Visited this place with my husband on a whim. We weren't too hungry, but we each ordered a steak tacos to try. We each also had a margarita. While waiting a long time for the two tacos to be made, we were given a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. I thought the chips tasted great, but something in the salsa was over-powering. The steak tacos arrived at our table with a side of beans and rice. The tacos and beans were bland, and the rice was mushy. Margaritas were average. Service: Okay. The restaurant had few people visiting when we dined in so we were seated promptly. A guy would often come around and ask if everything was okay. Had a family get together there and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We all had several different dishes with only minimal complaints. I ordered the guac n chips which was delicious and chicken taco dinner. The tacos were very good but the beans and rice didn't taste fresh. While shopping at Gurnee Mills we stopped for lunch at Lola', and I am so glad we did! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a cute, young lady with a fun demeanor that took us to our table. We stopped by Lola's after a long morning of shopping and we were starving. It's a very cute restaurant and the staff is so nice and friendly. We immediately had chips and salsa which were very good! We had a hard time deciding what to order, because the prices were so incredibly high. We ended up not getting our first choices, because we couldn't justify paying $24-$28 for a lunch. We both ordered the chopped salad. The chicken was really yummy, but the rest of the salad didn't really do it for me. There was a "cilantro dressing" which I assumed was going to be a creamy cilantro dressing, but it really just tasted like someone had squeezed a lime over my salad and the flavor was a little overwhelming. The ceviche? It was 95% some whitefish that was so soft I'm surprised it held its shape. We ate a few bites then picked out the few random pieces of shrimp. We should have returned it after the first bite. Sam's Club offers a better version. The nachos? Canned cheese (!), a ground beef mixture, a few random pieces of lettuce and even fewer pieces of anemic tomatoes, topped with a crap ton of black olives, a sprinkling of cotija cheese, and jalapenos. With a glob of sour cream and tasteless guac. It was barely above 7-11 nachos (and I think 7-11 might be better because it's nacho cheese--I think this was just plain cheddar cheese). It was good. My dining companion and I worked up an appetite walking around Gurnee Mills and stopped in for a quick nosh. We could have filled up on the chips and salsa, but wanted to try the tacos and an appetizer. We started out with the shrimp cocktail appetizer. I think there were eight fresh, medium shrimp bathing in a tomatoey soup. I enjoyed it. Dining companion was overwhelmed with the tomatoieness (if there is such an adjective). I tried a coconut tequila cocktail and it was good, but a bit on the small side for the price. Dining companion enjoyed the al pastor Taco. I enjoyed the steak taco and a pork taco. Decided to stop by Lola's on a weeknight for a quick dinner. This place is located inside Gurnee Mills. Decent crowd on a weekday. Our waitress was super sweet and nice. But wasn't able to answer a few food questions we had on the menu. We decided to order 1 Al Pastor taco and 1 Carnitas taco and also a Ranchero Steak Entree. None of us finished our food. It was very disappointing. Mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the money. Overpriced and food was not good at all. Doesn't taste like it's freshly made. The Ranchero steak was over cooked. Hard to chew. Had two bites and nobody wanted to eat it . I did like the Carnita taco. It had good flavor. However, the Al Pastor was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting it. The pork was very mush. Tasted like leftovers. The pineapple was not fresh at all. The flavors did not compliment each other. $4.50 for that? It was REALLY BAD. It was worse than a Taco Bell taco :( The rice and beans were not good either. Not authentic at all. Beans didn't taste freshly made. The rice lacked a lot of flavor. Again, worse than Taco Bell... I'm not sure how this place got good reviews lol overpriced and worst than homemade Mexican food. I hardly leave one star reviews but it was a very disappointing meal and definitely not worth $50. Maybe they are known for their drinks? But I wouldn't recommend this place for food. There's better places nearby that are cheaper and taste 10000 times better! Lola's Tacos and Tequila is a Mexican Restaurant in the Gurnee Mills outlet mall. I was a little biased about this restaurant at first, because it replaced Chicago Woodfire Pizza Co. (former restaurant before them) which was very good. Nevertheless, I decided to give Lola's a try. Upon entering, there's a ton of fun decor, and outside decorations and lights on the trees and in the vestibule as well. Our waitress was very friendly & gave us complimentary chips and salsa before our entrees came out. We had the Mexican Chopped Salad & the Sizzling Shrimp Diabla- both were very good. The Shrimp has a very nice kick to it, if you enjoy spicy food I think you'll really enjoy that meal. I didn't check Yelp! before coming, but I'm honestly surprised at the low ratings in the reviews (but I did not try any margaritas). The only thing I didn't like was the beans - it just didn't taste very fresh/hot when they came out while the other food did. The steak is nicely marinated, tender and not overly seasoned. The fish is crispy delicious. As to the price, realize this is a full scale restaurant and not a drive thru. After a long day of shopping my son chose Lola's. Amazing decision. We got the sweetest welcome from our waitress, Parcilla. Bubbly, outgoing amazing personality! We ordered carne asada, steak ranchero and Lola's enchiladas with green sauce. The flavors were so good, steak was so tender. Our drinks were always full. The streak Taco meat was so tender I'm usually a green salsa type of girl but I mixed both on my taco and it taste so good. The watermelon Margarita was absolutely phenomenal.
