Mexican restaurant located in Weaverville! I came here on a Saturday night with my mom and we were seated immediately and given free chips & salsa. I ordered from their combinations side of the menu - one taco, one enchilada, and one chalupa (ground beef). Our food then came out in 5 minutes - I was shocked, but happy. We have eaten here at least weekly for the past sixteen or seventeen years. After our experience yesterday, we will never return. The food has been good, with the exception of their steaks; the steaks have steadily declined in terms of thickness and visible fat. Yesterday, my husband sent his steak back. He ordered a T-bone and there was not even a bone in it. The manager came to our table and loudly stated that my husband had returned a steak three times and that he would not be allowed to order a steak in the restaurant ever again. He was not asked if he would like to order anything else. When I asked, the manager wanted to know if we were going to pay for it. We have paid for everything we have ordered there over the years, as well as given a generous tip. The manager's rudeness was so appalling that a couple who had heard everything stopped by our table to say that based on what happened to us, they would never be back. Neither will we. read more

These men intentionally poisoned me. All because I nicely asked for a booth. We had been going there for years. I had always asked for a booth. My husband and I had the same dish. He did not get sick. I was violently ill with in the hour. I say men because they only hire male waiters. Occasionally there is one woman cleaning tables. This place is ok. Over priced for the serving size in my opinion. We got quesadillas texanas and it didn't come with beans, the rice was a large serving but was not typical Mexican rice. My service dog and I were refused service this afternoon. They do not allow service animals in or on the patio. The Manger tried to "inform me" what the rules are with service animals, he was soooo wrongly informed and when I tried to educate him on the correct policy, he attempted to call the police. When I called his bluff with the phone call, he rudely asked me to leave. I live in Hotsprings and a lot of us river guides go there for drinks after work. We will never visit again. I do not normally put negative reviews for restaurants, but I will say I was ASTOUNDED today when I walked in to place an order. I order two sides of cheese, just 2. I assumed chips would come complimentary like so many other places. The total I was charged was 16 dollars. I was given 2 small ramukens of cheese and some burnt chips. When I called to price check with the manager I was told to go eat somewhere else then, if I wasn't happy. I surely will be eating elsewhere. Price gouging is RIDICULOUS for what this community has gone through. I don't care how long the prices have been a certain way. You can be considerate of a customer who feels ripped off. Stopped in for a quick beer before grocery shopping. I got charged 9.75 for a 32oz dos Equis. Questioned the waiter and he said that's the cost. I have never, ever been charged 10 bucks for a beer at a Mexican place for lunch. No matter the size. Ever. And this one happens to be in a dumpy strip mall. I can get 2 12 oz beers for under 5 bucks at the other Mexican place in the same shitty strip mall. 10 bucks for 1 beer in Weaverville, no thanks. Lots of seating here so you can sit fast but that doesn't mean you'll be served fast. I've waited a ling time sometimes and didn't wait at all other times. Complimentary chips and salsa. The other salsa bar salsas are 25cents each!! The ice tea and lemonade smell funny each time. The lemonade smelled like fish. The food is good and comes out fresh and hot. This particular location of La Caretta is huge inside compared to it's Asheville - Hendersonville Road location. They also have the salsa bar which goes great with the free chips and salsa they give you with every meal. I have had one or two meals here that were so-so but generally everything is delicious. They have a full liquor bar which is great because I love a shot of tequila to go with my Mexican food and Corona. There's always a special on a HUGE mug of beer like Dos Equis. I usually get their tamales or tacos but I also love the chicken soup which reminds me of how some restaurants made it in Miami, FL. It is loaded with chicken and vegetables and it's truly a full meal. Service is usually pretty fast. I'll be back soon for sure. read more

Gave them a try again for to go and I'm finally ready to give up on la carreta for good. The meat was a weird light brown color in my steak fajitas and just tasted awful. I had to throw it out because it just tasted rotten. The onions and green peppers were almost translucent they were so over cooked. As a long-time (50+ yrs) of being a Mexican restaurant fan, I can say this place does a decent job with the kitchen part. They prepare, season and display their dishes very nicely, however, the wait staff and particularly the hosting part.........is among the worst I've ever witnessed in a restaurant. Not sure who the owner is but if it were me, I'd have a nice hire and fire town meeting ! I had noticed upon several visits that the ice tea was extremely weak, barely a 'tea color' in the glass, mostly sugar-water. I hadn't said anything, and hardly ever do say anything negative, but notcing the price had gone up to $3.50, I mentioned it to the host upon paying, I said "This tea is a bit over-priced, considering there's not any actual 'Tea' in the glass" He simply said, 'Go somewhere else, then" Yep, that's the way they treat customers here. Maybe I should have just not mentioned it and actually 'GONE SOMEWHERE ELSE" but how would the owner feel about this? When you pay $3.50 for a glass of tea, one would think that a waiter would have at least stopped by to ask if you needed a refil or if everything was ok. But noooooo, just the check is all they do for you. Their expressions are always a sour-faced, ''right this way"... never a smile.......usually a rude tone in their voices. But the host who says "Just go somwhere else" when I mentioned the weak ice tea.........lol...........now that's a fine head for business !!! Place looks weathered and unsanitary. Food was flavorless and I tried to cover-up the taste with sour cream (up-charge). The hard tacos go mushy before you finish your meal. Walked in at 9 and they yelled at us saying they closed. There was an hour till close and we were just coming for a drink. Rude employees.

So upon arriving with my wife and son to eat here we are greeted by one of the rudest and inconsiderate Hispanic men I have met. We ask about seating outside and he looks like I should be shot for even asking such a ridiculous question. Then proceeds to tell us he has no idea how long that may take and we can wait for a table to clear or sit inside. We choose inside. When seated normally we are greeted with tasty hot tortilla chips and delicious salsa. NOT HERE!! After waiting like 10 minutes we finally get cold and stale chips, and salsa that I believe may have been made by a 2 year old!! TERRIBLE!!! Then we meet our "server", a joke!! He is more interested in watching what's going on the television than helping us!! Finally order and get food and I am stretching here but a solid 3 of 10 on prep and taste. This place is a joke!!! The new location is just as good as the old one on Merrimon. They seem to have a new staff (not surprising) that is more friendly and attentive. Portions are nice, food is always pipping hot and tasty. Love those 22 oz. Dos Equis for $4.50!!! read more
