If I could give them a zero i would. They took a very long time to make the tacos. So many women working but slower than turtles. Then after getting my tacos they were so cold not even warm. Wouldn't go back. Came here once ordered 4 carnita tacos. Parking lot is crazy. Some guy pulled up squeezed between two cars and scratched up a car. He seemed drunk. He reversed and just drove away. Crazy. We saw the ladies making the tortillas which I can appreciate and props to them but that is all that was good. We ending waiting about 40min and so disappointed when we got our tacos. LISTEN!!!! This place is shady!! check your receipts! When you pay check the amount they are charging! This past weekend they charge me $108 for two quesadillas in four tacos. When I went back to dispute the matter with them with proof, they still were hesitant about paying me back. When all was said and done, they sent my money back but then charged me $32.00 for the food I purchased, which was still an overcharge. You cannot tell me two quesadillas and four tacos cost $32.00 And just to make a point if my order was $32.00 how did they punch in $108 on the sale it doesn't add up if they accidentally added an extra zero it would've been $320 catch my drift it was not an accident!!!!! Stopped at La Carreta de mi Tierra on our way to Portland and wow, the food is amazing! The tacos and militas are 100% authentic with hand made corn tortillas and a variety of salsas and extras like cucumber, radish, onion etc. My sister ordered a burrito and it was delicious as well. The place itself isn't the most attracting but it's clean and makes you feel like you're in Mexico. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back when traveling to Oregon again. read more

Mexican food in Oregon, especially in Salem, is some of the best in the state if not some of the best out west. For a small city that is home to a sizeable Mexican community, the food options are as divey as they are impressive, with the perfect prices for all working class patrons, and strictly visited by the community it supports. There is no better taco cart right now than La Carretta de Mi Tierra, i.e. "The Cart of my Land." Situated in a parking lot that is shared with the Gavin Food's convenience store, this gem sits beneath a tent like tarp where a family of 4-5 prep quality tacos throughout the evening. Someone will take your order, while someone else is simultaneously cooking your food on the grill, as someone else will pass along freshly made tortillas hot off the impression mold. After a douse of fixins along the counter, which you do apply yourself, it was time for the taste test. A juicy, delectable bite of their carnitas taco, and I was hooked. The softness of the homemade tortilla practically melted with the meat and the tanginess of the accompanying salsas left my tastebuds wanting more. Best of all, each taco was only $1.50. Another taco, the same foodgasmic-eyerolling-mouth-steaming reaction, only this time it was an incredibly tasty lengua (cow tongue). The meat was like butter, which means the lengua was cooked perfectly. Even the chorizo and asada tacos were beyond bomb - they straight up delicious. When the impression from the taste still lingers to this day, it means the juicy food was worth it. The late night crowd will almost always be completely Mexican. As the only Chinito of the bunch, I managed to get away with blending in the crowd as I ferociously devoured all of my food. I am not saying there will be any gringo stigma, but be prepared to stand out, especially if you're not a Spanish speaker. While I'm sure English would be just fine, I can't truly vouch for it because I haven't seen it done before. Just let the bills do the talking, as this spot is strictly cash only. There isn't much in Salem that I can truly look forward to on a food front, but after experiencing multiple highs on their delicious home cooked tacos, this little carreta is definitely part of mi tierra and mi corazon. I'm proud to write about this in review #2300 and can't wait to go back to experience it all over again. read more

This place is SO GOOD. Best tortillas, by far, in town. It can get packed but worth the wait on a busy weekend. I've ever gotten a bad dish, I'm a huge fan of the carne asada tacos. You also can't go wrong with the gringa (grilled cheese in between tortillas and meat). My husband gets the sopes often and they are quite delicious as well. They have a large selection of meat choices to choose from. They also have a heated sitting area outside. The parking is a bit jammed if they are busy but I've always been able to find a parking spot. read more

The lengua was very good and I'm pretty picky with lengua. The carnitas were a little dry but they still had enough flavor to be god :) my husband had the buche and he said they were spot on. Tried it out because our normal spot was closed. I wanted to like it. Unfortunately I am not a fan of this place at all. Some of the smallest tacos I've ever gotten for the price and they weren't even very good. Any other time ive paid $2.50 for tacos they've been almost twice the size. The chicken burrito was... acceptable-ish....but was 2-3 dollars more than most places for the same thing. I don't think I'll be back here, I'll stick to the place down the road. read more

I love cilantro and onions but they also have pico de gallo with nopales. Don't forget to try the sauteed onions and chilies that they are cooking up right there. I finally found the spot for great tacos in Salem. I been trying many place since arriving here from Los Angeles, and I happen to stumble by this place after a few years of searching. I notice that it didn't have that many review in Yelp, but thanks to a couple of reviews I just had to take a change. "La Carreta" is in the same lot as the tires shop. My wife was hesitant at first from the looks of the place, but we sat down. I had a couple of tacos with different meats and a "mulita" (two handmade tortillas with cheese and meat in the middle). The tortillas are hand made, and the "masa" use for tortillas seem to be from yellow corn which makes a different on the taste. My wife had the "sope" which she loved. The sale a really good "Chapurado". It's a hot drink which I will describe as a hot coco chocolate. If you never had this drink before you need to try it here. To place your order will have to walk up to "La Carreta" and let the "taquera" know what you want. The service was friendly. I'm really happy that I have a spot for tacos.I'm so excited that I'm planning to have a taco night added to my week. They do take credit cards with Square but they have a convenience charge. I didn't see a schedule on Yelp so I asked: Here is the schedule Monday: Closed Tuesday: 4pm to 3am Wednesday: 4pm to 3am Thursday: 4pm to 3am Friday: 1pm to 3am Saturday: 1pm to 3am Sunday: 1pm to 3am I love this place... Went here this evening and so glad I made the stop !!!! It seemed fairly busy but I was greeted right away and my order for 2 pork tacos and a chicken burrito to go was quickly taken. I enjoyed watching the food cooked right before me - even fresh tortillas. The food smelled awesome and everyone there seemed to enjoy it. I waited about 15+ minutes for my order but never felt like it was too long. I had a conversation with a local who said he comes 1-2 times a week and has never been disappointed. My order came up and I made my way to their very generous sides of fresh pico de gallo, limes, cilantro, radishes, onions, hot sauce, etc. I enjoyed every single bite when I got home although I only made it through about 1/3 of the burrito - full and satisfied !!!!
