First, I will say the service was great. They were super attentive and friendly. The highlight was definitely the design of the bar from the wallpaper to the original ceilings. The food was a bit of a twist on traditional Mexican cuisine and I almost wished they would have tried to be less original. I would go back but order different items. The coconut flan was delicious!

Good atmosphere. Music isn't too loud. It could use a little more lighting. Service is decent but doesn't interfere with the quality of the food. The salsas were amazing; we put it on everything we ordered. It's a hidden gem in downtown Mexico!

    Tartare and ceviche.

Excellent food and service. We tried the ceviche and tartare - both had nice infusion of lime and people who are scared of tartare will still like this. We had 4 different kind of tacos and the pork belly, Al Pastor were excellent. Al pastor has large quantity of meat. Cocktails were also excellent. This is the door leading up the stairs next to the pizza place.

Excellent service. Great appetizers and the tacos are all delicious. Had 4 of their tacos, and chicharron and guacamole appetizer. Drinks were tasty.

Authentic food place. Nice ambience inside a historic building. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. A great place for drinks and a few bites or even a full dinner.

My boyfriend and I were trying to find a ceviche place nearby. We came across this place and were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance of the restaurant and the quality of the food. The service was great as well.

My husband and I had a beautiful dinner at Mata for our last night in Mexico City. Had we tried it earlier in our visit, we would have returned another evening. It was our best meal in Mexico, even though it was not the most expensive. Every food item was served beautifully and was delicious, like a high-end place. Our cocktails were especially well-made, with clear ice cubes that added a special touch. Our waiter was very sweet and had good suggestions. Don't miss it!

amazing food, some of the best we had during our trip, and the best service, too. the ceiling in the dining hall is absolutely gorgeous and going for dinner just to see it alone would have been worth it. we got a lovely table near a balcony and our waiter was warm and very helpful. if youre in centro, go here!

In Mexico City for the 1st time, Here for 5 days, came to Mata twice!! Can't recommend enough! Great cocktails, get the oasis, get a few, the shaken Margherita as, well! Make sure to ask to sit in the 18th century parlor with the original wall coverings and amazing ceiling! We sat at the window both night! We tried the frijoles meneado to start (fancy beans) AmAZiNg! Beat Salad with chili's and goat cheese, soooo good!, Soup tortilla, a little presentation all ingredients in the bowl, then poured the broth over separately, perfectly hot!!

So delicious, we hit this place up on a food tour and it was amazing. Top of my list when we come back.

Lace was kind of hard to fine but I happy I found it. No one but myself to the whole place .... Covid plus Tuesday not very busy. Chips were brought out with 3 salsas. The green was my favorite. The tacos !!!!! Ordered the bone marrow and the pork belly. Bone marrow were ok , kind of weird the way they were made. The pork belly OMG!!! After 6 tacos I'm about to order another 3 pork belly.

This place is perfect, and I'm so glad we stumbled upon it! We even came back the next night! It might be the best sangria I've had (the white sangria is good, but the red is next level!). Beautiful setting, amazing staff who are ready with recommendations and are so friendly. The torta ahogada is AMAZING. We also loved the mere ceviche, the coconut flan, and the roasted sweet plantains.

    Shrimp tempura tacos! Super delicious

Perfect quiet place in the chaos of the Centro. Only 3 window seats, so luck plays a part. But the food is super!

So Mexico City is a city that is truly a foodie's paradise-One can't throw a rock without hitting…read morea Michelin rated restaurant. Another thing this city has is very inexpensive spots you can eat, like pop ups or stands that serve such high quality food at very cheap prices. The third thing I found about this city is where this restaurant fits in-They have restaurants that are historic, that opened over 100 years ago-Cafe de Tacuba fits in that category, having opened in 1912. This restaurant is located in Centro Historico-just a few blocks from Zocalo. Its location is a very busy touristy part of Mexico City. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait, but once we walked in it was obvious why as it was truly a work of art in there. The walls were adorned with amazing paintings and murals and interior designs elements that transported you back to Mexico in the 1950s and earlier. It was gorgeous. I don't want to call it a fancy place with all the stigma that sometimes represents but it was a fancy place without all the stuffiness of a fancy place. It was a very warm and welcoming place to dine at. There was a lady walking around with a platter full of conchas and churros that one could indulge in while waiting their main meal. I had to get a churro-it was so delicious. We also got chicken tortilla soup-it was so rich and tasty with the perfect blend of Mexican seasonings. I had a pretty good cafe con leche as well-you could really taste the high quality coffee beans they use in their coffees compared to what I'd been getting all trip in the streets. Now when you visit this restaurant and you could only try one dish-that dish begins and ends with Enchiladas Tacuba(355 pesos/$20.35) That's what I got and it was awesome. Its basically a chicken enchilada dish with a creamy spinach based sauce topped with cheese-flavor bomb to the fullest. 9.5/10 Item I wouldn't clarify this as an inexpensive meal compared to other places we visited in Mexico City, but I would call this place an incredible dining experience where one can just feel the importance of the building one is having this meal. Heck Diego Rivera had his wedding reception here in 1922. I for sure would recommend anyone who has the pleasure of visiting Mexico City, must add Cafe de Tacuba to their itinerary-it's such a rich experience.

The tamales and chilaquiles verdes con huevos y bistec were okay. The tamales were a little dry,…read morewhile the chilaquiles verdes con huevos y bistec were bland and could have used more seasoning. Customer service could be improved, as it was hard to get a hold of our waiter at times. All in all, worth visiting for the ambiance, but the food did not match the experience.
