Thanks to Mike G. I took a wonderful trip "south of the border" to nearby London!! Muy rica la comida, and a great change of pace from the Mexican fare here in the "Field of Springs." It's been a while, so I'm not quite sure what I ordered any more (probably my standard "chile relleno" or two... BAD Yelper!!) but I do remember that Mike had a chicken entree (Pollo la Carreta?) that looked WONDERFUL, much better than my choice, I'll have to remember it for NEXT time!! Fans of guacamole take note... While I'm a HUGE fan of the "green stuff," Mr. M.G. said he wasn't, BUT apparently DID enjoy La Carreta's version, quite fresh and tasty, though no longer made at the table, as an older review stated. And the cuteness factor of the bowl in which it's served?? 10/10!! Lots of standard choices, along with a few surprises here, including mole poblano, which I'll try NEXT time!! I love grilled chicken, so the Pollo Tapatio was an easy pick for me. You get a delicious grilled chicken breast covered in sautéed spinach and mushrooms. It really is quite good with all the different flavors and textures. As usual, it came with tortillas, refried beans, and rice. The portions are generous and are a great value for the money. The only negative was that the chips were a bit stale, and the salsa was the typical bland jarred stuff. My dining partner, Valerie of Springfield, sprung for some guacamole, and it was absolutely wonderful. It was so fresh and had an interesting mouthfeel, with an almost perfect blend of avocado, onion, and spices. Service was good enough despite being understaffed. Ambiance is casual and relaxed. La Carreta is a good choice for Tex-Mex if you're in the London area. 4 Stars read more

$1.50 tacos on a Tuesday. Very hard to find values these days. The tacos did seem to be geared towards the local demographic. Coming with a side of ranch and some salsa. The actual dish (pollo fondido, pictured) was spot on authentic. The manager also assured us that we'd receive the lunch special price as it was just before 3pm. A ok...first time here, 4:30 on a Friday and very light crowd. Clean and quiet, nice staff, room was a little chilly. Salsa was nice but chips were a little thick for my taste. $5 jumbo margarita was perfect. Princess had the chimichanga with shredded beef, some of the best she's had; good crisp, great meat and sauce. The refried beans were thin and bland. I had enchiladas, very good, especially the beef had a great flavor. Nice balance and portion sizes. Great meal; with drinks got out of there for $30. read more

This restaurant has come along way in its short time of being opened. The owners/staff have been making improvements since its beginning, they were able to obtain a liquor license, created outdoor seating, replaced the carpet with tile. For the food this place does not disappoint. You get the normal chips and salsa that every other place does but here you also get this oddly delicious white salsa. Their menu is fairly well organized and though there are plenty of options it doesn't seem overwhelming as some menus can be. I've had a wide variety of their menu items and have not been disappointed. Some of the stand outs were the fajitas jalisco, ceviche, the table side guacamole, and carnitas. Drinks here are delicious. Of course they have margaritas and drink specials through out the week but ask your server about some of the top shelf tequila like the Don Julio 1912 to have as a shot, or a Paloma drink. Non-alcoholic drinks to is their horchata and the harder to find Jarritos grapefruit soda. Service here is generally remarkable. The servers are generally on the spot with drink refills, I have had a couple of menu item substitution misses but those were easily fixed. The kitchen staff seem to be speedy getting the food out and a quickly manor. The owners, who also work as servers/kitchen/host, do a lot to make each guest feel welcomed. I drive over 45 minutes each way to eat here and pass several other Mexican restaurants, yet I still find myself wanting La Caretta. Special occasions here are fun, they have had very nice Cinco de Mayo offerings, if it's a birthday a big sombrero will be placed upon your head as the staff sings to you. read more

Decided to try this place out since we don't know many London area restaurants. We were so glad we did! Arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised at being seated immediately. We were greeted by a woman that I think was a manager and she was very friendly and sweet toward us, especially my toddler daughter. The server was super attentive and friendly, giving us all the time we needed with the menu and not rushing us at all. Chips and salsa were good though I was glad to add some hot sauce to the salsa. Husband ordered the chicken with chorizo (his go-to dish at other local Mexican food restaurants) and he was pleased; he ate the entire dish. I had the California burrito with steak and could not stop eating it- the steak was seasoned well, the guacamole was delicious and there was the perfect amount of cheese sauce. I didn't realize it came with rice so I didn't finish that, but it was tasty. Our toddler had chicken fingers and fries which were ample for a kid's menu dish. We ordered margaritas as well. Husband had the raspberry marg on the rocks and I tasted it- definitely not made with syrup, it was fruity and tequila-forward. I had a Coronarita as I don't like super sweet margs and this was the perfect ratio of corona to lime marg. We had a great experience here and have told several friends about it- I would gladly take my business here over Los Mariachis or Sl Vaquero! Update on 8/23/18: still love this place! My family and I started eating here when they first opened and we never stopped. At one point we were even coming here up to 3 times a week. The food is consistently great with generous portions. And the price is very fair. I would have to say my absolute favorite is the table side guacamole. It's always made fresh in front of you and you get a lot of it. This place is top-notch! The service here is tremendous, notably better every time than their local competitor. The menu is quite vast. Every time we've had dinner here we've been very happy with the food. We really prefer the environment here over the other Mexican food option nearby. I had a margarita last week that I wasn't excited about, but rarely do I get a margarita at a Mexican restaurant like this that is remarkable. They definitely have the best salsa with their chips than any other restaurant around. Also they ser ve their starter chips with a cream sauce that is unique and flavorful. We love it. I really hope this place is around for a while because they deserve it. The biggest point that stands out is their service. The wait staff is sociable and friendly and we never have to want for refills or anything additional. They are always there to help and happy to do so. Very good, have been going to the other guys down the street, and although I believe they have better chips and salsa, the food here is a bit better. We had the special Pollo Tapatillo and it was outstanding. The taco Tuesday tacos were good, the chicken being much better than the ground beef. Both the chips and the salsa were a definite disappointment though. The giant mango margaritas were indeed big but a tad too sweet, but the alcohol content was spot on, should have gone with lime but that was my fault. Will come back but going to try the guacamole instead of the salsa next time, and maybe the chips won't be cold and oily. This place is better than the other Mexican place in town not cause it's new, but because they haven't gotten rid of their better dishes to just serve midwestern white people mexican food. You can actually get a decent glass of horchata that doesn't taste like coconut water and salsa is rustic yet the flavors are intense enough to enjoy each element of the salsa. I did the white boy thing, and got the ranchero steak which is a a thin ribeye with hot sauce on it basically, and even something that simple was really enjoyable. Table side guacamole is a interesting thing to see, but I wish I could find a decent al pastor in central Ohio that's not in a run down or busy area or made with the correct type of meat. read more

Sadly I was not impressed. Small salsa and cheese dip portions, and the sour cream tasted very weird (they claimed it was normal sour cream). Our waiter didn't know the menu or what came in a burrito. Also, no alcohol. The food was all very average. The staff was nice, the fresh guacamole was cool, but all in all it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. With Los Mariachis so close, I would choose Los every time. read more

What a great new place! The food is fresh and tasty. The salsa has a garden-fresh flavor and is served with a creamy, Mexican Ranch dip alongside warm, thick, crunchy chips. The tamales are made on site (they only come with chicken.....it'd be nice if beef were an option) and are terrific. The chile relenos are spicy and rich. One chile releno is a meal in itself! Every item we ordered seemed to have layers of flavors that worked well together to create a very pleasant taste experience. The hostess and our server were very friendly and knowlegable of the menu items. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The bar is beautiful and has a few televisions for folks, but the televisions were not distracting. As soon as this place gets their liquor license, it will be perfect. read more
