Everyone has heard and been to La Carreta. It's one of the most popular locations in the Northshore area. The food is great but after a while gets boring. The service is half and half depending on what day you go. And the environment is a 9/10. Great job on the interiors. You should try this if you haven't. read more

Food was super salty. My son got the kids burger. The patty was so thin and tiny not even the size of the buns. The fries he liked. I ordered the enchiladas. They forgot the sour cream, pico, and lettuce. They brought it after I was half way done eating. The prices were way too high. The place was quiet. The atmosphere was fine... very open, and the outside seating was nice. That's all I can say was good. After we were seated at our table, the waitress came to take our order, before she had even given us menus. I asked for some, and she brought us 3 of them (when we had 4 people at our table). After ordering our drinks, she brought everyone's out, but mine. I let her know nicely, and she appeared annoyed. While we waited on our food, they had some guy singing and playing the guitar for entertainment. I usually love all the live entertainment, but this just wasn't very good at all. The food came, and it wasn't good at all. My husband had to send his back, it tasted so bad. I had ordered fish tacos, and the fish was cut into tiny, over cooked, cubes. There was no cabbage on mine, and it just tasted bad. They stated closing up before we left, and we could tell that they were rushing us to leave. The whole experience was just not a pleasant one at all. We won't be going back. read more

Bad Service from waitstaff. Manager not very responsive. She comes off as a real BiT*h. She cleared off my table before I was done. Did not even ask. $45.00 for a Burrito and three street tacos/ with Tea (2). I used to eat here at least once a week and sometime twice a week. The waitress was completely oblivious to the fact the manager threw out our food! That was the to-go portions. Efficiency is one thing but this was ridiculous , plus the fact none offered to replace my wife's order or my Burrito Wrap. read more

Ordering take out from this place is a bad idea. The food is always room temp and looks like it was just thrown into the cheap trays they use. No matter the size of your order they will make their best attempt to put it all in one bag! It's as if it's a secret competition among employees. We've gotten orders with leaked salsa covering everything bc of this. The food is mediocre at best too. Portions get smaller each time. Ask for grilled chicken not shredded? ? Part of the La Caretta chain located in Ponchatoula. The menu is the same as the other locations. I was more than pleased to see this location offers jalapeño margaritas. None of the other ones do. It was delicious! I tried the shrimp brochettes, which are cream cheese stuffed jalapeño peppers wrapped in bacon. It was out of this world. It came with mexican rice and steamed vegetables. The service was great. The location is right in the middle of downtown Ponchatoula next to the railroad tracks. The area is very cute. read more

I have Celiac Disease (gluten free) For a gluten free meal I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas and asked them to make sure the area of the grill it was cooked on was completely clean. I haven't taken the risks with their corn tortillas yet, but may one day. I always feel safer just eating what I know is GF for sure (meat and veggies). THEIR CHIPS ARE FRIED IN THE SAME GREASE AS OTHER FOODS. Do not eat if you are GF. read more

This place surprised me. I was fully prepared to hate it. I love the atmosphere, it is decorated so nicely. It reminds of the theming of a Mexican restaurant at Disney World. Pretty standard white queso, yummy, flavorful salsa. I did kind of fill up on that though! I ordered the Supreme Enchildas. It said beef and carne asada. There was a slab of steak and then the beef was inside the enchiladas. It comes with bean soup, which really tastes like red beans and rice, sans rice. The enchiladas were decent. We also ordered the red fish tacos. Not my favorite, the fish was a little too fishy and the Taco overall was sort of dry. It came with beans and rice that I enjoyed and a single jalapeño popper. The service was great. They were very friendly and helpful. I would come back here if I'm in the area again. Definitely better than other La Carreta's that I've been to. read more

I can honestly say this was my first bad meal at La Carreta. We ordered the Steak Fajitas, Enchiladas Potosinas and 3 Tacos (Shrimp, Chicken & Fish). The Tacos were fine and the ingredients were fresh; there isn't much you can do wrong to mess up a Taco. However, for both the Steak Fajitas and Enxhiladas Potosinas, the Steak was dry, tough and over cooked. The menu does not state what type of Steak is used, but it definitely did not seem to be a good cut of meat. Additionally, the Enchiladas Potosinas were not prepared with the Steak inside of the Enchiladas; it was placed on the side, so it had to be cut and placed on top as it was eaten. Was craving Mexican food last night, but this experience was definitely a disappointment. read more

I've been eating at Carreta for what seems like forever. I've never been to the Pontchatoula location before but stopped for a quick bite while traveling through on a motorcycle day trip. Because of the COVID19 changes, I was required to stay on the sidewalk to order, which is expected. The woman (white, middle age, wearing a face mask) was abruptly rude when I asked if I could place an order and instructed me to call the restaurant and she wasn't taking orders outside. I said no problem and then asked if there was a power outlet I could plug my phone into (I'm on a day trip on a motorcycle and need my phone for maps etc). Again, rudely said no. When I pointed to an electrical outlet that was outside the restaurant and accessible from the sidewalk, she still said no. Soooooo I left and went to Mi Patio Mexican restaurant around the block who were much better, great food, friendly, and let me charge my phone up :)). I'll never go to Caretta's in Ponthatoula again, there are too many restaurants that are better and will be polite to the customer. read more

This place is a joke. The service is terrible. I've never been addressed or served without sitting there 10 minutes or more waiting to be acknowledged. The food isn't worth consuming past chips, salsa & the queso. The drinks are good at least. I will not be giving this place a 3rd try after the last two times I went there. Good for chips, dips & drinks ONLY. The atmosphere is better than anything else, but who cares if the food is awful & darn near inedible. I can't fathom why they opened yet another failure & somehow people eat so crappy around here they think this food is actually good. Great Mexican food! The quality of food here is consistently good. The menu is large, ranging from quesadillas to shrimp fajitas and chicken enchiladas. They offer lunch specials that make it even more affordable, but items can also be ordered a la carte. The red sauce is very good, a flavorful option delicious on everything from enchiladas to over a shredded chicken burrito. The best starter is the queso, made with a white cheese dip, and it's fantastic with the homemade chips. Inside and outside dining is available, the service is quick, and this is a clean, fun place to eat for lunch or dinner! I absolutely love the renovations that they have done to the place. All the bright and vibrant colors add so much life to the once dark and dreary place. I love the swing outside. I don't recommend you try it out after 1 too many of the Blood Orange margaritas. I also love the refreshing list of mojitos that have been added to the menu. I think they Blueberry Basil is my favorite. Of course the fajitas still come out sizzling on a skillet and the queso is still amazing. The Ponchatoula location is perfect for an afternoon drink when you don't want to drive too far from home! My first time there. I got a large Margarita , it is the size of medium. I got the shrimp bruschetta. It was brought to my table within 10 minutes of my ordering my meal. Shrimp was small. I've been a customer for many years. A favorite dish there for lunch is the burrito wrap. Today I ordered this and when it arrived on the table I noticed it's been downsized. A lot! I mentioned it to my server and she just smiled & said she was new. I didn't have time to take it up with the manager, but I don't think it was a mistake, most likely they are trying to cut costs at the patrons expense. I am from a Hispanic background and can say the food was very authentic. I was highly impressed with the quality and freshness of all the food we ate. I would definitely come back here.
