It honestly pains me to write this. I used to love coming here. I grew up on this place, it was always packed, often with a line out the door. Sadly, those days are long gone, and it's now obvious why. The quality has gone way downhill. The chicken portions are noticeably smaller, but that's not even the worst part. What really shocked me was how I was treated when trying to make a simple, health-conscious request. I attempted to order two white meat meals, as both my mother and I have cholesterol issues and cannot eat dark meat. I was told I had to order a mix of white and dark meat, that they "don't allow" two white meat meals. Even after explaining the health concerns, they still refused. The only "solution" offered was to buy a half chicken (with dark meat we can't eat) and then purchase an additional quarter white meat. On top of that, they tried to charge me an extra $3 for it. Being told what I can and cannot order especially when it relates to a health issue is absurd. And trying to sneak in extra charges for a workaround that they forced on me? That's just bad business. This place has more of a fast food setup with fast food style seating than a full service restaurant. With that said, the food here is excellent. As the name implies, this place is known for their pollo a la brasa. While the chicken was good, it was a little bit dry. I have actually had better Peruvian chicken at many other places. So in return, I got another order of their "single piece of chicken with green sauce" which is about $5, and isn't even on the menu I don't think. They sell them by the quarter, half and whole, but I got less tha a quarter, a snack portion - as usual. It's really delicious. The skin is so flavourful and spiced and full of marinade and smoky heaven. The green sauce - as is usual with Peruvian places - is dreamy and delicious. If you get the chicken, it's a must. The Peruvian spices add a very nice flavor to the chicken and the roasting here is done well. Nothing is burnt or too crispy. The green sauce adds a different kick to the chicken. This is my replacement for Pio Pio! It's the complete opposite of what Pio is now... yet somewhat similar to what it used to be. This is a no frills Peruvian place. The menus make sense and the food is fresh. Yes, folks - the food here is made to order (and there is always a line!) and is definitely worth the wait. The chicken is good (although sometimes a little on the salty side) - especially for the price. The sides are plentiful. The sauce is fresh. Enjoy the view of the open kitchen while you are waiting for your chicken to be freshly carved and packaged! During peak times, there's an entire army of staff members racing around the kitchen. Sitting...is difficult. It's on a first come-first serve basis and depends on your check number. During peak., you could be waiting for 20 minutes if you're a group larger than 2 people. Our favorite place for the whole rotisserie chicken, maduros (sweet fried plantain) and rice. Over the past year the price had gone up twice, but that's hasn't stopped us from coming yet - the chicken is just so good. When ordering make sure you keep your calculation in check cause the guy will sometimes jake the price up or say they don't sell small sizes when the last visit they did. So this is the second location of the famous pollo peruano. The first one is located near my house in 103rd on the 7 line. Let me tell you. This chicken is to diee for. You have not lived if you have no had yourself a good ol' plate of peruvian food. The way you order is pretty quick. You walk in, check out the menu, pick a combo # or whatever plate you want, pay and then sit. Your food gets brought to you which is cool. The waiters and waitresses are pretty nice too. I came here with my aunt because she had been wanting to try it out and it was so convenient since she had her baby with her. They even have baby chairs :D yay for babies! The chicken was cooked to perfection. & always order the pork rice. It is so yummm. I got it with a salad as well. I recommend ordering the combos; they're very cheap come with a lot of food. It will knock you off your socks, they make the chicken skin nice and crispy and very juicy which is my favorite part of dining here, the lomo is pretty good, standard lomo. Nothing fancy just delicious, try the fried yucca, with the green sauce!! Otherwise I'll break your legs. Try the mixed fried rice, yum! Try the chicken, otherwise don't enter the premises. The ribs are even Effin delicious so why not just try everything, duh! Everyone in the world should have the option to buy food by the gallon...milk, orange juice, FRIED RICE? Yes. You can buy fried rice by the gallon here and it comes in a freakishly enlarged Chinese takeout container. If you have a dinner a large group? Buy a gallon of fried rice...but be careful when passing it around the table, it get slippery from the grease. You don't want to be "that guy" that spilled a gallon of fried rice and ruined dinner. The main reason you come to this place is to get the Peruvian rotisserie chicken. Oh man so many chickens spinning and cooking in the back and dripping with juices...just drooled a bit. You can buy the chicken by the quarter, half, or whole and you get a side of pork fried rice and can choose from other delicious fried goods (i.e. fried yucca, fried plantain, etc). Remember to get some extra crack-like green sauce if you do take out because they tend to skimp out on the sauce. If you dine in, they give you plenty of sauce and remember to cover your food enough you can't see anything but green. The salchipapas were good, L loved them - fries were a bit soggy from the steam - huge portion, much better than Pio Pio's. Tostones and yucca fries were also great. I normally don't care for the green sauce, but I did enjoy this one. The only item that we wouldn't recommend, would be their Lo mein. It just tasted a lil off, the noodles were slightly gummy. I didn't order the lomo saltado, but I did see plenty of plates coming out of the kitchen for those dining in. It didn't look that good, but it must taste great since it's so popular.
