We went in on Friday, November 29, 2024, and my husband and I were not disappointed at all. The service was great, and the food was some of the best Mexican cuisine we have ever had. Sadly, it is over an hour and a half drive if we want to return. Alberto, the owner, was very welcoming, along with his servers and bartender. That day, they had a Mariachi band, which was really cool, and the music was great for the ambiance of the place. Alberto told us about his other restaurant, and I would love to go check it out one day as well. We observed him closely as he was speaking to all the patrons like family and was very good at answering any questions. There's a salsa bar that is included in case anyone wants to try their house-made salsas. They start you off with fresh chips and the dip they have. It is honestly the best we have had so far, and my husband loves Mexican cuisine a lot. It's a mix of refried beans with cheese sauce and red sauce. I ordered the Camarones Zarandeados-- Peel-and-eat shrimp, marinated in house seasoning, and garnished with fresh cilantro. Served with rice and corn. Along with a strawberry daiquiri. It was truly a dish I would want to return to eat. The seasoned shrimp were juicy, and I loved peeling them myself and getting messy with the juices. II usually dislike most rice made in restaurants, but this was definitely delicious, and I'd happily eat it again. My husband had a creamy burrito with steak , peppers onions , and olla beans topped with cheese sauce and served with rice , lettuce, and tomatoes on the side. His drink was a Corona margarita. It was a huge portion, and he was full after eating 3/4 of the burrito. It is interesting he said it was his favorite to date as well. We both tried the birria tacos , and OMG, they were so yummy!! The sauce made for them was perfect, and the meat was actually seasoned well. I've had other ones, and well, let's just say they weren't my favorite. We also tried the "paleta" shot. It tasted just like tamarind. That was definitthe order of ely great and refreshing even as a shot. We ended with the Sopapilla for dessert. It was truly a lovely evening with my husband after an almost 2-hour drive to Asheville, and I am eager to go back for the great food and ambiance. This mexican was not my fav. Hubby got the sizzling enchiladas which was a special it was a fajitas skillet layered with rice and enchiladas. All you could taste and smell was burnt rice. I got fajita salad which had barely any lettuce over refried beans with fajita meat and vegetables. Not at all what I expected. The building is nice since its an old copper river restaurant. This is a very good restaurant. The food is excellent quality and is prepared with care. The presentation was excellent as well. We had jalapeño margaritas and the same care in preparation was easy to see also. The restaurant ambiance is excellent. Our waiter was very good. We will definitely be back. I got the quesabarria and rice and both were excellent. The beef was really tender and the rice tasted like it had been cooked in some kind of broth. Gone here twice, and that's enough to say that this place is amazing. The food comes fast, the wait staff are nice, and the food is amazing! The setting is quite nice, especially since most of the seating is booths. My only complaint is the lack of WiFi, but just ask for the restaurants WiFi and you'll be fine (or maybe socialize with the people around you). Worst service I've ever experienced. I took house guests here for dinner and terrible service. Sat at a table that was sticky and dirty asked to be moved, re-seated at another dirty table. Waitress acted like she hated being there. Finally brought fajitas for 2 for my guests and 1 plate. We asked for another plate and she couldn't be bothered. Another server came by and we asked again and received a plate. Did not receive tortillas. How do you eat fajitas without a tortilla? Waited and waited for those after asking. At some point the waitress came by and said, "you good?" Just rude and no service. The salsa bar was filthy, most salsa containers were nearly empty and salsa dripped all over the counter. This was 6 pm on a Wednesday evening. And the restaurant was not busy. As we checked out at the cashier my guest told her "we had a terrible waitress. She needs to be a dishwasher, not in customer service". The cashier replied, "I'm sorry. I know that's true". I will NOT return and I will tell everyone I know about my experience here. read more

Restaurant interior was clean and had warm lighting on the medium-dim side which I love. I ordered the two chicken enchilada plate with rice and beans and it came with sour cream, shredded lettuce, and pico de gallo which were all perfectly ripe and fresh as could be! The food was pretty good to the point where I probably ate too much. The servers were chill too, 5 stars. My only complaint is the house margarita was way too sweet--if they sweetened it with stevia or just less sugar I may have actually wanted to order a dessert too, but I was all sugared out for sure. It had a good sour / lime flavor though and once the ice melted a bit more, it was easier to drink and not too bad. No cheap aftertaste or anything. I have lived in San Antonio for thirty-five years, so it was nice to find a great Mexican restaurant in Asheville. The menu is extensive - some would say, all over the map. But that's fine. The food and service are excellent. No, this isn't some downtown Asheville "fancy" place. It's housed in a previous steakhouse. The interior is welcoming. Ignore the ridiculous "picky" reviews. I had hoped for a menu that would feature different authentic Mexican cuisine than what all the other Mex restaurants offer locally. But it's just like all the rest: an over abundance of rice and beans. The food is adequate, yet truly unremarkable. Their salsa bar is difficult to find- made me uncomfortable to go into what seems to be a Butler's Pantry to find their various salsa options. I wish the owners well. One of, if not the best, Mexican restaurants in the area. They took over the previous Copper River restaurant location, so the interior is very well done, pleasant seating and decor. We've eaten there 8 times so far and it has become a favorite. A very large menu, and everything has been excellent. With La Cabana being relatively new we wanted to try it. First off, I noticed that the table we were seated at had not been wiped down. It looked clean but I could feel salt or something that was spilled on it. No biggie since I'm not a germaphobe by any stretch of the imagination. The service was pretty good but they could have been a little more prompt at times and also forgot to bring the dip with my quesabirria. Now that the negatives are out of the way I'll move to the brighter news. The chips they brought were warm and fresh and the bean dip was good. They have a very good salsa bar. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and the restaurant is in the old copper river grill which is a lovely building. Overall, everything looked clean. Since they are new to the area I wanted to give a critical review with hopes the owners see it. The restaurant scene in this area is competitive and it's the little things that sometimes make all the difference. The food was so good that I want La Cabana to be a success for us to enjoy for years to come! read more
