I went with my wife and her family on a Sunday afternoon, the service from the server was great but however the food my wife ordered was cold and so was was her brother's food and the rest of our party. My food was acceptable because it was somewhat hot but the the tortillas took forever, and when I got them, they were cold. I don't know if I'll return to that establishment again. read more

Parking lot was packed! Big space inside. Food was very mediocre and the service was not very good. It was a Friday night for a friends birthday dinner because it is his favorite go to place. He swears by the seafood dishes. His fiancé, my wife and I had the carne asada. All 3 of us were equally disappointed. Loud music made conversation difficult. This past sunday, I went to La Canoa with a friend and her family for my friend's sister's birthday. The service was great, and the virgin pina coladas were great. However, the steak tacos with onion and cilantro weren't up to par, which is the least I could say. They were okay when I tasted them, but the tuesday after the experience was awful. Don't mind me, but I'm going into detail. I threw up at 6 am that morning, and fell back asleep. That day, I went to the mall with a friend, and it was not pretty. I threw up once in front of kay jewelers in a trashcan, once in a food court bathroom, once in a macy's dressing room, one in the food court bathroom hallway (I tried to get to the toilet but it was coming out.), and one in a hot topic plastic bag. I then threw up once in the car, and 8 more times in my house. I even puked in a restaraunt bathroom during a tasting for an event of mine the next day! I have had major diarrhea since that night. I visited the doctor and it turns out I have food poisoning from this restaraunt. Thank you, La Canoa, for the food poisoning and the unbearable pain my stomach has endured! I hope you are caught by the health inspector and shut down. I wish to receive a refund and an apology. Your food was terrible. I mean terrible. We always order raw oysters al natural and eat them with lime and Valentina sauce - the best! They serve different salsas and a fish ceviche with your chips while you wait for your order. First time here, came with a party of 9 and they didn't take long to seat us nor bring the food out. They had a great selection of food and a great selection of drinks. I am from the downtown area of Chicago and there is nothing like these over there. The menus are huge? Tvs all over, and a bar in the next room with karaoke nights some nights. I love Mexican food and grew up eating it. This place have impressive menu and people rave about it. It's quite expensive for an okay place. I'm fond of mole and was disappointed ordering their chicken mole. Not the best mole but it's a good portion size. I have yet to try their seafoods one day and hoping it's much better experience next time. Their quesadillas were very oily and kinda salty. WOW! Just a great find by pure luck. Authentic as can be, yes the start with chips and salsa, 4 3 different types and CEVICHE! not like the chain places at all. The menu covers Carne, pollo, Puerco(pork) and lots of seafood. Everything was scratch made and fresh. They have a bar that seemed really popular (we didn't go in but it was happening). A really fun and lively place to in Waukegan. We have had dinner here a couple of times now and I am in love with their seafood cocktails. We have ordered the Veracruzano cocktail twice now. It comes in a huge glass and is packed with shrimp, oysters and octopus, topped with avocado. This is a meal in itself. Hubby loves octopus, if I weren't sharing with him I would choose the option that is just the shrimp and oysters. I haven't settled on a main dish that I love yet but I haven't had a bad meal yet either. There are so many options on the menu that it is very difficult to know where to begin or what to choose. Service has been inconsistent. The first time we dined here we had a fabulous waiter. He was friendly and attentive. The second time our waitress was friendly enough but too busy. She disappeared for long periods of time. In the end we were almost late for our show because we couldn't find her to get the bill. read more

4 of us came here brand new to town and looking for some great mexican food. We were stunned by the gorgeous scenery in the restaurant! All of the walls and chairs are painted like and "under the sea" theme. The menus were thick and full of too many options that made it confusing to order. The salsa sampler they brought at the beginning was nice, I especially loved the ceviche! but all 4 of us ordered different dishes and agreed that they were just mediocre. My shredded beef tacos were very dry almost like the meat had been sitting out all day or something. The mexican rice had a strange flavor, not terrible, but different for sure. My husband's chicken burrito was ok, the chicken was in chunks with no flavor. The cheap prices of the meals made up for the decent food. You get what you pay for, but the atmosphere is very fun. If I could rate this place zero I would!! I waited 15 minutes to be greeted at the door and was told that there was a 20 minute wait. We then sat at the tables near the bar area and was told we needed to order from the bartender. The bartender then stopped another waiter to take our order. The waiter was very rude and we never saw her again the entire night. Everyone who was sitting at tables ordering food had complimentary chips. We did not receive any, our waiter was nowhere in sight so we asked another waiter. She did not speak english. She grab the security guard who then brought us chips and salsa. 20 minutes later our drinks came which tasted like syrup. 45 minutes later our waiter came with the food. My friend's plate had multiple pieces of hair on it. My food was disgusting. I had the pineapple seafood. We asked at least 4 employees to speak with the manger. 30 minutes later the manager STILL didn't come! We were ready to go so we waited for him at the door. HE NEVER CAME. So the bartender LOCKED us in the restaurant until we paid for a meal we DID NOT EAT. Just as I was going to call the police security unlocked the door and let us go. This was an AWFUL experience like nothing I have EVER experienced before. I will be filing a formal complaint with the police department for holding my friends and I against our will. I will also report this place to the better business bureau. I mean it was that bad!! We were the ONLY black customers in the restaurant and everyone else was being served. I will never be back to this restaurant ever again and will make sure everyone in the community knows how awful this restaurant treats customers who are not Latin. Disgusting!!! It was a party of 7 and we had the worst service ever. We waited for our food for about a hour and a half. Once we finally got the food, it was COLD! So we complained to our waitress and the manager gives us tequila shots and says he will give us a 15% discount on our bill. Once we got the bill there was no discount on there. They took about 30-40 mins to ring us up and only half of us ended up receiving the discount after we had to mention something that was promised to us. The food was tasty but the overall experience sucked. There were several parties that came after us and ate before us and left. There was one party that was bigger than ours that got their food, ate and left way before us. We were there from about 715p to 1050pm, way too long if you ask me.
