There were so many choices of delicious flavors that it was difficult not to order all of them. The staff are very friendly and let you sample whatever you like. My favorites are amarena (black cherry), stracciatella (chocolate chip), and lemon. They have a bench inside that can seat about 4, and another one outside the door. Came here twice today (different sites - in S. spirito and across the river) based on raving online reviews and disappointed with the quality and flavors each time. Overhyped for sure. To be fair I can't eat dairy, so settled for the limited, basic bitch sorbet flavors, i.e. fruits, dark chocolate fondant. I don't recommend dark chocolate despite that being my go to usually. It tastes artificial, as do most of the sorbet flavors. They do have some interesting dairy flavors such as mascarpone with figs and ricotta with pears. I tried a little bit of mascarpone with figs and it tasted too sweet and like caramel sauce. Pros? Friendly, English speaking service. Unlimited tastings. We were told by our hotel concierge that if we wanted the best ice cream in town, we had to come to La Carraia. He said it was different that anything we've tried up to that point and that it was amazing. Well, it was good, was it THE best... no. I prefer the more sherbet type gelato we've had ip until that point. The ice cream served here is smooth, and creamy, I got coconut, crema, and yogurt with nutella, and other than the actual nutella, all three flavors tasted the same, I could not tell them apart. The taste is very subtle. I like a party in my mouth, and this was just a relaxed stroll in the park. It is certainly a place to try. There was a line, and since is in the corner of the Carraia bridge, there is no outside sitting, there are benches in the store and you can sit on the window sill outside, or just get a cone and walk. All the reviews don't lie. This gelato is DYNAMITE. It was so good that we came back two nights in a row, despite having a long list of other gelaterias we wanted to try in Florence. My first night I got pistachio white chocolate and ricotta and pear, both of which were wonderful. My husband got both pistachio and hazelnut, and he was in nutty bliss. This was his first ever real Italian gelato, and he was blown away by the explosion of flavors. The next night, I got the cheesecake and the chocolate mousse. The cheesecake was perfect and tasted more like cheesecake than actual cheesecake does. The chocolate mousse was intense and a little too sweet for me. The texture is exactly like mousse and not at all like gelato, so it wasn't what I was expecting, and this is probably the only flavor I wouldn't order again. My husband got the fior di latte, which he found brilliant in its simplicity, and the chocolate hazelnut which was his favorite flavor out of all of them. The prices are very reasonable. I don't think we paid more than a couple of euros each for our gelatos. The location is perfect, right next to the Ponte alla Carraia, so you can sit along the bridge, enjoy some of the best gelato in Florence, and take in the views of the city. It's the perfect way to end a night as far as I'm concerned. I wish we could go back every night! read more

After spending a month tasting gelato throughout Europe, I can easily say that this is by far my FAVORITE gelato shop. While the line is long, it moves quickly. There are enough flavors to please any palate, and enough sizes to fit any budget. I enjoyed a small Orange Cream / White Chocolate Pistachio and it was SO GOOD. I usually don't even like creamsicles or white chocolate (I usually dread the stuff) but hey, I was on vacation so I had to try new things! We awakened the kiddo from her post flight nap and tortured her with another jaunt around town. It was much cooler and the sunset was worthy of several photos so there was less complaining. We also promised her a gelateria as a destination point. Romeo directed us across a bridge and to a popular corner at which we found La Carraia. The kiddo was in heaven! La Carraia offers an extravaganza of flavors from the traditional chocolate to fruit & cream. She, of course, opted for chocolate, which was dark and rich. I can't imagine how amazing their dark chocolate flavor is after tasting the kiddo's cone. I chose a cup with two flavors: a vanilla with chocolate wafer and a panna cotta with chocolate and orange. Both were light a luscious. There were so many flavors from which to choose. But the selling point for a return visit is that the kiddo gave it two thumbs up and said it was creamier than 'the other place' near Ponte Vecchio. So we will be returning for another chocolate cone for her and a tasting of other flavors for the adults tonight. The shop is popular with a line that extends outside. Came here with my group of travelers on my way out of the city. You can get here just after crossing over Ponte Vecchio so it's not too far out of the way. While in the city I saw small cones going for €4 but here you pay €1.50. The real difference is Gelateria La Carraia doesn't make gigantic displays with the gelato here. It really would be a waste if they did since they go through gelato so fast. You don't lose any quality in flavor and they don't rip you off here with each dish being served with 2 flavors. The only mistake I made here was getting a fruity gelato over a milkier one. The cheesecake with berries was delicious but I'm more of a chocolate or nut fan.
