La Capital was a great dinner stop--just wish we'd had more time to fully enjoy it. We popped in on a bit of a time crunch on our way to a Lucha Libre show, so we had to skip several tempting dishes marked on the menu as taking longer to prepare. That said, I really appreciated how clearly those items were labeled--it set expectations upfront and made ordering easier given our schedule. The space itself is beautiful with an open, airy ambience that immediately sets the tone. We were started off with complimentary crispy tortillas served with both red and green salsas--a simple but very welcome touch. For food, my kids ordered the lime soup and the penne al chipotle, both of which they really enjoyed. My husband and I went for the tortas: he chose the Bacalao a la Veracruzana and I had the Cangrejo de Concha Suave. Both were delicious, with a unique twist on the classic flavors. My husband also had a cocktail that he loved. Overall, a solid experience with great food and atmosphere. This is definitely a place I'd return to when I can slow down and savor it properly. read more

So nice we came twice on a short 5 day trip just so we could try the rest of what we didn't order the first time! The first time we came in shortly before closing but they were more than accommodating and sat us down right away. This is a fine dining experience and it is really cool to be able to watch the kitchen and chef at work from your table. I can highly recommend the Guac- love the little touch of pomegranate and the variety of chips to dip, the chicken lime soup was a hit with our 1.5 year old, the beet salad was delicious and the sea bass cooked to perfection. For mothers day I treated myself to a house margarita and it was delish. We also tried not one but two desserts this time, the chocolate cake with ice cream and the soursop jelly, both divine! I was excited having just learned about the soursop fruit, and how many nutritional benefits there are- make sure you give it a try if you're into pudding desserts. The next time we tried some of the same things and some new things- steak, roasted chicken, cauliflower with mole sauce (the mole sauce here was perfection) mushroom soup and the house lemonade. All fantastic, and the presentation is wonderful. We ended the evening with the hot chocolate cake which was the perfect balance of chocolate paired with ice cream- note that this dessert does take some time to prepare fresh. We tried two different cocktails and they were so delicious and strong! The elote salad we chose for our appetizer was so fresh, acidic, and had such a nice variety of textures. We were immediately seated and our server was very nice. He offered some great recommendations. The kitchen is an open concept so you can see the chefs in action as they prepare beautiful dishes. The food is also the star of the show. Their menu is a modern, contemporary take on Mexican food. Each dish was beautifully plated. Portions were generous. Our food arrived very quickly. We started with some tuna tostadas. They tasted so fresh and delicious. We next had a ceviche with cucumbers and shrimp. Another stellar dish with a nice blend of citrus and spice. For our last dish we ordered the pulpo a la brasa (grilled octopus). The octopus was perfectly cooked and very tender with a rich smoky flavor. I also had an El Jarrito mezcal cocktail that was so refreshing with a nice fruity, citrus blend. I also saw some of the other dishes other guests were ordering, and they all looked so good. Good food but honestly I've had so much better at other low brow places. If you want a nice fancy place to chill then this place is it. Many dishes are certainly "instagramable" due to the sauce but overall it was one of our weakest dinners in CDMX. I ordered the duck enchiladas and if you told me they were chicken I wouldn't have corrected you. My mom had ceviche which as ok. My dad actually enjoyed his pasta (!). The drinks were ok. The most comical thing was the service, we were actually avoiding moving anything (even repositioning a napkin) on our table, because the waiter would run over and start removing or replacing things. Dark lighting, upstairs restrooms over looking the entire dining area, and a large open kitchen. I loved the vibes, and the people inside were very nice looking. Food-SPECTACULAR!!! The food was on another level, the guac was the best I've ever had. Yes, Guac can be amazing! This guac has a green sauce that brought an amazing flavor out, it was accompanied by pomegranates and Serrano peppers. The Chile Nogada was perfect, a dinamo of flavors from salty to sweet to crunchy, simply amazing. The Chocolate Cake with ice cream took our mouth to the twilight zone. This dessert literally was a party in my mouth. A meal to dream over. Reasonably priced and delicious. Award worthy, in my humble opinion. Get the mole.

We made reservations, ate outside in the terrace. My partner and I sat right next to each other, as we typically do at nice restaurants. We didn't receive any menus until 10 minutes after being seated. We only received a drink menu at first, 5 mins after being seated. 5 minutes after we received our drinks, 10 minutes after ordering them, we received food menus. The drinks were great - we both had Lychee Vodka drinks. We ordered water after receiving the drinks, but the waiter didn't bring it until 15 minutes later and instead went around cleaning tables and giving other parties water. When the waiter came to take our order, I asked him "¿Donde estan nuestros agua?" (where are our waters?) And he took 5 more minutes getting our waters and then took our orders. We finally received some tostadas and salsa. The food came out. No one ever asked how the food was. We had to ask for the check from the manager who was walking around, no one asked us if we had finished our food, despite our plates being empty for 10 minutes, and the manager saw the plates were empty and directed our terrible waiter to clean off our tables. We received our check 10 mins after requesting it. The waiter had the audacity to say "¿Típ?" Spoiler alert - we didn't tip. The food was great, but I don't see the hype, as the horrific customer service killed it for us. I have a hypothesis, because we noticed that each and every other table around us was receiving quick service, but we didn't. Maybe it was because we were two men sitting side by side at dinner? Maybe the waiter had some homophobia issues? Who knows? All I know is that we won't be returning. read more

Loved this Condesa gem. Located in the cuauhtemoc, district not far from the museum of anthropology. Dinner for two on Feb. 20, 2024. We were greeted and immediately whisked to our reserved table. We started with two Mexcal drinks and an order of cerviche and the tacos la Capital. Both appetizers were wonderful. Ordered a second round of drinks and ordered our msin courses. Wifey opted for the flautas from the appetizer menu. I ordered the sea bass in cucumber sauce. Both dishes were to die for. We somehow made room for 3 to four bites of the corn cake (Brulee de elote) for dessert. I only wish we wouldnt have been so full as the flavor was unlike any other dessert that i have had. The cake and the ice cream were a perfect pairing. We would definitely eat here again. La Capital begins as this imposing large building with heavy tall doors that lead you into the reception area. Immediately you are greeted by loud lively conversations in this warehouse-like non-noise-dampened building. While this adds incredible energy to the dining experience, I certainly preferred the secluded outdoors patio instead. It was very cosy, cute, small, and almost felt like an entirely different place. The menu is vast by any standard, which creates some suspicions. When we began ordering the guac, cochinita pibil, cebiches, etc. everything was superbly fresh and tasty. The octopus, chile en nogada, chicken breast were equally impressive where the chile took the helm of most impressive dish. The entire dining experience was superbly attentive, with impeccable service and dishes that were coming out stronger and stronger. The palette can get overwhelmed by this fancy explosion of delicious flavors, and we were so honestly impressed that we choose to add a couple of desserts and test the boundaries of this restaurants. And La Capital oddly delivered again. I really felt this restaurant experience took the top spot among all places I visited in the city, and I will happily return again. read more

We didn't have plans to come here when we did, but our original target had a long wait, so we stopped by here, and it ended up being an extremely pleasant surprise. The food was incredible, service was great, and the dining experience overall was fantastic. The lamb was tender and flavorful, and was perfect with the suggested pairing of red wine. My friend ordered the short ribs, which were also very good. There was definitely a debate at the table as to which was better - lamb or short ribs. Their cocktails are subtle (not too sweet) and unique. We ordered a passionfruit mezcal drink, which was lovely. More of a date night place, low lighting, sophisticated menu items, but we were on vacation and came with a group of family and friends, including a 4 year old and an 8 month old, and it was still a great experience. I did not like my entree unfortunately because of the texture more than anything but it was still created by a Master chef! The guacamole was nothing short of ordinary. It was particularly spicy but not too much, had fine herbs that tasted wonderful and possibly pomegranates. It was wonderful and the chips that came with it also! I tried the Tortilla soup which was more than excellent. The best tortilla soup i ever tasted! And so presentable ! Like a piece of art! My mom had ceviche, which she also confirmed was fantastic and a very healthy portion. We then each had yet another course.. ha ha ha.. I had the mushroom ravioli . I was in fact very disappointed because it was more like a soup and it was too soggy for my taste so i could not eat it however i give the chef a pass. My mom had a white fish wrapped in bananas that she said was exceptional! It looked like it also! I dont know how we found space for desert but we did. We shared panacota a guanaba i think and the red fruit were the best part. They tasted magical! My cappuccino was ok. Omg! And i almost forgot!! They make these green lime/ginger lemonades that are TO DIE FOR! And last but not least, the server was ON TOP OF IT! He was extremely attentive and always around. Very professional! We have had many enjoyable dinners on our visit to Mexico City, but tonight's dinner was the best. Jose, our server took excellent care of us and was very helpful in explaining the items on their extensive menu. My wife and I each had the Ahi Tuna dinner that was beautifully presented as a work of art, and the flavors a gastronomic treat. The fish was seared to perfection with a sweet chili sauce and served with purée potatoes in a charred onion, a grilled tomato slice and spinach capped with a pinch of salt. For desert, we split the Pastel de Chocolate that was a warm chocolate volcano with vanilla ice cream served on a bed of raspberry/chili sauce. If in the Condesa area, this is a restaurant that is worthy of a visit. But be patient as food of this quality can't be rushed. read more

Simply amazing meal! Service and food was tremendous. I was a bit concerned since my Spanish skills are not great but the staff here can speak English if you are feeling a bit shaky with your español We started off with drinks - I got the Jarrito (Highly recommended!) which is made with a smoky mezcal, mango purée, orange and lime juices. It was not very strong, but absolutely delicious, very unique cocktail which I will probably be making at home if I can find the correct mezcal :). My gf got the frozen tamarindo cocktail, which was also tasty. These are quite nice if you like sweet drinks, as we do. For a starter, we got the cochinita pibil, which is a traditional dish of marinated pork which is cooked in banana leaves. I believe the pork was braised here. This is served with tortillas, so it's a pretty fun "build your own taco" meal. It's also served with a green habanero sauce, which was actually quite mild, but flavorful, as well as a little side of "Xnipec", which is a traditional dish of pickled and flavored red onions. Also some orange slices which you can use. Very interesting - the dish is also served with "Corn Ash", I'm not sure how they make it but you are encouraged to sprinkle some on the taco to give it a smoky taste. Honestly, some of the best tacos I've ever had! For entrees, we decided to share two dishes, which are the more popular dishes of the restaurant: "Chiles en Nogado", which a like a stuffed chili with beef Picadillo(ground meat) served with pomegranate seeds and covered with a creamy sauce. I couldn't really make out what was in the cream sauce, although I felt a hint of coconut, so maybe it was coconut cream? This dish was sweet, and we enjoyed it quite a bit. The other nice thing was you could eat the pomegranate seeds! They were not crunchy or hard on the teeth. Maybe they used a young pomegranate? I just found it pretty nice that we could eat all the pomegranate seeds without breaking our teeth, which doesn't seem to be the case when buying one in a US supermarket? The last dish we had was the duck in rolled taco shells served in a black mole sauce which was garnished with a colorful pattern of crema (liquidy Mexican sour cream). I'm not a big fan of mole, honesty, as it tends to be one dimensional and too sweet when I have it -but I quite liked this one. There was a nice depth of flavor with it, a good mix of the sweetness from the dark chocolate and savory element from the cheese, sour cream, and other components of the mole. The only downside I would say is that the interior of the duck taquitos were not as tasty as I expected - the dish was said to have duck confit - but it tasted like typical shredded chicken to me, I was expecting bigger chunks of duck, and it had the taste as if it was maybe re-heated - kinda that flavor when you re heat dark meat chicken the next day. I think I would have preferred if they grilled or sautee the duck instead - or maybe if it was less dry, as the pulled pork dish (cochinita pibil) was absolutely succulent compared to this filling. However this does not really detract from the overall experience as the other dishes were so phenomenal We finished with 2 house margaritas - they were refreshing and had an acidic citrus bite. Great food all around! We will definitely come back. If you are in Mexico City for travel or for any other reason this place is a must visit I think! read more

To eat we ordered the guacamole and chips (sweet potato, potato, banana and some other chips), pulpo a las brasas, chile en nogada, and pechuga de pollo en costra de ceniza. The Guacamole and pulpo get the full five stars. The pulpo was so tender and flavorful! The pechuga de pollo was very dry and lacked flavor. The Chile en nogada was too sweet for my taste. The sweetness was overwhelming. We ordered 4 different cocktails. Our favorite was the mojito and traditional margarita. We tried a couple of their specialties (gin la capital and another) and they were just OK. The service is 5-stars! Our server was outstanding. Great ambiance and chill place!
