Yup had to come back here! Ordered to stay in again and managed to find a table of four available on a Friday night. The line for take out and to order in are the same. The server does not take your order, you place it yourself. The server will bring you your dish. Great pricing and great foods. Will be coming back again in the future!
A food reviewer that I know of did a review of an Asian fusion place so it sparked an idea of where to go for lunch today. This place was only a 4 minute walk from the Blink Gym I frequent so not a hard decision to head there. Small gripe I'd have to address before I get to the meat of the review. I'd strongly advise paying cash at this establishment. They do have a card/cashless option but the machine they got is very dated. I initially used one of my cards with digital currency which doesn't have a PIN as a prompt, it should be instant access but it kept asking for a PIN and by how old that card reader was, didn't have the option to bypass that so I had to use my credit card, which I didn't want to at the time but went with it. Thankfully I didn't have the uncomfortable situation a lady after me had when she ordered her food by card, having an issue about being charged $45 for her food saying the card reader charged her a different price than what her order was initially supposed to be. Thank God my card wasn't robbed like that but for real, that place needs to invest in a newer and better card reader. Wow that was a lot I got out of my chest, I apologize that y'all had to read all of that before I got to the review, lol. Payment struggles aside, I got something simple, half a chicken w/ pork fried rice and salad. The rice is okay but it's nothing some hot sauce doesn't fix and the place has that in spades. Salad is salad, nothing more, nothing less but the Chicken is absolutely delicious. Pretty tender, juicy and none too dry. Well worth the $16 I paid it for. That also included the soda I picked, Inka Cola and it's absolutely spot on, definite recommend. Also the place in general, fairly narrow but plenty of seating, pretty middle of the road. You can get a good meal but do take note to bring some cash with you, so you won't have to worry about any card mishaps from their very obsolete looking card readers.
best chicken ive had in a long time. green sauce is crazy good with the chicken and pork fried rice is solid. no frills place that feels kinda greasy but the food is worth it. i came back to try the ribs which were also very good.
This place has been on my radar for months and I finally got to try it out. It's an old school Peruvian Chinese restaurant that serves rotisserie chicken and ribs. I decided to get the chicken and ribs combo with rice and beans and salad for around $20. The portions were huge and definitely enough for two people to share. The chicken was probably one of the most moist and tender roasted chicken I've ever had! It was juicy, well seasoned, and falling off the bone. The ribs were also well seasoned but I definitely prefer the chicken. Overall an amazing place to have Latin American food!!
The food is ok. The chicken is tender but a bit salty. The ribs are aslo tender but salty. The salad is just a pile of iceberg lettuce, a few slices of carrots and a tiny drizzle of Russian dressing. The pork fried rice had no pork. If you're looking for inexpensive bite this is it but the food is a tragedy at best.
Placed my food order to go. I love lomo saltado. It was good. Be prepared to wait, they are extremely busy. Please know it is well worth the wait.
Came here with my boyfriend and we both ordered the chicken and rib combo with French fries . We ordered a Colombiana to drink and fried wontons to share Wontons were flavorful it wish there was less wrapping . Paired well with the sweet and sour sauce The ribs were nice and tender and flavorful Chicken was nice and moist The fries crispy and hot Comes with a salad as well with some sort of French dressing Staff was super nice , waiters were always ready to ask what we needed And prices are good !
A MUST go. Their chicken is out of this world, the place is run by a wonderfully sweet man, and the price is extremely good for the amount of food you're getting. Genuinely find myself coming back for the deal and good food all the time. Their soup is also awesome. Kind environment and a place I want to support.
I've been getting chirped on my IG/Tiktok for never branching out of Manhattan or Brooklyn... lowkey a fair criticism though so I gotta take it on the chin. My homie, who lives in Astoria, has been hyping up Caravan Chicken for the past 6 months. "Bro you gotta try my chicken spot I swear..." This past Saturday, our schedules finally aligned. After a 52 minute journey on the N train, I arrived at what I could immediately tell would be an all-time Chicken spot: The uniquely Latin American smell of fresh roast chicken hitting your nostrils as you open the door, an overhead menu straight out of 1999, signs in both Spanish and English for "No Comida ni bebida del afuera", yellow walls littered with Peruvian decor, table seating in the back, and a worn in industrial kitchen with Latinos working overtime. What else can you ask for? I went with the half chicken with pork fried rice and a salad ($13.50). I'm normally a yellow rice kinda guy, but the pork fried rice seemed to be their thing. This chicken exceeded my expectations, which were in the stratosphere at this point. Perfectly charred and seasoned skin, and tender juicy meat (haha) accompanied by a Peruvian green sauce that was to die for. It's damn near at the top of my roast chicken rankings in the city. Casa Adela still my p4p #1 though. The pork fried rice was good, but didn't blow my mind. Should have stayed true to myself with the yellow rice, but I'm trying to grow as a human being so I regret nothing. I'll probably get chirped now for "only going to Astoria... these food influencers never set FOOT in Jackson Heights..." but that's okay, I'll get there. Ordered: 1 Rotisserie Chicken (~$17) Quart of Vegetable Fried Rice (~$13) Fried Sweet Plantains (~$5) Aya's take: Caravan Chicken is an Astoria staple serving delicious rotisserie chicken for years! Their Rotisserie Chicken is tender, briny, and nicely roasted on the outside. The chicken skin has so much flavor and saltiness that is nicely balanced by their green sauce. The Vegetable Fried Rice had plenty of vegetables and wasn't too salty making it a good side for the Rotisserie Chicken. I love Fried Sweet Plantains aka maduros which really made this meal feel complete. My only issue is that it was drenched in oil. It would've been great if they used a paper towel to soak up the excess oil after they took it out of the fryer. Very filling meal enough for two people, with plenty of leftovers!
You don't go here for the ambiance or for the service - you go for the food. New Yorkers know. However, the place is clean and the staff does their job well. 10/10. Flavors, readiness, freshness, and uniqueness; caravan chicken is one of my favorite stops while in Astoria.
Went here based on reviews and wasn't too impressed for the price . The chicken was very salty . The sad was a few pieces of lettuce with dressing. The beans not too flavorful. The chicken really did look delicious on the plate but as stated way too much sodium for my liking . The inside is very dated .
I despise AI though I guess the machines could have predicted I'd enjoy this no-nonsense spot and rave about the green sauce. The rib configuration resembles Chinese takeout ribs but with a dry rub in lieu of sauce. The chicken skin was exemplar. In a user error, I got a combo with white rice instead of fried so the green sauce worked overtime. read more
Wow. My sister who used to live in Astoria recommended this place and it was delicious. The chicken is juicy and seasoned well. I think this might've been some of the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had. The pork fried rice was solid with decent chunks of pork. The salad was delicious, something about a simple iceberg salad and that tomato mayo dressing does something to me. The green sauce was phenomenal, I can drink that stuff. It's zesty, fresh, and perfect to pair with the chicken. My total was about $13. I love the meal so much I'm thinking about getting it again today. Overall, I'd highly recommend Caravan Chicken. read more
Pretty good! It seems like they just happen to be closed (open later) or on vacation the times that I've been nearby & wanted rotisserie chicken. A lot of Astorians say that they're the best Peruvian rotisserie chicken in the area & "Chino Latino" restaurant (more than the other one further down Broadway). I think the food here is better than it's viral sister restaurant in Sunnyside. And cleaner, brighter, & with more of a neighborhood feel. An young man was just finishing an early dinner with his grandmother, helping her leave the restaurant with her cane. Other small families came in for dinner also. The other place's dining area seems like a hallway rest stop for workers, couples & their late lunch. I ordered the around $22 1/4 Chicken (dark meat) & 3 Spare Ribs w/ white rice. Be prepared to wait a bit - they are THAT busy. I got there around 5:30pm on a weekday & there were already 5-7 people in the front area waiting for their orders. The Green Sauce! is good & Much better than their sister restaurant's. Balanced between savory with a bit of spice & herb. I enjoyed the spare ribs more than the chicken. They were super tender & a medium flavor. Would actually appreciate a little bit more marinade, but it was decent. The chicken was just okay, needed more marinating time/flavor. Rice was long grain & mostly moist & cooked well. Never a fan of place's fried rice - always lacking flavor & not moist. read more

My friends and I were about to head into another restaurant when we walked by, and one of us halted and proclaimed this was the best Peruvian chicken spot ever. We changed our plans and came in. Seating is on the smaller side and it took a bit of time to get ready. We took this moment to look over the menu and ordered at the counter directly for a to stay order. For four people, we got the whole chicken, pork fried rice, maduros, and "Chinese radish" (essentially sliced pickled radishes). It was the perfect amount. Everyone got a cup of green sauce, which was enough for me but I guess for some saucier people, it may not be. The wait staff was super nice and gave us refills of the sauce if needed. Chicken was juicy, tender and the pork fried rice went really well with it. The maduros were soft and sweet, while the radish was a good palate cleanser. This was rated pretty high for my group so definitely will be a repeat customer. read more

Nah. I got a traditional combo meal it was boring. Lacked flavor. Beans were dry, rice was a little hard. Chicken was ok. Need more flavor. Despite its popularity the service was fast &staff were nice. Clean place. read more

Really solid local spot! Interior is what you expect from a hole in the wall; pretty rundown, menu barely visible, but the table seating is actually kept really clean, so we were quite comfortable dining in. We got the rib and chicken combo, which was enough food for the both of us. Really awesome deal! The chicken was flavorful, but honestly a bit on the drier side. With the green sauce they give, makes up for it though. The ribs were better in my opinion and a must get. Tender but not mushy, strong flavor, and enough fat to make everything moist. Really delicious. The fried rice was very average; no need to get unless you just need rice to go down with the meat. Definitely worth stopping by if you want a quick super satisfying meal for cheap! read more
Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend to try the chicken and we only left disappointed because we didn't order enough/come hungrier! The chicken is super super tender and pairs perfectly with their green sauce. The green sauce was so good, great "spice" without being spicy. The platter comes with a fair amount of rice/beans and salad. We also ordered the plantains as a side and those were cooked to perfection. Can't wait to revisit and order the whole 1/4 lb (or even 1/2 lb) for myself! read more

Honestly, I've been here for five minutes and I loved every second of it from the smell you walk in from watching them cut the rims and chicken from the windows. Everything was an experience. I think anybody should come here who's really really good I don't take long, friendly as hell I got purple corn juice for the first time in that shit is a bomb 10 out of 10. read more

The food here is amazing. I had the Pollo ala brasa with fries and the house special fried rice. So good. The chicken is seasoned and marinated well and is super moist. The fries are perfectly crisp and well salted. I got salchipapa for my son. The sausage was actually not too salty, which was a plus for me. I've been back a few times and the quality is consistent. The staff is very nice. The decor is a little dated, but it's not a dealbreaker. I'll be back to try the ribs next. read more

My friend always talks up Caravan chicken, so I finally decided to give it a try! On a chilly day, I opted for the 1/4 chicken combo with pork fried rice and salad, while my boyfriend went for the 1/2 chicken and ribs combo with the same sides. Portions were big and we were able to have leftovers for lunch the next day. We also shared their sweet plantains (Maduros) - everything tasted amazing and was perfectly seasoned! The spicy green sauce that they give you on the side... so goood! Although I enjoyed the chicken, the ribs stole the show for me. They were incredibly tasty and fell off the bone. The pork fried rice was great, but my only minor issue was the abundance of large onions. If you're like me and prefer fewer noticeable onions, you might want to ask for it without onions next time. Overall, it's a fantastic, no-frills spot for delicious and affordable takeout! read more

Back in the day it was all much better. Walk by daily and when they closed years ago for what idk, I expected a reno. The service is just atrocious and worse yet the guy standing next to the register had his finger in his ear and was doing a number on it. As for the food, nothing special. The skin of the chicken is great, meat is cooked near well with little flavor. Pork fried rice again, nothing special if not dry. Lomo saltado was passable. If you got $15 bucks and need a meal this is your place, but you've been warned. read more
Food was so good and cheap! We got the 1/2 chicken and pork fried rice. I liked the balance of the rice chicken and salad part a little bit of everything. The best part is the green sauce, I used it with the chicken and it was such a good combination. The sauce was spicy but added such good flavor to the chicken. The inside was anything super fancy, but we ordered and took a table and they brought the food and drink out to us. Very good service and super nice people. Would definitely come out to this place. read more

Pollo saltado all day! The chicken is juicy and the sauce might be out of this world. They also have a really good half chicken plate that you can get with pork fried rice and plantains. It's a little pricey, but the quantity of food is always top tier. Cash only fyi. I recommend calling in since they typically take like 20 minutes to have your food ready. But you won't be disappointed! read more

Not sides, not desserts, not any other food. Service and decor were not considered either. Visiting a new restaurant in my neighborhood called La Rotisserie du Coin triggered an obsession in me to find the best rotisserie chicken in Queens. For three days last week, I ate nothing but roast chicken. To be fair, I ordered the same half a chicken every time (except Costco) during busy lunch or dinner hours. Here are my findings below with a food score (independent of price or value) and some key notes for each establishment. LA ROTISSERIE DU COIN - 4/10, Chicken was barely warm and somewhat dry. This could be due to the fact that I was the only customer at 7:45pm. The skin had some hint of rosemary and other herbs, but the meat was quite bland. Restaurant had by far the nicest decor of all the chicken shops visited. Price ($12.85) for half a chicken with two sauces was also by far the most expensive. BOSTON MARKET - 5/10, Surprisingly better than LRDC, mainly because it was warmer and juicier. Skin had a stronger flavor of spices. The white meat was still slightly dry, but the dark meat was quite good. For $9.88 you get half a bird plus two sides. PIO PIO (Middle Village) - 8/10, My favorite roast chicken for a long time and it still does not disappoint. Super tender and juicy meat, along with amazingly tasty seasoning. $10 gets you half a pollo and endless green sauce (best of any restaurant that served it). COSTCO (LIC) - 7/10, Each chicken is time stamped. So fresh and hot, the box nearly burned my hands. While not as flavorful as some, it was definitely the juiciest and most tender. Possibly the most meatiest as well. Nowhere else I tried can beat the price of $4.99 for a whole entire chicken either. ROAST & CO. - 3/10, Lukewarm and quite dry. Unfortunately the worst of my experiment. My belief is that, due to their larger menu compared to the other similar restaurants, it's hard to keep the chicken fresh. Half a bird for $13.95 comes with two sides, which were decent. CARAVAN CHICKEN - 7/10, Similar to Pio Pio, but a little less tender, a bit less juicy, and the green sauce was not as thick. Skin has a little crispiness to it that no other roast chicken had. Fantastic buy at $7.21 for half. PEKING BBQ - 8/10, Same owner as Caravan Chicken, but the seasoning on the skin has a added sweetness (cha siu sauce) added to the traditional Peruvian herbs and spices. On the day I was there, I waited 20 mins for a new batch, which produced a better result. Once again, $7.21 for half a chicken is a great deal. In the end, this experiment proved something all foodies should already know ... ... everything tastes better when it's freshly made. Unlike a steakhouse that can fire up a piece of meat upon request, rotisserie chicken takes time to prepare and becomes overcooked the longer it sits in the oven. That's why places with consistent business will always win out in this race. If I have to pick one winner based on purely taste, then it would have to be Pio Pio. However, the biggest dark horse was definitely Costco. This was a fun experience, but I don't want to see another rotisserie chicken for months. read more
