I've been wanting to try Peppa's for awhile, so decided to grab a meal to-go after dinner since I was in the area. There are no seats anyways, so expect to grab and go here. They have a kiosk screen to order when using card or order with the cashier if paying cash. I would've loved to try the Oxtail, but it was out. Instead, I got the Jerk Chicken with Mac and Cheese ($14). Also added oxtail sauce and extra jerk and BBQ sauce too. Definitely drown your meat in sauce as it's got such a nice savory flavor with a kick over the smokey chicken. This was such a great combo of meat and carbs; and so flavorful from the sauces and spices. I don't often have Carribean food, so this was such a treat. I also ordered a Sprite and festival, which seemed like a bread dessert. I would have ordered the mac n' cheese, but they didn't have any today. The service was okay. A person who came in after me was served before me, perhaps a regular. I was given half of my order, but had to ask for the rest. The person forgot my complete order three times. The food was bland. I like that I could add more jerk chicken sauce to my dish, but it tasted like store bought BBQ sauce. The cabbage was cut into strips like collard greens, making them easier to eat (and ideally, easier to absorb flavor from the broth.) However, the cabbage had no flavor. Nor did the rice. My favorite part of the meal was the festival, a dense sweet bread. It tastes like corn bread and a cake doughnut. I would get it again. Jerk chicken is smokey, flavorful to the crisp and a wee on the dry side. Depending on how u like your chicken- moist and soft- this is not. Packed solid with smokiness thrown over some rice and peas and sauce of choice this would be amazing. Peppas has an amazingly spicy and tangy bbq sauce. Also fantastic if you're on keto and you want finger licking delicious no fuss no muss. Oxtail on the savory side and could be cooked to more tenderness- but that's me. I like a fork tender, fall apart, sweet sticky oxtail over rice but I've never met one I didn't like. The Mac a bit softer and drier cheese than I'd prefer- but I don't know what I'm talking about Bc I'm not a fan of Mac and cheese. The cashier is very rude, and I have been coming here for years and may never come back. I asked her if she could put the curry goat separately in a small bowl. She refused and I asked for the manager and she has no way to reach the manager and told me the manger would refused too. How can someone work somewhere and can't reach their managers? I called my husband who said the young lady refused him before and when he spoke to the manager, she said it's ok as long as he pay for the bowl. I mentioned that to her and another working who agrees that she sometimes accommodate as such, but the young lady still refused, and instead, I heard her in the back telling the other nice young polite man that I was lying. The plantains are kinda dry and sweet-ish, not soft and decadently sweet. The cabbage is.....different. Not awful, just not what I'm used to when it comes to my Caribbean food spots. The Mac pie is definitely nothing special, I didn't enjoy it and actually barely ate it. The pink lemonade is good just very sweet. I always questioned whether this place was owned by the same people who operate the Flatbush location due to a negative experience I had with the jerk chicken here...found it was hardly seasoned, lacking in flavor and chicken was largely pink, undercooked. Never had a bad experience like this at the OG location. Plus side, online ordering is very easy now, pick up in less than 20 minutes. Only complaint is I paid $16 for a medium oxtail meal, which includes only 3 pieces of oxtail and literally ONE plantain. Another negative, includes rice and peas only, no cabbage!!! If you're not gonna give more plantains or side dish, you should at least throw in cabbage. I loved how they still do lunch special even on weekends. I came here on a Sunday around 12pm and got their lunch special with jerk chicken ($7). It comes with a choice of side, rice, beans, and jerk chicken (or other protein you want to choose). For the side, I chose plantains and my boyfriend who also got the lunch special chose macaroni salad. I wanted to get their mac and cheese but apparently you can't choose it as a side for the lunch special. After we got our order, we drizzled their jerk chicken sauce on our food and I didn't know it was spicy... I was still able to enjoy it, but for someone like me who has very low tolerance for spicy food, I wished I opted for their bbq sauce which was another option they had at the counter. The jerk chicken was juicy and plantains on the side were also really good. The portion was perfect for me as they give you a decent amount of rice, but if you're hungry, then I recommend getting the regular jerk chicken meal ($10). Their sides are sweet plantains, macaroni salad (must try) cabbage and something else. They also have festival bread which is pretty good. Service isn't all that fast. Staff are not exactly friendly and are all in their teens and early 20's. So expect some hiccups, attitudes, unprofessionalism. They only deliver through Uber eats. Nonetheless it is really good! A fairly good Jerk Chicken spot that's quite filling per meal. I remember going to the Flatbush one a few times in the past but this one is closer to where I am now and though he experience differs but is roughly the same quality. If you come here for the jerk chicken like I do then be warned that the large is VERY filling. It comes if huge scopes of rice/beans, a small amount of sides and the jerk itself. All of it is good though the chicken shines out the best. I do wish though that they give you more of the sides and less of the rice though for the price of the meal. Right now they don't have any outdoor seating which is a shame. It seems like one of those places that now makes bank on ordering apps. You can tell based on the interior being quite simple... I don't remember if the Flatbush one was the same as that was a few years ago when I tried that location. Still even if there was just a few tables I would of highly appreciated it.
