This place is pure nostalgia for me, I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Even though I've moved, I still make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in NYC because they have some of the best Peruvian chicken and fried rice around. The restaurant hasn't changed much over the years, so don't expect anything aesthetic or trendy. It's the food that makes this place special. If you're in a rush, they're always quick with your order, and I also love their aguadito. I truly hope they're around for another 100 years. Love this place! read more

It honestly pains me to write this. I used to love coming here. I grew up on this place, it was always packed, often with a line out the door. Sadly, those days are long gone, and it's now obvious why. The quality has gone way downhill. The chicken portions are noticeably smaller, but that's not even the worst part. What really shocked me was how I was treated when trying to make a simple, health-conscious request. I attempted to order two white meat meals, as both my mother and I have cholesterol issues and cannot eat dark meat. I was told I had to order a mix of white and dark meat, that they "don't allow" two white meat meals. Even after explaining the health concerns, they still refused. The only "solution" offered was to buy a half chicken (with dark meat we can't eat) and then purchase an additional quarter white meat. On top of that, they tried to charge me an extra $3 for it. Being told what I can and cannot order especially when it relates to a health issue is absurd. And trying to sneak in extra charges for a workaround that they forced on me? That's just bad business. This place has lost its heart and its standards. If you're thinking about coming here ...don't. There are far better spots that actually care about their customers read more

Kind of expensive for just three pieces but the ribs are tasty. We also ordered the yucca fries not too expensive but could have been cooked more, a bit undercooked. Rice is a bit hard for my liking but again I'm not Hispanic and that's how they like their rice with salt and oil? If they keep raising their prices and cut down on the sizes of their ribs I'll be going elsewhere. read more

One of the places that I do not recommend so as not to get a bad impression of Peruvian food. The attention of the cashier is one of the downsides. I arrived to eat at 8:30 08/22/2024 and she became aggressive because they close the place at 9 and that I only had 20 minutes to eat, but nevertheless she kept talking to her coworker, the fact that she was doing me a favor by selling me a plate of a piece of chicken with reheated potatoes that does not reflect the decileity of Peruvian food. I had to stand up and ask for my money back because of the absolute lack of respect they have for the customer. I do not recommend this place. read more

Update: I brought the food back to them two days llater. They did make good on my complaint. They argued a little at first but we were able to come to an agreement and as part of that they game fresh food. It was good. Not sure why the food was so terrible on my last visit but will give them another chance in the future but will check all the food before I leave. read more

I took my mom out to eat to celebrate her becoming a citizen. You know, big moment and all. She chose this place because it's always been a staple of hers "for the lomo saltado," she said. (im vegan, but hey, its her day) All was well until both my mom and boyfriend agreed that they had changed the lomo and it didn't taste the same. And then my small portion eating ass could barely get through half of that mountain of rice that I went to ask for a to go box and guess what?! They charged me for it. I stopped by this place for an impromptu dinner on a Friday night and WOW I was blown away! The quality of food is authentic Peruvian: you MUST have the rotisserie chicken! It is cooked just right... Juicy, tender and finger licking good! The chicken falls off the bone so softly and seasoned to perfection. I ordered a 1/4 lb chicken with rice and beans. The rice was okay- nothing to brag about but the beans were tasty! The Peruvian spicy green sauce was AMAZING!!! Definitely a must have. When you walk in you go straight to the counter and place your order. To the left I immediately noticed the fast food Chinese take out containers piled in the corner. I must admit I am not used to seeing this at a Spanish restaurant. I couldn't help but smile at the delicious smell in the restaurant but the cashier didn't seem impressed with my excitement. Her customer service skills were not the greatest. She seemed angry and annoyed. Long day at work? Perhaps. We paid and sat down. Our food came out in a timely fashion- delivered by a friendly young man. After that- history took it's course. Delicious goodness! I will definitely be back. For sure! In our failed attempt to locate Pollo Loco (Crazy Chicken), a Colombian Rotisserie-style chicken restaurant my dad and I used to frequent on Roosevelt Avenue we luckily stumbled upon Lacasa Del Pollo Peruano II. There were so many Latin American restaurants, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian and more. We chose this restaurant because there were many people eating there and they looked to be Hispanic, so we figured we couldn't go wrong. Same holds true when looking for a good Chinese restaurant, many Chinese in a Chinese restaurant must mean good Chinese food. We ordered 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken, 3-piece Spare ribs and fried yuca. The chicken and ribs came with white rice and beans. We shared the dishes so we could get a taste of both dishes. The chicken was delicious, tender and juicy. The ribs were very tasty and tender as well. My dad said they were the best ribs he has tasted to date. The fried yuca was also very good. We were very happy with our meal and will definitely come back when we are in the area. Atmosphere is more like a fast-food/eat-in restaurant, nothing fancy. Prices were incredibly cheap considering the quality of food. Street parking. Line up, order, pay, have a seat, give your receipt to the wait staff and they will deliver your food. The former champ known as Pio Pio has gotten its crown taken via 10th round KO by La Casa Del Pollo Peruano! Despite also becoming a chain with a number of locations, albeit within about 7 blocks of each other, Pollo Peruano (as I will refer to it in this review) has maintained the same level of quality in the chicken and brisk service. I have been to both the 81st St and 87th St locations and both are quite similar, spartan locales. Dare I say the best deal pound for pound (the aforementioned boxing reference stuck with me here!) deal in the 'hood is the 1/2 chicken. Forgo the combo meal and it clocks in at $5 with tax! Save your extra $2 for any other side dish, or use it to splurge on the excellent fried rice. It is well worth the occasional splurge and they do make a mean version of it here. But back to the chicken, it is nice and juicy as it should be with a well seasoned and crispy skin to boot. The only knock is that it closes relatively early, considering how late many other places are open til in the neighborhood and there's no delivery. However, it is well worth the tremendous value and great flavor. All former lovers of Pio Pio, pre-decline, you have your new reigning belt holder! read more

This place is about as authentic as it gets around NYC for Peruvian pollo a la brasa, from the juicy chicken, to the spicy aji, all the way to the decor and service. While wandering around the area, my friend and I dropped by for what turned out to be a tasty lunch of a half chicken, rice and beans, and tostones. After we ordered at the counter, we made our way to a table. A few minutes later our food was brought out. The chicken was perfectly prepared, not too dry and well-seasoned. And while the rice and beans were pretty standard, the tostones were among the best I have had. Including two bottles of water, everything cost about $20, or $10 per person. Yay! I've had the Aroz Chaufa rice which is Peruvian Fried Rice and It's slamming! Prices are reasonable! You can go there and sit down, you need to make the line which can be about 10mins or shorter, but it's worth it! Parking can be annoying around that area, don't worry when you park even though it looks a little sketchy you'll be fine! The Key is Peruvian Food! That's your objective! One of my favorite places in Queens for Peruvian food. They have a few locations in Queens. They have a chain of restaurants which are cash only, take out or eat in. No delivery. I love their rotisserie chicken. It's juicy and so flavorful. Their fried rice is also delicious. They have a few varieties from vegetables, chicken to steak. I regularly order the mix fried rice and maduros, which is sweet plantains. Mmm delicious lol You can never go wrong with lunch here and it's inexpensive. read more

Today I ordered a whole chicken with fries, when I looked at the chicken I saw the bones on the wings and it was all cut up bad as if they were to serve it and no one ate it so they put it back to sell to go & the chicken was undercooked and didn't have skin on 50% of it. I asked the lady the please change it. She gave me such an attitude telling me that's just the way they cut it. IVE BEEN COMING HERE FOR OVER 15 years, I KNOW HOW THE CHICKEN IS CUT. I told her okay fine, but can I please get another one (in a very nice manner). She mumbled under her breath and gave me another one but in a Chinese container without being cut. At this point, I'm not going to ask her to cut it, god forbid they spit in it. So I just took it. Oh and I also found something other than French fries in my fries. DISGUSTING. They use to have really nice people working there the same guy, now it's a lady and she's definitely horrible at customer service.
