Someone had mentioned this was the place to be on Tuesdays due to their taco specials. I can't remember what it is specifically in terms of $$$ amount. All I know is tacos are cheap here on Tuesdays if you dine in here. So of course that's what I did on a Tuesday evening in mid September. Upon arriving, it felt like you were in a college bar with how packed it was with the demographics here of mainly young millenial & gen Z people. Many of the other reviews will attest to the crowds this establishment draws to it. Probably explains why Tuesdays are it's busiest days. Somehow there was a seat at the bar where I got greeted immediately; they gave me a taste of the juicifer beer when I couldn't decide. I enjoyed the citrusy taste so I ordered it and sipped on it while waiting on my tacos. And of course I decided to order another one once the tacos arrived. So the tacos; I went with the lengua, barbacoa, fajita, and the fish. The fish was not on the Tuesday special but figured I had to try it. The tacos are good size and tasty once you squeeze the lime on it; especially for the traditional kinds like the lengua/barbacoa/fajita with the onions/cilantro on them. The fish taco had a cabbage slaw and a baja sauce on top; not bad but I probably would've preferred ordering more of the traditional tacos that were part of the Taco Tuesday special. Of course I did just that by telling the bartender to order another round of those tacos since they were cheap. I forgot to mention to change the fish so they brought out another tray of the same ones I ordered the first time. I thought about saying something but figured I was the one who ordered it and it's my responsibility; so I finished them with a full belly but a smile on my face. These are probably the best tacos I've had in Louisiana. I've been critical of the taco/mexican eats in that state so I'm glad to come across some tacos that are actually worth ordering. read more

Dined in at Tacos & Beer on a Tuesday night, which was very busy as expected. We were initially seated on the patio, but after about 10 minutes no one had acknowledged our table. No one stopped by to say they'd be with us shortly or even offered water while we waited. There are only about four tables on the patio, and while two tables were being helped by separate servers, both our table and another nearby table sat unattended with menus the entire time. We understand busy nights happen, but acknowledgment and communication go a long way. The servers in that section spent most of the time laughing and talking with the tables they were already serving while completely overlooking the unattended tables. Even the hostess walked back to the patio area, looked around, and still no one was sent over to assist us. At that point, we decided to move to the bar once two seats opened up. We were helped shortly after sitting down, although the service still wasn't great. The bartender who assisted us came across as uninterested and not very pleasant. We started with the queso, which unfortunately came out room temperature. The pastor tacos, however, were hot and fresh. We also ordered a frozen margarita flight, but by the time the flavors were stirred in, the drinks had already melted down quite a bit. One positive was the lady working behind the bar, who was attentive despite not even being the one serving us. Overall, this visit just wasn't a pleasant experience. read more

Great happy hour specials! Awesome service. They never advertise the happy hour specials but ask for the la botano or triple dipper special! Always great drinks and decent food for the price. Cool atmosphere. My major critique is my female friend has repeatedly said the female restrooms are absolutely abominable. It's not that they are dirty it is a venting/smell issue. No chips and salsa in the bag. They added other toppings that was not listed in the description in the chimichanga that changed the whole taste, and I couldn't even eat it. Like the name says: you cannot go wrong with an order of tacos & beer. I have been to the location on St Charles in NOLA and was pleasantly surprised with the food so I decided to try the Hammond location. To compare, the food was consistently good and surprisingly authentic (compared to some local chains that dominate the area). The Hammond location however is much nicer, brighter and was packed at lunchtime on a Wednesday. Service was also nice and friendly. The overall vibe here was nicer and my food was great. I ordered a small sangria margarita ($5) and three tacos ($2.50 each). They also give you a sample cup of their slow cooked, delicious beans, complimentary. Don't let the name fool you! They have great authentic Mexican tacos! I didn't even know I liked cilantro until I had them. Didn't like the Birria tacos that much (definitely a personal issue), but the steak ones were delicious and seasoned well. Definitely have been here a couple of times and will continue to come. No salsa for chips to start and $6 for the smallest serving of queso i have seen to date. For food allergies, if you receive food dofferent from what the menu states, you will be informed to fully pay for a replacement meal. Or after 45 minutes they will comp it (and trash it) after everyone has to-go boxes already (with a wonderful waiteress help) but they make sure to take that food back and throw it in the trash so no one else can eat it just for the principle. Tacos and beer gets 5 star but the bartender, Matt, gets an absolute 0 star. This is probably my favorite Mexican spot in town so the shitty "tude" is quite the buzz kill. I came to pick up my to go order. All the staff was super nice and said to wait at the bar. I was looked at for a solid 5 minutes but would never walk towards me to take my card. After 5 minutes of not being able to get the bartender to walk to me, I flagged down the closest sever. She called his attention and said I was here for a to go order. He literally rolled his eyes and just looked at the other bartender and she nodded. As soon as she was free she came took my card and was super sweet. I didn't get her name, but she was a sweet blonde girl. The Matt guy looked like he literally could care less. This was the second bad interaction I had with him specially. About 6 months ago, me and my friend came to the bar to drink. We sat down and my friend ordered a margarita and I asked what sweet wines they had. He had the most sour look on his face and said "the 12 year old wants a sweet wine". Me and my friend just laughed at it, until he turned to a server and started talking about us like we were not there. My friend and I were literally speechless. After his vent session, he finally turned back to me with the same sour look. I repeated again that I wanted a sweet wine and he rushed off to the back to grab a new bottle, which I assume was the issue for the request in the first place. We stop by Hammond, LA on our way to Florida, and oh my goodness this resturant did not disappoint. We ordered a set of 12 tacos for $25, and they taste exactly like an authentic street tacos. As much as I hate to do it, I have to. It's down to 2 stars for me (Ot was so good in the past, I couldn't bring myself to give it 1 star) Ordered my usual, Carnitas and Tacos Dorados. I cannot tell you how utterly dissatisfied and disappointed I am. Over a period of time, the portions in the tacos have been getting smaller and smaller. Mind you, they were never big anyway, but joe it's just ridiculous. I literally had a teaspoon of Carnitas in 2 of my 4 tacos. Not much more in the others. It took 3 of the fillings to equal 1 taco elsewhere. Literally, no exaggeration. Not that it would have mattered if they had contained a decent amount of Carnitas, the meat itself was dry and lacked flavor. It tasted as if it was left over, or over cooked. Not appealing at all. As for the Dorados - they had a good amount of filling, however the shells were quite stale. Even after they were fried, you could tell. That's pretty stale. There was barely any sour cream or cheese, and the lettuce was wilted. Again, not appealing. The Service had also suffered over time. It's just not good anymore. As for the final verdict on the food, It was just a disaster. As much as I hate it, I'm done here. I won't be returning. It pains me, as the owner is super nice and accommodating. I just can't feel this let down by a meal here again. I've given it way too many chances to be as it once was. I give up. read more

Definitely not worth the hype. It's a college crowd clientele and workforce. The bartenders and staff are on their phones and have AirPods in when you try to speak to them - that's the sort of service standard there. Kids seem to go there to drink and eat chips for hours so that's probably why they charge for chips and salsa. Last time we went, my keto tacos were insanely soggy and the refried beans were crusty and clearly microwaved. We also once had an issue with a food allergy in our party that they did not take seriously; they actually tried to charge our friend for food she couldn't eat because their menu is not descriptive enough. After arguing about it, the server acted like she performed a miracle to take the food that was thrown away off the bill. They have a full bar for those who like that and a fair sized menu. Our server Molly was just dandy! She knows the menu and answered questions Julie had and was smiling and bright!! Fish Ceviche is AMAZING! So flavorful, with fresh ingredients, and with the right amount of kick from the Jalapeño's. Definitely large enough to share with a few people for an appetizer or to eat by yourself as a meal (which is what I do, and actually can eat on it for two days/meals). It's hard to find good ceviche around here!! Please don't ruin it by putting pineapples in it or an overwhelming amount of cucumber. This is what happened to the last two places that I was getting it from, and because of these changes, I will no longer eat their ceviche. The ceviche I received last night from Taco's and Beer in my to-go order was absolutely perfect and I will be back! Let me tell y'all the best Taco Tuesday I ever been too. They did not skip on the meat portions. And their salsa was prefect not to overly spicy went well with their chips. I hadn't had the pleasure of finding somewhere that offers true Mexican style (corn tortilla, meat, onion, cilantro and lime, with salad verde and hot salsa) since I lived in Dallas. I arrived in town late and wanted something yummy rather than fast food. Well it was delicious and fast. Called my order in and it was ready in 15 minutes. The location is downtown and was easy finding parking right in front on a late night. Probably a little bit harder during the day. Hot and fresh. I loved the carnitas and shredded chicken. I also order beef as well it was just a tad bit salty but still flavorful. I look forward to returning and trying different meat next time!
