Housed in an old Long John SIlver's, this has been here for 20 years or so. I know, because it's been almost that long since I was here. So long that it was pre-Yelp, at least for me, so I hadn't reviewed it somehow. I used to go all the time when I lived nearby. It was probably the first relatively authentic Mexican place I went to in Columbus. Certainly the place where I first discovered tortas. When I saw that I'd be nearby I had to stop in today. It has a decent sized menu, and I really had a hard time choosing. I ended up with a carnitas burrito, which was solid but nothing amazing. Tender, subtly flavored meat. Lots of rice with it inside the tortilla. Green sauce on top. No heat so you have to add your own, but there are several bottles of hot sauce on the table. Served with guac and sour cream and some salad. More than filled me up, and I arrived hungry. I also had a strawberry horchata, because I love it and had never had a strawberry one. It was good, and seemed homemade, but I think I prefer plain better. Baby K would probably prefer strawberry. The whole experience, the interior and the food, was more Tex-Mex than I remembered, and perhaps less authentic. But it was good, and the service was excellent, and the prices are reasonable. If I still lived nearby I'd come once in awhile. It's out of my way now. Glad it's still around. Perhaps my tastes have changed, or maybe we just have so many Mexican places that have popped up even just in the last 5 to 10 years that cover a lot more ground, and it is not really my thing anymore. read more

Had a terrible experience here last night. Will not be coming back. Took half an hour to get a margarita after sitting down. Never got our waters we asked for. After asking multiple servers to take our order, we were continually ignored. We were finally asked for our order an hour and a half after being seated. Absolutely terrible!! read more

If I could give a zero stars I would. I had to make to make an account to write how bad our experience was. This is the second time I've been here with hopes it'd be better. I was ohhhh so wrong. We got seated and we waited over an hour for drinks... drinks alone. We asked multiple times with different servers to put in our orders and we got dismissed and ignored. Literally said something we couldn't understand under his breath and walked away. We actively watched other people get served around us, though they seemed in the same boat. We finally got asked to for more drinks after an hour and a half, when we went through a whole pitcher of margs and chips. We asked for the check to get out and that was the ONE THING they were fast about (and thank god we didn't have to pay for the chips and salsa, which we did last time). I have been living in this area for about 15 years as an adult and I was not aware of this restaurant. First warm night of the season and everybody in Columbus lost their minds and headed for their favorite patio. My gang was in the mood for tacos, and La Casita was suggested. First off, they were willing to seat a party of 12 on a Friday night at 7 during patio season. This was great. The menu is huge. I went with a margarita and chicken flautas and, as always, my body weight in chips and salsa. I dipped some of my chips into my friend's queso. The drinks were good - strong enough, icy, and came out pretty quick. The queso was pretty awesome, kind of thin, and I thought it was a pretty good sized serving for the price. It also came in a ceramic dish, versus some of the little plastic bowls, which I think kept it warm and gooey longer. The flauta dinner was pretty generous - 4 medium sized rolls with rice and beans. It came out hot and fresh, with good, crispy shells. Like I said, the menu is huge. There were a couple of pages of seafood options which I'd be interested in exploring. They have some kind of giant, shrimp stuffed pineapple, which I kind of want. Inside seemed kind of tight, but I went straight through to the patio, so didn't see too much. As we were running errands in the area, we thought it would be nice to try a new restaurant. We placed an online order for the lunch combos. There is a really nice variety of options for the combo, which includes selecting from the flautas, enchiladas, tacos, tamales, chile rellenos, with an additional choice of shredded chicken or ground beef. Whatever tasty selection you go with, it is accompanied by rice, refried beans, chips, and salsa, so a very nice, filling meal! Everything was very tasty, though a little more heat on the enchiladas would have been even better - we'll probably ask about boosting that next time, though there's an extensive menu that we're also interested to try more from in the future! read more

Wow, what happened to this place? I was in here two years ago right after COVID and I was so impressed! The owner was very friendly and the service was spot on. When I came back tonight it was a completely different experience. For starters, the margaritas were weak af, and they came from one of those machines - for $10 each! The server wasn't very friendly. He acted like he just wanted us to eat and leave. I ordered one of each of their tacos - pastor, chorizo, barbacoa, and asada. I wasn't impressed with any of them - especially for the price. Delicious, local, authentic Mexican food. The menu is very expansive, with options for everyone. The entire menu is delicious - you can't go wrong with anything, but I personally love all the chimichangas. The margaritas are sweet and strong, we always get a pitcher when we go (perfect amount for 2-3 people depending on how much you're drinking each). The servers are very friendly and service is always quick. The decorations are colorful and fun, and the outdoor patio is very nice in the summertime. This place looks much smaller on the outside than the inside. Met a few friends here and thought the quality of food was great. I ended up trying the octopus ceviche on a tostada and lamb birria. The birria is served as a soup with warm tortillas on the side to build your own taco and dip in the broth. So good and comforting! I also requested their spicier hot sauce which I believe is made with habaneros? It's super spicy but great mixed with less spicy salsa, in my soup, etc. The food came out so quickly and our chip basket was never empty. Everything else at the table looked delicious, too! I would definitely go back, just not for street tacos, I felt like their entrees and specialty items looked more up my alley. You can't go wrong but I believe their seafood and their tacos are the stand out items. I love their ceviche and the pastor and chorizo tacos. (Corn tortilla cilantro and onions). The first time I stopped by La Casita, I left a rather scathing review based on their ceviche. Having matured a bit, I'm trying it again after a trip to Half Price Books and Micro Center. The ceviche just arrived. Stand by for reviews. THIS is what ceviche should be! Flaky, mixture of soft and firm, and absolutely delicious!!! They offer a small and large size, so to test the waters again I chose a small as an appetizer. It is out of this world! I also ordered picadillo tacos. Delicious and authentic Mexican food with fast, friendly service! Seriously couldn't ask for anything more. It's a little spot on Bethel that is so worth checking out. We tried it today on the recommendation of a friend who said it's his favorite Mexican place in Columbus, and I can see why. The salsa is so tasty and they have a wide variety of menu choices. I had the enchiladas espinacas with both red and green sauce and they were stuffed with spinach and so flavorful! The rice and beans were good as well. My husband ordered the barbacoa tacos and really enjoyed them too. They even customize spice level if you ask. Definitely recommend this place! read more

First time ever here, have drove past it a million times. Decided to check it out today. Went around 3pm. Sign out front stated "happy hour 3-7". We pulled in right at 3. Figured.. hey great timing! We asked the server about their happy hour. He said it didn't actually start til 4, but he was kind and provided us a bit of a discount on our margs. They were huge in size and in flavor. I got the pollo a la honey, which is basically strips of chicken in a honey cheese sauce. It sounds weird but I promise, if you are as big of a fan of honey as I am, you'll love it! It is sweet (obviously) so if you like a bit of spice, either add some or skip that dish. My dude got the enchiladas (trio of a chicken, cheese and beef). The salsa verde sauce was amazing. I pass by all the time and decided to take my 6 years old on Tuesday. The food was very good- I had vegetarian fajitas with corn tortillas and brought other fajitas with meat and seafood to the SO. If you're looking for some great margaritas and chips and salsa, this is the place to go. They sell so many margaritas, you're undoubtedly getting a freshly-made concoction. The chips are fryer-fresh and good quality. I love the salsa--a little heavy on the onion just how I like it. My entree was just okay: nothing memorable about it. I also had trouble finding something in the first place. I've been practicing a vegetarian diet and there was no vegetarian section on the menu; just random items stuck under different categories which lead to a thousand more questions. Overall, my food was good--just not particularly memorable. The service, however, was great. Our server Lorenzo, was on top of things; clearing plates, refilling drinks, bringing more salsa. I switched to beer and love the fact they provide a frosted mug with a slice of lime and a salted rim (as it should be)! Based on other reviews it seems like service is spotty, but it's like that at many small restaurants IMO. Two giant margaritas, two beers, two entrees and queso ran us $50 and we were both so stuffed we took most of our food home. All told: this probably isn't my favorite place to get Mexican food but if you've got a hankering for a giant bowl of queso and a huge marg, this place hits the mark. read more

This used to be one of our favorite go to places to eat. It was lunch time around 130pm but on a Sunday. Sadly I'm not going to say much, which I could because it might have been a rough time for them but we will not be back. We waited 20 minutes for our drink, appetizer was slow coming out, food was fast and good but I think one waiter and one bus person does not cut it ever. Being in the restaurant business for over 30 years, its very unprofessional. If the waiter would have mentioned they were short staffed, different story but he barely said a few words to us. Sad. Pretty much the only thing this place has going for it is the fact that they have a patio. It's actually a decent size and they just re-did it last summer. A big plus in my book. But, it's basically the only reason I go here. And it's convenient. Service is never all that great. Last time I was there, it took them a very long time (at least 15 min) to even acknowledge us. Servers know very little English, which makes all communication difficult. I'm also not a big fan of the set up. It's just one big room with booths along all the sides and tables in the middle. Fine if you get a booth, but just plain awkward if you get stuck with a table. It's like having dinner with your 20 closest...strangers. Chips are good- but they charge for more than one basket. Like $3 more. Seriously? Chicken Fajitas come with a sad amount of chicken. Way more peppers than anyone needs. Margaritas aren't bad, pretty typical house margarita. Parking lot is quite dark. The first time I went there, the car next to ours got broken into. We've now nicknamed this the "Ghetto Mexican Place." There are definitely much better Mexican restaurants but I'm sure I'll (unfortunately) end up here again when the weather is nice and I want to enjoy a margarita on the patio. read more

They refused to seat us, don't waste your time. We walked in waiting as they walked past the line for several minutes. Finally they sat the group of two in front of us only for us to wait on them walking past us again. Meanwhile there is a table open right inside the resturant. They come to us ask how many and we tell them 4 and a 6 year old. They simply say they are really busy. We ask about the many tables that are open. "Yeah but we are busy". We can have the child sit with us (his parents) in the booth. "Yeah but we are busy" my wife asked in Spanish, "yeah we are busy". We finally ask if they want out business and they say yes they do but they are busy and refuse to seat us. Don't waste your time. read more

Festive decor and a good menu selection. I liked this place! I'm torn between a 3 or 4 rating, so let's go with 4 for now. Our waiter was a funny guy who took care of us well, although he was a little difficult to understand. I got my usual Mexican favorite of chicken enchilada with refried beans and Mexican rice. I enjoyed it more than some other Mexican establishments, but maybe less so than chuy's for comparison. Probably on par with an el vaquero. The chicken seemed of decent quality although the rice was a bright orange which was a bit odd. I would come back again though for sure to try something else. read more

We live right down the street so used to come here a lot. We stopped going out to dinner overall due to finances but decided to get a Mexican meal at La Casita. Sorry to say the quality of the food and service seems to have slid downhill, just as what happens to many restaurants that have been around a while. The steak fajitas were weak. The steak was very thin strands of some cut of beef, and the portion size has shrunk. Barbacoa was grisly and greasy. Plus the server knew so little English that our order was never quite right and we wound up being charged $10 extra because of the communication barrier, which the manager fixed with no problem. Chips tasted rancid and the oil the chips were made in smelled burnt. The chips themselves were not burnt but the oil definitely smelled funny and had a strange after taste. The salsa tasted horrible. It tasted like the juice that's inside of a green olives jar. The food took far too long to get out to us. All three of us ordered burritos. I was hoping for rice and beans on the side but there was just a burrito, some lettuce, sour cream, and pico. The burrito was ginormous so pricing wasn't bad. Overall, the food was just eh. As those who know me can attest, Mexican and I get together on one dish, Fajita de pollo, which in truth isn't really Mexican but Tex-mex. My love affair with that steaming hot, roll-yourself, bell peppery meal is usually satisfied by my own cooking. Often though, I get a hankering for a chicken fajita that actually taste good. (well taste great, I can cook 'good') La Casita is a great choice for this. La Casita is a master at Margeritas, of which they have several versions on menu, including one that comes with an upside down bottle of Corona inside the glass. I recommend the strawberry flavor Margee, though I didn't get it this visit in favor of tres Dos Equis. It resides in a small, kind of quaint brick building off Bethel, an area abound with indy and/or ethnic joints that are often unsung. It has a nice patio that fills quickly during happy hour or on the weekends.The interior is pretty cool too. It has colorful chairs with seemingly mezzo-Native American designs. The sign out front claims authenticity which is augment by Mexican music and ESPN Deportes on the single LCD at the bar. Service is industrial, welcoming and fast. They had my order up in a snap and replaced my beer timely. There is a team spirit that is perceptible here. On the other hand the bar is very small and the staff gathers around that area, waiting for orders, drinks, or commands from management. Though it was that bad, I do not recommend sitting there in peak times or with a party more than two. My fajita was really good, a party in my mouth of fully charged flavor, nothing was underwelming at all. The chicken wasn't greesy nor overcooked and steamed with the right ratio of tasty onions and perfect bells. The sour cream was fresh, the lettuce correctly green, the guacamole had a thick, sharp taste. The tortillas were hot, fried correctly, and delicious. They were small though, and they only gave me three, which was not enough to roll the plentiful ingrediants on the plates. This is my only complaint. La Casita was once the king of auntentic Mexican in C-town but has fallen, from what my cultural antennas have tuned in on, to pedestrian status. Although I am unable to give an opinion on this because of my general dislike of the cuisine, I speculate that the rise in food culture here in the last decade has rendered the once top College Basketball player of Mexican to secondary in the emerging NBA of the stripmall geniuses like the one across the street. ( Whose pastor has me planning a culinary adventure; a test to see if age has expanded my pallete.) This I think is the main cause of the perception La Casita has fallen. So La Michoacana closes early on Sunday's so we wound up at La Casita. A relatively awesome star rating and some Yelpers I trust reviewed it as pretty positive. Man. Salsa, mostly not exciting. Chips were good though. I ordered chimichangas and the partner got tacos. Food came, all looked promising. Beans on the runny side, the veggies in the rice looked to have seen their fair share of reheating, and the guacamole looked great but I never got to that. And then I cut into the chimichangas. I cut into the one meant to be beef first. I was worried based on what it looked like. Of course then I tasted it and made my partner taste it too. Jeeze. Seriously!? The beef was completely inedible. Cat food mush, that was the texture. I cook constantly (and very well) and have no idea how you even get beef to that texture. I have never in my life sent food back due to low food quality until tonight. We're talking not even prison institution grade meat here. I thought the beef 'taco bell' texture at Cuco's Taqueria was horrible but some how La Casita's is worse. I sent it back. When asked if I wanted something else, I declined. La Casita had been a constant blip on my radar screen due to its location across from Winking Lizard on Bethel. The restaurant's outdoor trimmings of faux icicle lights and Alamo-style presentation shouts "Marguerita". So last night a friend and I made the trip. Saturday night at 7:30PM is dinner time and La Casita was very busy. We had to take a number and wait 15 minutes to get a small booth. The smiles on everyone's faces who were dining made me think the food was good and the drinks strong. There is a smallish bar in the rear and that group was living it up. La Casita is tiny inside yet it has an outdoor patio - very good move! I'll wager their summer & fall business booms there. After our wait and seating we had a server who was doling out a heavy Mex-Latin accent. Okay, so we had to ask more than once what he was saying. That stung a little but we weren't in any hurry. Chips and salsa came out in quick fashion. I enjoyed the goblet sized marguerita on the rocks and it was a homerun. Chimichangas were ordered, both chicken and beef. The 'changas came with a white queso-type sauce drizzled over the top. A heaping helping of mex-rice, beans and fixing that were lettuce, pico, sour cream and guacamole was very nice. Food took only about 10 minutes with the restaurant slammed and it arrived very hot. This "man of La Mancha" will return to La Casita for a burrito and I want to try their fajitas, too.
