I love the design of this place- rustic French countryside yet 20 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. We ate at the restaurant for the first time this week and were quite impressed. The staff were all very attentive, and the service excellent. We had French onion soup, a cheese platter, Filet Mignon, wine, cocktails and the bill was $175.00 for the two of us. I don't get it. We were visiting family in the area to celebrate two birthdays and made reservations at La Caille as we understood it was a wonderful place for a special celebration. While the food was decent, the service was absolutely horrific. The birthdays weren't acknowledged despite including it with the reservation. Our server disappeared for long stretches. Food arrived at weird intervals (eg: some things came fast but then others just never came until we asked). All in all, it turned what should have been a nice birthday dinner for a party of five into a two hour forty-five minute ordeal. It is clear you don't come here for the food. As I sat down w prospective clients, I noticed the freakishly humongous breast implants all waitresses had. I had been here a few times before and noticed them too but was focused on more important things....Interestingly, no review talks about a "sex trafficking" type of operation here. The ladies are nice to the wealthier better looking guys unless they are loaded. Then they are nice.... Some, you can tell don't feel comfortable in the setting which gave me the impression that... Some just look and behave very oddly and something doesn't sit well here. If you know a girl who works here, pls have her seek help. No human being should have to sell and push their bodies this way to fit into some "job position." Observing for a while... this is what I gathered. Excuse the 1.5 min review! I must say the long dresses are interesting to see given they have to navigate the crammed tables. The wedding venue is in a good setting but very outdated! Let me make a quick pause to say, I absolutely hated ruining new shoes on their uneven floors. Overall, very u comfortable to walk in here. The tables were sooo cramped up together that you could hear everyone's conversation without even trying. It could not be avoided. Food is beyond awful. Beautiful grounds, no doubt about that. The problem is, they're trying to be a restaurant. Stepping inside to be seated, the first thing that hits you is not the smell of delicious food being prepared, but the intense odor of cat piss. When we asked the hostess about this, she said she can't smell it because she is probably just used to it. We came in to celebrate a birthday. Party of four +1 child = $500 dinner and the food was just "so so". For these prices, I'd expect Michelin quality cuisine. This not the case. We won't be returning. read more

This is very prestigious place. We had a group from work meet here to enjoy dinner and they did not disappoint. First off if it's snowing plan on having a vehicle that has good tires or 4 wheel drive. It's like a different world when you pass though the gates. The food was very well prepared. We had the seafood appetizer, the escargot, and the scallops. All were nice but the best was the scallops. Course two I had the duck consume, while my wife had the pear salad. Both were good but I do wish I had ordered the lobster bisque. Course three I ordered the buffalo and my wife the Rosemary chicken. Both were excellent perfectly cooked and layered with flavor. Going back I would lean toward the chicken. It was delicious. Finally I ordered the cookies and milk. As expected it was cookies and a glass of cold milk. All in all a great night was had. With our food being as expensive as it is, I am a bit disappointed. My husband said his omelet was so bitter that he couldn't even finish it. My food, when delivered, had fallen off of my salmon and was spilling over my plate and onto the table. We noticed that our waitress knew the people at the table next to us and visited them probably 10 times in the 45 minutes that we were there. Meanwhile only visiting us 4 times. We also noticed other tables were getting their coffee served to them at the table with refill kettlews whereas we got ours brought to us in our cups and had even spilled over the side. My coffee was a quarter of the way filled, my husbands was halfway filled and we were never offered any refills. We still tipped our waitress graciously, although we felt like we were being treated as though we were eating at I-hop. On my last visit the neon sign was out of place the sparkle vinyl bench to slide into at the square table for barely two with no table cloth. We ordered mushrooms, which when presented at the table looked like burnt hair! apparently the served was just as surprised as we were. Needless to say we did not eat it. The meal was slow in coming out and SO DISAPPOINTING the manager comped our meal and even offered us a complimentary dessert. Well, nothing on the dessert menu looked very good, peanut butter pudding is not my idea of french food....there was nothing chocolate on the dessert menu!!! We were very disappointed as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary as we had done many times in the past year. We made a mistake coming on valentines day. We had reservations, and weren't told of the menu changes, from 24$ an entre to 100$ per person, completely removing all French entrees from the menu. Dry salmon; sour oysters; overcooked fish; undercooked bok choy; bland seasoning on the ahi tuna; "wagyu beef"...Which was chopped up into bits, and had absolutely no iconic marbling. We saw pictures of this place and drove over 600 miles to try it! The ambience is phenomenal!!! The food is incredible. We had the ribeye steak, French onion soup, a mango cheesecake, Filet, salad, and a mojito (without alcohol). All vegetables are fresh from their garden!! The waiter, Steven was exceptional! There were 9 of us and he called all of us by our first names, made sure he stood by my mother, who is hard of hearing, to make sure she could hear him. He was a 1 of a kind waiter! The Escargot was cooked perfectly in a garlic, butter, parsley sauce, It is a go to every time you come here. We skipped salads because we ordered the tomahawk steak. We ordered it medium rare and it came out perfect. When it was presented to us they actually had very specific forks and knives that were made locally to add to the presentation. Three of us ate the tomahawk and couldn't quite finish it. (My dog loved the bone from it). For dessert we had the creme brulee. Perfectly toasted on top very very rich inside. I am not sure where to start. My wife and I have eaten at La Caille on numerous occasions. We love the ambience, and DID love the food, wine, and service. Those days are no more. La Caille shut down during COVID, like all other restaurants in the greater Salt Lake City area. They were quite slow to reopen. They posted information stating that the delay was due to "remodeling". I don't know if that was true or not. Also at some point the executive chef won on Guys Grocery Games. This may help explain the entire situation. So, they finally opened up, much later than all the other restaurants. We were excited and booked a reservation on their opening night. We sat outside on the northern patio. We were shocked to find out that they had removed escargot from the menu. That is one main reason that I like to go there. They are one of two restaurants in Utah that regularly have escargot on the menu. We were told by someone working there that night that they were trying to rebrand themselves as a restaurant where "people would come once a week instead of once every five years". They also did not bring us the normal expansive wine list. The only thing availability were four bottles that were all priced from $250 and up to $1,000 per bottle. They also offered 4 or 5 bottles of their La Caille "branded" wine. I am not a complainer....but we complained. They management finally agreed to let us have two bottles of our favorite wine there. It is a Pinot Gris called TiefenBrunner. This was a struggle to get them to let us have that wine. We discussed with our server the fact that the executive chef had won an episode of Guys Grocery Games. He informed us, during that conversation, that the executive chef was opening his own place somewhere in Salt Lake City. I am not sure of the name of the restaurant or the location, I just can't remember. The server did share that information with us. My wife and I decided not to return following this night. Well, we heard somewhere that they had re-added escargot to the menu. I called to verify this and was told that they had added the escargot back. I must not have been the only one upset by this. So, we booked a reservation for Friday 19th of February, 2021 at 7:15 PM. When we got there we were one of 4 or 5 couples waiting in the foyer to be seated. After a few minutes the hostess arrived and was shocked at having so many people waiting to be seated. I wasn't sure how they would be surprised as all had reservations. We were seated in a timely manner. The wine list FIASCO had not been fixed. There were four bottles of wine listed ranging in price from $250(ish) to $1,100(ish) and then 4 or 5 bottles of their La Caille "branded" wines. I am not averse to paying a premium price for premium wine....with limits. We decided on cocktails instead of paying these exorbitant prices for wine we did not want. I had a martini. It arrived and was literally almost unbearable to drink. I drank and moved on to a cocktail of my choosing. The escargot WAS on the menu. I ordered it and my wife ordered the Foie Gras. The escargot was TERRIBLE. It had no flavor, was overcooked. The butter was very bland. There was no salt, no garlic and not enough parsley. It was all I could do to struggle through all 7 of them. The Foie Gras was NOT seared and more like a pate in consistency and presentation. It was unimpressive. We shared a squash and burrata salad. The salad was delicious. I ordered the duck breast, which was previously cooked to perfection at La Caille. My wife ordered a lobster "fondue". The word fondue was misleading. What arrived was a 6 oz lobster tail cut into 4 pieces, it came with assorted veggies and a sauce over the top. I am not sure why it was called a fondue. She said the flavors were ok. The duck breast was an enormous disappointment and almost inedible. It was cold. The skin was not crisp. The flavor was strange and unappetizing. I forced myself to eat two slices and stopped there. The service was unbelievably slow. I wanted to blame it on a trimmed down staff due to COVID or whatever excuse you want to fill in. I repeatedly saw bus staff not doing anything, but leaving plates on our table. It was a painfully slow night with severely disappointing food and service. The wine menu fiasco is absolutely mind boggling. We have decided to stop going for good. We don't know if the problems are due money, executive chef issues, or what? We had reservation and they made us wait 35 min for a table just to let us know that our table was still in use so they had to sit us in a separate place with no one else after it took them about 1o minutes to get us water, we felt forgotten. The food took a long time to get to the table. After we finished eating nobody would come to take the plates took another 15 for a waiter to come by. This is the probably the prettiest restaurant in Utah. Take a moment to take a walk around the property, just extremely beautiful. The ambiance is unlike anything else. Very romantic and cozy. Always request outside seating if the weather is nice. Service was wonderful and thoughtful. The evening became a bit cold at one point and they had no complaints of moving us inside. Little touches like candles, complementary amuse bouche, and various little peacocks strolling around made the evening very pleasant. We ordered the lobster bisque, which was nice, and the French onion soup. The onion was caramelized and sweet, delicious. We then ordered the Morgan Valley rack of lamb with a side of the Parmesan risotto and the pan seared beef tenderloin with a side of mashed potatoes. The food was really good, but I expected a little bit more. I feel like the chef could have put a little more love on those plates. The appetizers, amuse bouche, and bread served before the entree showed a bit more attention than the main course. Don't get me wrong, their food tastes delicious. We stayed at the place for about three hours, the atmosphere was incredible. WOW! Incredible food. Simply incredible. I came here with my girlfriend, who is French, for Valentine's Day and she was blown away! Everything is very authentic in style, from the food to the architecture to the decor. It was easy to get a reservation, and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Just a classy organization from top to bottom. We ordered nearly all of the appetizers (yes, including escargot), and they were all fantastic. I personally don't care for fois gras, but she hasn't stopped talking about how amazing it was. I personally had the Filet Mignon, and I can honestly say it's the best I've ever had (and I've had it in multiple countries). This is one of the most overpriced, overrated restaurants in the Valley. My wife and I went here with a coupon, believe it or not, and still walked out after shelling out too much money for dinner. I have to wonder if they're still trying to pay off the mortgage for the property in the foothills of Sandy by what they're charging. While the grounds and ambiance are beautiful, the food is lackluster and nothing really special. I've been here several times, but this was the first time I paid for it out of my pocket and haven't ever had worse buyer's remorse after eating there. The one bright note is that our server was very friendly and had very good table side manners. My suggestion, if you are even considering going to La Caille for anything, get dessert and get out. The wait staff looks like escapees from Pirates of the Carribean! Desserts come with sparklers on them!! I had heard this was the best restaurant in Utah, so I was tricked into going here 5 years ago when I moved to UT from CA. The food was HORRIBLE. I had pate for an appetizer, an elk steak for dinner, and some bananas foster nightmare for dessert. I was asked to go a second time, with a friend who had a Groupon. I have to say, it was better the second time. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The salad was okay. Our fish entree was very flavorful. But it was in no way good enough to warrant the price for our meal. If I can at all avoid it, I will never be back at this place. read more

La Caille has a reputation for being THE place in Utah for a special night out. That is why my best girlfriend and I talked our husbands into going there for a special Holiday meal. The drive up the private road to the restaurant was the best part. The Christmas decorations were really pretty. Everything was pretty much downhill from there. The service was not friendly, and I found their sexy wench outfits to be really distracting. The dining room (as well as the bathroom) is in real need of a remodel. Too many mirrors, ugly wallpaper peeling off, rusty sink, etc. The food was FAR from special, or even appetizing. My husband had the crab appetizer and it was rubbery and old-tasting. My dinner, the duck, was practically inedible. It was so chewy and bland I could barley get it down. The best part of my dinner was the pomegranate seeds surrounding the icky duck. The spinach salad was OK, but hardly worth the price. Our dessert, the crepes with ice cream, was totally freezer-burned. I expected a nice warm crepe, but was instead greeted by a hard, stale crusty thing wrapped around icy vanilla. We sent it back and got an irish coffee instead. It was overly sweet, but at least that came with a show (they light it on fire). Fortunately we went here with our best friends, so we still had a good time. When I saw the $250 bill (for just the two of us) I wished we had gone to Five Guys Burgers instead. What a waste of money!! Avoid this place. Ah ha! I found this place on yelp! Here is my review (as I put on the "La Caille" yelp page located in Sandy... which is its true location.) Apparently this place is all the rage in Utah! That's why I was expecting pure brilliance when I walked through the doors. I hate it when I'm disappointed. Few things to note on this place: -There will be crazy jungle animals crawling around you while you eat (okay what I mean is peacocks, roosters, and bunnies... kind of cute actually.) -The atmosphere has the same feel as a ride in Disney World: very intricate and themed but somewhat over the top. -They dress in medieval costumes. Kinda cheesy. Made me want kettle corn. -The menu items are RIDICULOUSLY priced. I was in physical pain the entire meal, anticipating the high numbers on my bill. -This place is supposed to be romantic, but I would be irritated if someone brought me here on a date. Very silly. The valet service here ruined a great night for me, I wasn't aware there would be forced valet, but took that in stride, I don't mind paying for valet, but I don't really like letting others in my car, so I usually avoid valet. Anyway I was informed there would be a $6 "house fee" the valet called it for the service. OK, whatever. This was my first time here and the place was great, hidden gem in salt lake. The food was a mix, some dishes amazing, others not much different than corner bakery. Then upon leaving I waited for the valet to retrieve my car, and pulled out the only cash I had, a $20. I said "can you just give me a $10 and you can keep the rest" feeling like $10 for 2 minutes of car retrieval was great pay. Well he complained to me and acted very put out, with a large audible huff and said "really, I'm not sure if I have that" then made a big scene as he tried to pull out some change while hiding his huge wad of cash from me. giving me first five and waiting to see if i still wanted the rest of my request. then he gave me another $5 while dropping a third $5 on the ground which i picked up for him. (showing that lack of change was not an issue) I'm not sure if $6 house fee plus $4 tip was an insult to the valet, but either way, big mistake. BIG MISTAKE. I probably won't return to La Caille for reasons completely unrelated to the food or dining experience. As you drive onto the grounds, you really feel that you are leaving Utah and entering a French estate. The grounds are beautiful and the building looks amazing against the mountainous backdrop. The interior does feel a bit contrived in that it feels built as a banquet hall. We found it odd that as you pull up for valet service, the first words we heard was that there is a 5 dollar fee for parking. Coming to a fine establishment, I would expect for the parking to be free, and tip the valet, so this seemed a bit tacky. As we were seated, a ticket was printed out to bring us to our table, which also felt a bit odd. Service was about par for the course. Bread came out far too late - right before our appetizers arrived. Wife ordered a Zinfandel, and the bar brought out a white zin, but we decided to go with it. My steak was overdone, and sent it back. The food was just below what we were expecting given its history, and the cost. We have been to La Caille several times for those special occasions when a premier dining experience is called for when visiting in Utah. Make no mistake this is one of the most amazing restaurants in the country; its 20 acres of landscaped wonders including deer, rabbits and peacocks. The building itself is a French chateau that offers very fine dining, buffets and memorable weddings. This place is truly a special occasion place because of the beautiful setting and the prices. Dinners are $30 to $50 and some expensive wines. Speaking of wines, La Caille has a remarkable selection even though it's in Utah with some very strange liquor laws and very tight controls. The food here is wonderful when it's a good night; in other words it can be inconsistent at times. Rack of Lamb, Lemon Thyme Brine chicken and duck are amazing. The croissants are really the best I've ever tasted. So, if it's a special occasion and you have a fat wallet just go and enjoy. I have been to La Caille many times over the years both professionally and personally. Professionally as a member of the hospitality community I have in the past recommended the restaurant to 100s of people through our relationships with meeting/event planners. I personally conducted many site inspections and for many years my recommendations were met by agreement with planners who used the restaurant. No more. They were always slightly overpriced for the quality and quantity of food but the service generally good and the grounds obviously very unique. My daughter had an event scheduled this evening and I as I will explain was beyond disappointed. To start the evening I arrived after my wife and daughter and took two cars as a result of a scheduling conflict. Upon entering the grounds the normal self-park lot was coned off. Hadn't seen that before but its dark and maybe they just resurfaced the lot. When I pulled up to the Valet I inquired as to why there was no self park tonight and I was greeted with lie #1. Lie #1. Head valet tells me he has worked there 5 years and it has always been that way. Umm, yeah but no. I asked to speak to a manager to tell him I didn't appreciate forced valet parking. I often use valets and I tip well when I do but on a cold night and amongst many people I prefer the time savings by getting my own vehicle. I also appreciate simply having a choice. Even luxury hotels give you the option of valet or self park. Lie #2 told by Todd the General Manager it wasn't he who was charging the fee but yet the valet service they contracted and he couldn't speak to lie #1 because the head valet wasn't his employee. Technically perhaps true but at best misleading. Lie #3 We don't allow self-park any longer due to insurance regulations. As a GM it is never good to lie to people, especially people that have brought you 100s of people to and through your restaurant. Lie #4 After the other lies didn't seem to work his story now became that I needed to address my complaint with the teacher from school as it was she who demanded valet only parking. The more you treat people with such unprofessionalism and disdain the more likely the are to never return and for certain people are more likely to stop recommending your restaurant. If Todd is the best La Caille has for management then the future for repeat meeting planning business is dim. If he can't solve a simple issue addressing forced valet parking how is he going to address a service failure? By lying? A simple I appreciate your feedback and I will talk to the owners regarding your comments and I would have been effectively placated. Onto the food. It was a set menu. A very limited set menu and they still had problems bringing food out in a timely manner to the tables. If you can't get a very simple fixed menu correct how do you expect a planner to believe you can do better for them? The escargot was delicious. The sorbet dished with a melon ball small spoon. The salad sparse on croutons, cheese and sported a mediocre dressing. Bread was sparse and at one time a basket for 8 diners at a table contained but one roll. The chicken entree was meh. Not bad but as keeping with La Caille tradition very small. The dessert was probably the most generous portioned course but even then the crepe had obviously been pre-frozen with the ice cream and the chocolate sauce was overly sparse. The wait staff overall did an ok job but had trouble keeping waters filled on the table. Finally, and this may seem petty but the school picked La Caille to teach children proper manners and dining etiquette. I've never been to an upscale restaurant that somehow is unable to purchase the correct silverware. Salad fork, dinner fork and dessert fork all the same size. When you have kids at the table asking what utensil they should start with I would generally tell them that you start from the outside in and that the salad fork is generally smaller than the dinner fork and the dessert fork generally smaller than either the salad or dinner fork. If Disney were to design and build a fantasy French farmhouse /chateau, this is it. When you drive through the gates to La Caille and travel along the brick road past vineyards, forests, and arrive at the restaurant you are truly in a fantasy land. I have been fortunate to see many beautiful restaurants in beuatiful settings, but La Caille tops my list. I seldom go to a restaurant just because of the setting or ambiance. I place the quality of the food way above the physical setting. La Caille is the exception to that rule. The food is mediocre at best. When you take into account the prices, which puts it off the charts compared to anything in the state, you start to feel you are being played for a sucker. They start you off with a menu of appetizers. Mostly traditional dishes but none will come close to meeting the expectations created. You are then presented with the main course menu. Once again a very traditional selection but also each falls short of expectations. It is frustrating that they have spent such money, resources and imagination to create this magical environment only to fall flat when it comes to the food. One other quibble I have is the way they dress the female food servers. They wear traditional French farm maiden clothing, with low cut blouses and with their breasts pushed up and out to such a degree it looks excruciatingly uncomfortable. Rather than titilate, the obvious discomfort of the servers makes me uncomfortable as well. I keep going back every year or two, hoping the food has finally matched the decor.
