around the side of the building. read more
