Huge poster board menus with pictures of the food with tape over the prices, worn out wood panel walls from the 90s, employees whose 2nd language is English, the beautiful aroma of authentic Dominican food, hand written signs informing you they don't take apple pay, etc. There was even a dude walking around trying to sell fake airpods, which is a telltale sign that a spot is gonna SLAP. I walked in and got in the short line and ordered my homeostasis meal of a half chicken, sides of yellow rice and beans, and plantains. I also added a beef empanada, as when I see an empanada on a menu my hands are tired. All of this food for $18.06 is a STEAL. I got my plate and took a seat in the back of the restaurant where there is ample seating and black film over the windows to keep the sun at bay. This chicken was fantastic, although not top 5. I have it right at the top of my A-tier rankings for chicken spots, just barely missing S-tier. S-tier is special though, reserved for the Casa Adelas, Malecons, and Caravan Chickens of the world. Sides were great and the beef empanada was special. The beef was so well seasoned and reminded me of how my Granny used to make it. Shout out to Granny! I'm talking blacked out windows in the dining room, wood paneling, linoleum floors, outdated menu boards with tape over the prices, and ripped signs claiming they don't take Apple Pay, but they use a Toast POS. The entrance is narrow. Its very hot. There's always a line, even at 2 a.m. It's never clear if the people in line have ordered or are waiting to order. The steam trays are behind a plexiglass barrier which is at the perfect height for not being able to hear or see what each other is saying - forcing you to repeat yourself and make big gestures. If none of this sounds appealing then this definitely isn't the place for you. But it's worth it because the food is so damn good! They're known for their chicken and offer both fried and rotisserie. Lunch specials are affordable and popular. A 3 piece with fries (leg, thigh, and wing) will run you 7 bucks. The fries are hearty like steak fries look like crinkle cut without the crinkle and served well-done. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. I recommend asking for some rosada for an extra kick. The stews and meats are all pretty good, especially the beef stew and pollo guisado. Chicharonnes are available by the pound. I hear the smoothies and drinks are supposed to be amazing I haven't tried them yet but I have seen plenty of them run out to the dining room. If you're heading to a show at the Kings Theatre I would highly recommend stopping here before or after. I have been eating at La Cabana for at least 30 years. The service and food have declined over the years. It's been a hit or miss since the pandemic (2019). The older woman who serves (has to be the owner) mixes up the orders and holds up the line tremendously. She needs to sit back and relax. When I see her serving, I want to leave. The food is "okay". I've had better Spanish Food. They're aren't many Spanish restaurants in the Flatbush area and this is how they're able to dominate with that regard but, trust me, there's better out there. My issue with the store is that you take a chance when either paying with your debit card or attempting to use the ATM in their store to remove funds to pay for your meal. Either way, it's best to come in with cash. In the past I've used a debit card, only to be told the transaction didn't "go through" , forcing me to use their ATM. Believing it was a system error, I ultimately ended up paying twice for mediocre Spanish food (I work and live too far , nor have the energy to come back and debate). Now most recently another similar situation happened, while attempting to once again use their ATM, an "error" message appeared. As I write I'm awaiting for those funds to be reversed. Oddly enough, their debit card machine worked and I wasn't charged twice. There's too many people handling transactions behind the register. And I still believe that - based on whose at the register - that the first situation that occurred was a scam. I paid for the food with my debit, was told that it didn't go through, and then paid with cash, which I believe they kept. The food is okay, but not worth playing with your card for. Bring cash and ensure to get it from a reputable ATM source before you go to their store. read more

Food wise, I ordered half a roasted chicken which has to be one of the best and juiciest I've ever had. There were a lot of Dominican dishes to order from but no real menu explaining what things are. Service wise it was very very slow and the cashier didn't greet anybody nor say thank you. I found it odd since Dominicans are usually extremely friendly. There was a drunk guy with a beard who wasn't wearing a mask and kept on going behind the counter as well, considering the COVID situation probably not the best idea. It breaks my heart to write this review, because I know this place from when my father used to bring food from here when I was a kid. For old time's sake, I decided to order some roasted pork with a side of rice and beans. The pork was okay but the rice and beans reeked of cigarettes. I kept trying to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and was hoping that maybe the rice had been part of a batch that had gotten burned, but after awhile, there was no mistaking the odor. This wasn't the smell of a burnt pan or a charcoal grill. It was definitely cigarettes, like the person who packed the food might've been smoking and accidentally let some ashes fall onto it. It was so bad that I had to throw the entire plate of rice and beans out. A shame, because I really wanted to give this place five stars. read more

My go to restaraunt for Spanish food. Their rotissere chicken is by far the best ive ever had and the flavor is sooo immaculate. I only love the rice and beans and their maduros. The maduros are always perfect everytime i order. This is the only place I can trust that my maduros will be ripe and perfect when i order them.
