I don't understand how people rate this place so high on the food. I hardly saw any meat on my order and there was an up charge on my order. The hot sauce smelled rancid. How would I describe my experience for Tacos El Durango? This was the burrito I never wanted to end! I came in with high expectations from the ratings, and it doesn't disappoint. It may have been pricey since I ordered a Grilled Chicken Burrito, but I'm not kidding when I said this was the most flavorful burrito I've ever had! From the start, I placed an order over the phone the cashier was kind, accommodating, and overall gave a great service while being swift in the timing of the food. After picking it up, the establishment was clean, and small, giving me a little eatery to family restaurant vibes which I found cozy. After picking up my food I was ready to indulge myself to something I never expected. After unwrapping and from the first bite, i was stunned! The grilled chicken was seasoned tremendously, the toppings weren't lacking in that regard and the overall taste of my meal was outstanding. Every bite had crunch, and there wasn't much flaws nor a dull moment did I not enjoy what I was eating. If you're in the area, I'd be slightly weary of the price but everything is getting expensive. Love this place. The food is fantastic, the dining room is not open due to COVID . They do curbside pick up they took my card over the phone asked me the make of the vehicle and they bring it out they said my food would be ready in 14 minutes as soon as I pulled up they came out with the food.. I ordered lingua tacos their green sauce is amazing I ordered extra limes and I ordered chili Rellenos came with rice and beans and rice a few tortillas in a red sauce my son and I decided to order a an additional torta which was steak in the 20-year-old gobbled it up he said it was very good I'd highly recommend this place. The food is fantastic.I just wish they would give you a little more Langlois but the service is nice the family restaurant and the lengua is so tender. They are very fast in getting your food out. I wouldn't recommend them. As other reviewers posted, they are stingy with their portions. I ordered their carne asada chilaquiles the strip of meat for $19 was a joke. I tipped as well so this wasn't a being cheap issue. It's a poor customer service where the customer feels ripped off. I understand we are in difficult times but this will drive customers away. I have to agree with other reviews as well. Their flavors are lacking and their rice was terrible I left all of it minus the taste test. Beans are just soup like consistency. First off, this place is definitely set up more for to-go orders than dine in and there's no alcohol on the menu. So if you're looking for somewhere to sit and dine with drinks then pass this place up. The salsa is great, but it kind of stops there. I got the fajita mix and the chicken and steak were very dry and nothing really came with it to top them. They have one tiny tomato slice and a spot of sour cream about the size of a quarter. Located in a small plaza, this place is pretty delicious! The dining area is clean. There's no greasy smell or sticky tables and chairs. I always get a little grossed out when I'm walking into a restaurant and I can just see how little the tables has been cleaned. It makes me wonder how dirty the kitchen is. We ordered tacos ( chicken and bbq pork), chicken and cheese quesadilla, and steak tostadas. $12 ish. I really like the tacos I ordered. The chicken was very flavorful, shredded and easy to eat (as in, when you take bites, no big chunks of chicken come flying out of your taco). The taco was topped with shredded lettuce and tomato. The bbq pork was a tiny bit spicy for me. But it was filled with meat, shredded lettuce and diced onions. I opted out from cilantro and added some lime juice on both tacos. I gotta admit, it was pretty delicious!! My favorite out of the both is the chicken. My boyfriends quesadilla and steak tostadas was good as well. The quesadilla got a small crunch in them but the inside was still cheesy and soft. I could easily eat two of them. The steak tostada reminded me of my taco except it is flat and not folded. The crispness from the shell on the tostada complimented the sour cream, cheese and steak. What I didn't like was how salty the steak and shell was. I felt like I was eating chunks of salt. No Bueno :( I had to eat it with some white rice to balance the salt. I love how their food isn't overly greasy and it doesn't have a bad after taste after eating it. (The bad oil / fried taste...) All the items we ordered tasted fresh. If you're craving for Mexican food, I would recommend this place! This place is very good. The first thing that impressed me was how clean it was! The washrooms are through the kitchen kind of in a store room area so you get a great view of the entire operation. I mean to tell you EVERYTHING is spotless. Very impressive. The service is very friendly, attentive, and fast! Unfortunately the only reason I did not give it 5 stars was the food. Dive strip mall Mexican food with fantastic flavor and friendly service. I've had a number of dishes including fajitas in several styles which are always on point. The meat is decent quality and cooked well and they offer a number of meat options. The chili releno is bomb, as good as I've had at any burrito place, and the burrito suizo is filled full, smothered in cheese and broiled, and optionally topped with sauce. The burrito suizo is a dish I keep going back to - give it to me verde with steak or chili releno as the "meat" option. It's a knife and forker. This shop is family run and the family is always friendly. The kids work the front and the adults the kitchen - some nights the kids are balancing homework and serving tables. It's pretty awesome. The combination of service and delicious food have us coming back over and over for a convient and affordable dinner or lunch. read more

We had some last minute takeout from here yesterday and there's a couple key things that stood out. The firsts: They're very quick! It was 15 minutes to closing and they still took our order, it was ready within 10 minutes, bravo! Presentation for takeout was also nice, nothing slopped together, thank you. The seconds: Food was a solid 3 outta 5, there was a very thin coating of cheese that topped our chicken enchiladas which could have been more but there can always be more cheese so I'll let it slide. On the inside was chicken with nothing else, I wouldn't say they were dry but they definitely needed sauce, which was also barely present. Lengua tacos were decent, slightly chewy but still tender. Johnny Bravo asked me if I wanted red or green sauce upon picking up the order and I said green/verde so as not to confuse the guy. I asked for extra sauce for the tacos and Johnny Bravo who was putting my order in the bag stated he already put sauce in there. I said well, I'd like extra sauce and his response was "You want MORE sauce"? His response was slightly exaggerated but I responded with yes, I would like more sauce. He asks how many so I said I'd like 4 more containers because I had ordered 4 tacos and he repeats 4 MORE?? as to imply like I was asking for a free plate of food or something. So, I took our order back to work to enjoy and what's this?! 4 green sauces and 4 RED sauces. I was pretty clear that I didn't want red sauce too but JB was too concerned with me getting anything extra rather than helping the customer with their request. The worst part is, there wasn't even enough sauce in the 4 containers of green that we did receive. All of them had the same amount in them and honestly, it was a pathetically small amount, not enough to enjoy the food that desperately needed it. JB had some serious negative energy and attitude which was deflected slightly by the gentleman that rang me up, who told him it was okay and to put it in the bag. I'd give the place a second chance because the chicken in the enchiladas had a nice flavor however, I wouldn't care to come back any time that Mr. Bravo is working the counter. This is a small family owned business hidden in a strip mall next to the overpass. The restaurant is clean and the the atmosphere is friendly. We called in our order this week and it was brought out to the car , we found a remote parking spot and dug in. We're in a taco rut. We keep going to the same places, hoping for a different result. Enter: Tacos El Durango. We popped in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and found the place largely empty, which was concerning. We grabbed a table, though, and were immediately brought chips and salsa. The salsa was a little thinner than I would generally prefer but was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The chips were fresh, too, which doesn't seem to be the case at most places we frequent. We each ordered a taco dinner, which comes with rice and beans. I largely ignored those (I usually do). The tacos were great. The meat was seasoned or marinated well. Service was consistently good. I wish their hours were more conducive to coming here for dinner. read more

GURNEE GEM We drove by and noticed this cute little restaurant from the road so we decided to check it out on Yelp and were amazed with the great reviews. We decided to bookmark it and return on our next trip through the area. Fast forward to that day... We had just finished at Six Flags and we were looking for food. Luckily our bookmark was waving at us when we opened the Yelp app. When we walked in we found that half of the tables were taken which is a great sign. I also loved at how clean the restaurant was. A nice young man took us to our table. I could tell that he was probably one of the children of the owners. It's a different feel when a young kid is working at a place that they don't care about. This kid actually had a great heart and no teenage attitude. I decided to order the Steak Burrito Suizo. I asked for the hottest sauce on top and they didn't disappoint me. Wow was it spicy but delicious. I think I shocked the family who owns this place because I loved it. They probably thought I couldn't handle it. I'm trained in taking the heat. Eight years ago I would have probably crawled into a corner to die after eating this but not anymore. The young boy checked on me a couple of times. I think he was impressed with how I took down the spicy burrito beast and was still alive. We also got just a regular steak burrito not covered in cheese and sauce. Which was tasty but I was in such love with my choice nothing else would have tasted good to me. We also orders a kids meal which was a deal at only $3.99. It included an enchilada, rice, beans & a juice box. Score! I am also so lucky that my little one eats everything except for spicy but she does give it a try followed by a glass of water. She wants to eat spicy so bad like us. I just keep telling her in time she will get use to it. Before we left we went back by the kitchen and spoke with Jesus the owner. He was such a great guy. I had to tell him how much I loved the spicy sauce. He then showed me all of the different kind of salsas he had. I had so much fun talking food with him. I even shared some of my salsas I make at home with him. I learned that his place is a family affair and I love to hear that. I grew up in a family business so I get it. You work hard together and it pays the bills and gives the family a shot at a better tomorrow. It is amazing how successful Jesus has been and he never has taken out advertising yet. Word of mouth can still drive a business as long as you keep delivering quality food with great service. I can hardly wait to come back here. If you visit Six Flags or go shopping at Gurnee Mills then take a drive over here for some fantastic food. You will be glad you did. Don't eat that overpriced & fake food in the park. I am so happy my fiance and I decided to come stop in here on a whim to give it a try. We just moved from Southern California - where authentic Mexican food can be found everywhere. Since moving to IL, we tried many places and just could never find a Mexican restaurant quite as close to the kind we got in SoCal. After eating here, we finally found a great Mexican restaurant just like back in CA. First thing you'll notice is that is the place is spotless. Seriously, its clean all around and one of the cleanest restaurants i've ever stepped foot in. We were served by a lady (possibly one of the owners), who was very nice. One of the best service experiences i've seen in a small restaurant like this. The food was excellent. if you eat there they bring out a small basket of chips and salsa (enough for two to snack on) which were good. We ordered a burrito suizo (which is basically a burrito topped with melted cheese) and the nachos. It was absolutely delicious. The burritos even come with beans and rice on the side, which I find a lot of places in IL don't offer. I will definitely come back here. In fact, this might be the only Mexican restaurant i'll ever visit in the area. I love to support local businesses like this that dish out delicious food and service at a good price. I highly recommend you give this place a try, especially if you're in the food mood for an epic Mexican meal. P.S. It's great for Vegetarians too.
