Such a great great place I'm so glad we stumbled onto this little gem in playas de Tijuana. I love a good backstory when it comes to restaurants and this one is insane. Nice little house built into a restaurant you could tell the kitchen is still made into a normal house kitchen. They use the rooms as a place to eat just awesome awesome environment and story. Now the food itself was amazing. The tacos that I got were delicious not dripping in oil, which was amazing to see my wife got the Gorditas and those were delicious. You could just taste the homemade flavor food. Our waiter encouraged us to take a little walk in the restaurant since it wasn't too busy and definitely worth the time.. the food we got was recommended by the server and I cannot disappoint. I was there for a special group event, so we were given a beautiful private room upstairs. There were about 15 of us. Otherwise I would have enjoyed the patio dining near the fountain. I was arriving from out of town and had not yet checked into my hotel. So I asked permission to leave my luggage in the office, and they were glad to oblige. In fact, one of the young men offered to help me bring in my bags. The whole staff was very helpful and friendly. I ordered the tostadas de carne deshebrada (shredded beef). I received three, well loaded tostadas. I would have enjoyed a bit more cream or avocado, but they were very good, especially with the habanero hot sauce! Others in my group ordered chile rellenos which almost made me regret ordering the tostadas. The chile en nogada looked especially delicious. I really enjoyed the old furnishings, antiques, family photos, and the beautiful decorations around the home. It felt less like a restaurant and more like going to eat at a friend's hacienda. The bathrooms were very clean. Everything was clean. The service was excellent, and the wait staff was very friendly and competent. Parking is very limited, and the place is difficult to find because it doesn't look like a restaurant, and the trees in front are covering up parts of the building. I really wanted to like this place and I can only review breakfast because that's what I had but it's like a Mexican diner in the food flavor and style. The cafe de las olla is good and everything else taste like a basic cook made the food. The food came out in 5 min which means food is sitting there already cooked and they're just serving it. The presentation of the food is sloppy my sope hadn't even been touched in this picture. Sausage means hot dog weenie and French bread means French toast so careful ordering bread. The place is gorgeous but they need to step up the food. Mexican breakfast was a fail for me here. The cuisine atleast for breakfast is very basic in flavor and presentation. So we got a cab to bring us here from Zona Rio. Unfortunately, we missed the breakfast hours by half an hour. But I was not going to wait longer for food, so we sat down in this place anyway. I ordered some bottled water and "cafe de la holla," which is black coffee with cinnamon and slightly sweetened with brown sugar. The coffee was made just right. For food, I ordered a molcajete, which is a variety of meats inside a stone dish resembling a mortar and pestle. The dish came very spicy, to my delight. The meat portions were generous, and they came balanced with potatoes and tortillas. The food was very delicious! And it left me satisfied. After we were done eating, we ordered another round of coffee, and waited for our ride to get there. The front desk can order either a cab or an uber for you, which is super convenient. This restaurant is actually a house turned into a restaurant!! It is near the beach and has plenty of street parking. There's a security guard that walks around the restaurant's perimeter to make sure all the cars are secure. It is very common for most restaurants to offer this service in all of Tijuana. It's very charming and cozy. You can chose to eat inside, outside in the patio or upstairs! Ha! How cool is that! This place can get a little busy for Saturday and Sunday breakfast hours. They are very prompt to seat you and take drink orders. I came here for family breakfast so I only ordered from the breakfast menu. I had cafe de la olla ( Mexican coffee brewed with cinnamon and piloncillo). Refills kept coming, I never saw the end of my coffee mug! When they brought our coffee they also brought a little basket of complementary petite pan dulce! Because you can't have coffee without pan dulce, it's a sin!! Had the Huevos Poblanos that are a different version of the traditional huevos rancheros. The difference was that instead of the ranchero salsa it was a creamy poblano sauce, very tasty but a bit on the heavy side. The plate came with a side of potatoes and refried beans. They have something on their menu for little or big appetites. Mom and Mom in law had a plate that had: chilaquiles, beans, potatoes, dope and eggs. Dad had pancakes and he competed with Diego for leftovers. Overall a great breakfast spot, good service, food comes out quick and great environment.
