Everyone seem to be stopping at all of the restaurants in downtown and we wanted to be a little quieter for lunch so we stopped at this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The two guys that were running around like chickens did a really good job at working all the tables that were there. It was pleasant inside and out with a lot of pollinating plants outside. When we sat down, they gave us bean dip and chips, instead of salsa! This is a welcome change. They did have a small salsa bar where you could choose the hotness of the salsa that you wanted. One of them is marked KIDS. Ha ha, that was the mild one that I liked the best! We wound up getting fajitas. My fiancé had quesa barria which had good flavor and cheese. Wish it was bigger but he'd get it again. And the rice was tasty. I had a strawberry margarita with tajin rim. Needed the spice because the strawberry was sickly sweet. I ate one shrimp taco without the slaw and two grilled chicken tacos Mexican style. The price was decent. Enjoyed the shrimp taco with the pico de gallo. The chicken tacos were too dry and lacked flavor. The chargrill made it seem almost burnt though I know it wasn't. Will go back but avoid the chicken tacos. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite around mid-day and ordered one of the lunch specials, a cheese enchilada with beans and rice, for $8.50 or so. The beans and rice were acceptable and the enchilada, while it didn't blow me away, was solid, with a really nice set of flavors. Importantly, it wasn't crippled by the dryness, typically caused by too much cheese and not enough sauce, that sabotages too many cheese enchiladas all over America. Four stars. Service was spot-on, friendly and timely and competent. Five stars. I found the atmosphere welcoming and relaxing, both indoors and out, kind of classic south-of-the-border with a little modern nudge. If they'd add a meat substitute, maybe Beyond Meat Sausage or a veggie chorizo, etc., their menu would truly sing. read more

This is our second visit to Andale Way. We checked it out when exploring Asheville last summer and were excited to come back. The chips are made fresh, served hot with a unique bean dip and you can hand select your salsa from the salsa bar. My boyfriend ordered the Southwest Chicken Burrito which comes with a side of rice, pico de gallo and queso. He raved about how tasty it was! I opted for the Vegetable burrito (packed with mushrooms, onions, peppers. zucchini and I asked them to include avocado as well). It's to die for! The ranchero sauce that is drizzled over the top has an authentic and flavorful kick. The price for each dish was slightly less than $15 and they keep bringing out more chips and bean dip. You will leave full! Amazing food, super clean and delicious. We enjoyed sitting outdoors during the summer on the patio. read more

If I could give this a half star I would. Or a quarter of a star would be even better. I am writing this review after my first time ordering from this establishment. I used DoorDash and followed all the instruction prompts on the menu. I ordered the poblano fajitas which were $22 and did not opt for any of the add-ons which were for sauces and desserts. I did order two fountain sodas that came in small size at $3.89 each. Turns out they were just two cups filled with ice and with a little bit of soda added. The fajita that showed up was supposed to be chicken bacon and shrimp but really there was just bacon with two pieces of chicken and two shrimp. It was all in a big pool together with the lettuce the sour cream, tomatoes and the melted cheese in the larger section of the styrofoam to- go container. The order also came with chips and some really eerie looking brown dip for the chips. The two smaller sections of the container were a little tiny portion of rice and a little tiny half portion of runny beans. All of this was delivered with NO TORTILLAS-- like we were to eat our fajitas with a spoon. When the restaurant was called to be notified of this, they said that we were supposed to order the tortillas after we clicked on the fajita but when we went back to check there was no place for that to happen. As I said it was just desserts and sauces. I have to say the DoorDash was also incompetent. They refused to go get us tortillas even though the restaurant is 2 mi from my house and that's their job. Neither them or the restaurant offered to compensate anything for us. When I called the restaurant to speak to the manager he hung up on me when he didn't know what else to say. I thought we must have gotten disconnected so I called back hoping for some resolution and instead a woman answered the phone and was extremely rude. She repeatedly asked me what did I want, what did I want them to do- in a very curt manner. In the end of food was terrible on top of being poorly executed and missing components. I would never eat here again as the entire meal was $30 and there was nothing to it but a soggy soup of bacon and runny beans. read more

Personally I'd rather just have salsa brought to my table but people of AVL love the salsa bar options. I didn't really like any of the salsa flavors nor did it want refried bean dip brought to my table. It was tasty but I don't eat refried beans. Tacos here so f*cking good!! 10/10!! I was definitely hating on the red onion thinking they'd be too strong- but they're perfect don't pick them off! I promise you, they're delicious. Rice was slightly mid- but I mixed my serving with the bean dip they offered along with the chips and it was just right ‍ lastly.. the quesabirria was okay. The cheese I feel isn't the right amount & the meat is cooked well, but not long enough for my liking. I like when the birria isn't holding onto bigger chunks of itself, I like it to be falling apart, softer. I give the quesabirria a 6/10 mid. Also- they have a drink on their menu that's called liquid marijuana, I asked if it's an infused drink- it's not. I waited weeks to post this review as it's so rare that I give a local business such a low rating. However, service was slow, the space isn't all that comfortable, and the food was very disappointing. First, the menu is far too long, which may contribute some to the tasteless entrees. All five of us love Mexican food but all agreed that we had a really tough time reviewing both very full pages of the menu and selecting something that sounded good. Service was very slow on this visit and when the food arrived, none three of the five in our party didn't find the dishes very appealing. Two of us took our leftovers home but didn't finish them. I'm so sorry to post this review and only hope that the owners shrink the menu and focus and what they do best. Then again, there are few establishments on South Slope and after a few beers, they may find a welcoming crowd. read more

Everything was great. Nachos with grilled steak. Burrito Cubano. Birria-chan ramen. My favorite was the Carnitas dinner. I ate every bite. I swear there must have been half an onion grilled in big chunks. Crisply fried pork was soft in the middle with plenty of fat. Stopped into this little gem as I was headed to some local Asheville breweries. Saw a couple elites had reviewed and decided to give it a try. I was greeted very quickly upon entering and I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender brought me water and a menu. Another server came and dropped off warm chips and a bean dip. The beam dip was really tasty. Seems the bean dip is what they provide, there was no salsa, but I was very happy with it. Unordered the lunch mixed chicken and steak fajitas, and it arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. The steak and chicken were both juicy and flavorful, the cooled peppers and onions were nicely caramelized. It came with pico, lettuce, cream, rice and beans. All was really good. This place is pretty new, but they seem like they have a great future. I'll be sure to check them out when I want Mexican food near the brewery district. read more

Quick service at 5pm on a Thursday. They have their own parking lot which is a plus in downtown AVL. We chose our own table, and were able to order drinks/food, get our food, and eat all in less than an hour. Talk about speedy! We appreciated that the complimentary chips came with a non traditional dip, tasty beans. They also have a salsa bar with a variety of different flavors, ranging from sweet to spicy. We were on a road trip from NC to Tennessee and happened to find this place by accident. It seems new and the place was very nice and comfy with outdoor seating. Since the weather is nice, we sat outdoor and they gave us 2 baskets of chips with the most amazing dip I've ever had. I can't speak for the other dishes because I didn't get to try it, but I ordered quesabirria and I kid you not, it's one of the best quesabirria I've ever tried! They loaded the quesadilla with juicy and tender meat and topped them off with a lot of cheese. So good!! The only downside is they gave so little of the consommé (the broth) that I had to be frugal when using it. But all in all, I will definitely go here again when I visit! read more

I'm glad I gave Andale another chance. My meals there since my first visit have been much improved, and the food is reasonably priced that it's become one of my favorite places for lunch near downtown. Great lunch spot! It's convenient to get to and has its own parking lot (unusual for the downtown area). We had great service and fresh tasting food. The salsa was interesting as well. They bring out a bean salsa with the chips but also have a salsa bar. The salsa bar seems to be laid out in order of spice level. There is a lunch menu that brings down the prices but the portions are still huge! You can get all of your traditional run of the mill Mexican restaurant food with a few menu choices that are a little different. There is indoor seating with a decent bar area and an outdoor seating space as well. They are fast, friendly and serve good food at reasonable prices. read more

Best Mexican restaurant I've found in Asheville! I'm from California and have tried a ton of "Mexican" restaurants in town (old and new). There are few that are decent, but Andale Way is one of the most authentic and tasty ones so far. I dropped in the day after Cinco de Mayo with my daughter. The restaurant is spacious with a nice outdoor patio. Our server was friendly and attentive. Their menu is actually huge with a large variety of items to choose from. I ordered the two taco platter: al pastor and fish. My husband ordered a chimichanga with ground beef. The tacos had a generous portion of fish and pork! Topped with the classic onion and cilantro with a side of lime. Both the tacos were excellent. Simple, straightforward, right on the mark of the classic Mexican flavors I love. The Mexican rice and beans are pretty much what you would expect. Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Meat was tender and flavorful. My husband loves a hearty meal and the Chimichanga was outstanding. I had a bite and man, I can see why he likes these things. Served with lettuce, tomato and sour cream, just like we are used to. They also have a excellent Kid's Menu! This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant. Worth a drive if you've been craving real Mexican food. read more
