After I messed up our reservation 3 times on the same day they graciously accommodated my wife and I for dinner that evening. It being a beautiful summer evening helped the whole experience but the service and food exceeded it. We shared the asparagus wrapped in cheese and prosciutto with balsamic glaze. It was delicious and plenty for the two of us. Our server (Betsy) was a delight. Helpful and with just the right amount of attention. A very nice person who treated us like old friends. I had a special. Orange Roughy with bay scallops and a spicy tomato sauce over capellini. The fish was perfect with a slightly sweet flavor and flaky texture. Bay scallops are not my favorites as they tend to cook to a tougher texture with less scallop taste than diver scallops. Probably would have preferred 2 or 3 divers instead. But overall a delicious dinner and would have it again. My wife has some issues with garlic which is tough in an Italian restaurant. She had linguini primavera with just olive oil and cheese and really enjoyed it. We sat outside. The inside was noisier than we prefer. It's a quaint place, well decorated, and staff was so accommodating. We had gotten there later then planned and they were so kind and never once acted like we are making them stay open longer then expected. Even had 2 takeaways they prepared. I had the mussels and they were tender and cooked perfect. Their pasta is handmade and both my friends had different pasta dishes. One had rigatoni with meatballs in meat sauce. He loved it. we went to La Casetta on a Sunday night which was a stroke of luck since they have a special 3 course menu on Sundays. The place is small, clean and beachy decor. I had a rice ball appetizer that was good & generous sized rice balls with melty cheese inside, crispy outside. hubby had lobster bisque which was basic but flavorful. salads were next and they were standard but again tasty. I had salmon over rigatoni in blush sauce with broccoli which was good except the skin was still on the small chunks of salmon, and not crispy where you'd want to eat it. I had to do some surgery on it. he had chicken parm which was classic & good. I think next time we'll get sandwiches to go, since it's the only way to get sandos. they sound good. In 53 years on the planet - 30 of them in the services industry - I have never been so flabbergasted at the idiocy of a business owner to hire someone to represent his/her business with what can only be described as a total lack of training. Immediately after completing a meal and paying - within 30 seconds of paying - an unapologetically ignorant 'hostess' quite literally yelled at us that she needed our table 20 minutes ago and that we had to leave NOW. (we were still in the process of signing our credit card slips and leaving the tip). The entire restaurant became as quiet as could be while the other guests were staring at us being kicked out of a restaurant where we had just spent over $250.00 (for undercooked pasta) as if we have just committed a mortal sin. While the waitress was fantastic, this experience was not. Sadly, this is a restaurant where I typically take clients for business meetings 8 to 1o times per summer. It's a good thing there are responsible business owners in the area who actually train people after they hire them. From an ambiance aspect, the place is cute - but VERY small. The hostess in question literally bumped into me no less than 8 times during the total of less than 60 minutes we were in the building. Under no circumstances should this restaurant be on the list of places you want to try, unless rude service, undercooked pasta, and tight quarters with more seating than space is your thing. read more

We were seated quickly without having a reservation. It was fairly busy for a Sunday night. Sat outside in the patio. It was very nice. Service was great. Food was outstanding. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they didn't have it posted anywhere on the menu or final bill that they do the extra charge for credit card. I had cash but used card since I didn't see anything. If I missed it I apologize. We shared the meatball appetizer. I highly recommend. Delicious homemade meatballs with sauce and ricotta. Huge portion. I had the gnocchi with basil pomodoro sauce. It wasn't the fluffiest gnocchi I've had but very light. The sauce was flavorful. Fresh basil and black pepper. I tried a few bites of the rigatoni alla vodka. What a depth of flavor from the pancetta. Fresh peas. Homemade rigatoni. The entrees come with a very small house salad. My husband and I used Yelp to help us find an Italian Restaurant near by and as always, the reviews were on point. This is a small house located in Ocean View, NJ. The restaurant is a quaint little restaurant which offered a charming ambiance with its vintage decor and cozy, homely feeling. The staff were AMAZING! They were all so sweet, accommodating and made us feel welcomed. The food was so delicious, I had a cup of Lobster bisque and Joe had the meatballs - delicious!!!! My lobster bisque had so much lobster in it! The main plates, homemade fettuccine a la vodka and chicken and homemade fettuccine bolognese was delicious!!!!! I love La Casetta and usually come here at least once every summer but I am going to have to update my review to deduct a star now that they are charging a credit card fee. This does not sit well with me passing business expenses onto the customer. I also worry that this will cause people to stiff the wait staff on gratuity. Hopefully they will reconsider this practice. But, in the meantime if you decide to still come here, make sure you bring cash! read more

So the last time we ate here I wasn't blown away. I decided to give it a second try because my parents never stop talking about it. This time made me understand the hype a bit more. I ordered the chicken ripieno which was a panko crusted chicken cutlet with bruschetta, asparagus, and melted mozzarella over homemade fusilli Alfredo. This dish was so good. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the flavor of the bruschetta was such a compliment to all the richness of this dish. My only disappointment with this dish was that the pasta seemed undercooked significantly which gave the pasta a little grit, not quite al dente which I'm sure they were aiming for. The alfredo was also a bit thin or there just wasn't enough of it. They were super busy that night so it could have just been a bit rushed. Otherwise this would have been a close to perfect dish. Ordered a Caesar salad which was very tasty. I'm not really a fan of the outdoor sitting area. It's sort of in the middle of a gravel parking lot which just creates a bit of a noisy, busy environment. It's decorated well though! I personally would rather sit inside. Didn't get a good look at the inside so can't comment too much on it but it seemed nice! Everyone I encountered was friendly as well. I'll give it another whirl. read more

We are not sure what happened to this cute little place. It was a great option to check out when we happen to be in the area. We stopped going because we went and the food was mediocre and drenched in sauce; the service was pleasant though. We stopped going but the wife still follows them on her Facebook. She has showed me that you never change your specials. At this point why wouldn't you add to the menu? It seems odd and lazy. Pretty average Italian. As a visiting guest wanted to try this place with the family. Sadly disappointed in the quality of their food. I'm from an area with quality Italian restaurants (Sonoma County). First, bread was stale and not fresh for what you'd expect for Italian. Meals came with a small salad with approx six pieces of bagged lettuce and 1/2 cup of dressing plus one tomato slice. Most Pasta was made there, but honestly wouldn't know the difference. Very average. I had the cheese ravioli with Bolognese and it was flavorless. Meatballs were overly salty, couldn't eat. Another guest had the veal special and noted it was flavorless and "as tough as leather". Another had the pasta special with what looked like cut up hot dogs. Two stars for good service. Less stars for food. AdditionallySuper loud indoors. Would recommend sitting outdoors for your bland, overly salted meal. read more

We went there for our anniversary. It overall the food was good but overpriced. I ordered the seafood bisque and was given the choice of a bowl or a cup. I ordered a bowl but my order came in a small bowl which I would consider a cup. Not at all worth $11. The salad came in the same size small bowl with a few lettuce leaves. The bread was not warm. My husband got the fettuccine Alfredo which was very "soupy". I had the salmon with vegetables and it was a nice-sized portion and was very good. We did not get dessert because of the prices and our bill was high enough at that point. read more

We have eaten at La Casetta on multiple occasions. We have done take out during COVID. We have never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. The people that work there are all super nice and friendly. The quality and quantity of the food is at the very top of what you would expect. The service has always been nicely paced. I would highly recommend this restaurant without pause. It is a BYOB. Tonight we had the Gnocchi in a brandy-rosa sauce and the chili pepper chicken. Absolutely a hidden gem! Tiny little unassuming place we always pass on rt. 9! My cousin lives around the corner so when I had a week off decided we had to finally try it! Staff was friendly and attentive! Clean inside and out! Small but had at least 10 tables! We made reservations were seated promptly! Appetizers I got the mozzarella fritta, the appetizer special which was figs with meat b fresh mozzarella! It was delicious! I had a chicken casetta which was so delicious and the chicken was soo tender you didn't even need a knife to cut through it! The other people in my group also loved their meals as well! Winner! Winner! Finally got to try this place and the only bad part is that I didn't try it sooner. On our way down to OC decided to try some takeout from this place. They have a takeout special where if you order 3 entrees, you get to choose a 4th from a select list of choices. So it's just the two of us, but lately we've been ordering 3 entrees in order to try different dishes and have leftovers. So ordering 4 entrees was something new all together. Entrees that we chose included the fish special which was flounder francaise with crabmeat, grape tomatoes, and capers in a white wine sauce over capellini. This was excellent and the sauce was perfect. Enough for two people! I got the veal parmigiana which was two big pieces pounded thin the way I like it. Delicious!. The third entree was a house made pappardelle with a Tuscany sauce that I would equate to a bolognese sauce. Excellent! For our "free entree" we picked the capellini with meatballs mainly to try the meatballs and boy am I glad we did. The meatballs are the best of any I have had at the Jersey shore! Maybe in the Tri state area. Luckily there were 3 large meatballs served with the dish. Put these on a good Italian roll with some provolone and it would easily be the best meatball sandwich. Met the owner, Matt, when we picked up the food. Place is about a year old. He's an awesome guy and you instantly feel like you found a second home. Once the virus is done I can definitely see sitting outside and enjoying a nice meal. Until then, It's takeout for me. One note it's only a 15 minute drive from south end of Ocean City. I recently came here with my family for a nice dinner. This was my second time coming and I remember the first time was amazing. The second time I felt just the same. Our waitress was fun and attentive. You definitely need to get a reservation because it is a small place. We started with the homemade meatballs that were out of this world. We each ordered a different pasta dish for our entrees. My dish was out of this world. I tried to eat the whole thing but I would have made myself sick. I tried a bite of everyone's dish and each one was amazing. Make sure you ask for the homemade pasta with whatever dish you order. I no longer live in south jersey but when I come home next, I will be back. This place is great. read more

We came here excited. It has a cute patio and is highly rated, and Italian is--in my opinion--the best cuisine. But it stopped as soon as it started. After waiting far too long for a server to arrive, we were brought bread that was all too average, and butter that must have been a butter substitute. The olive oil we asked for seemed like it was vegetable oil or some attempt at a facsimile. The salad was average at best, but this might have been remedied slightly had the dressing been asked to be put on the side. My chicken piccata was okay. My girlfriend's chicken with bruschetta from the special menu was appalling. It was soggy, downright inedible. Since she is a dainty eater, I usually look forward to sampling what still remains on her plate when she's finished. But I could not even stomach a single fork full. Then, as we got up to leave feeling full but unsatiated, we heard the people at the next table describing their meal as "downright awful." Excellent food, and the prices were "on point". The portions were fine. I make my own pasta at home, Gnocchi is my specialty. La Casettas was very good. Our server Pam was excellent, friendly, and tended to our needs. The desserts were also good. We (4) each had a different dessert, my Tiramisu was soooo good. If any improvement could be made, it would be for them to serve alcohol. But, I understand why that can't be. We brought our own wine. We WILL be back again, and again. Addendum: It's a shame the few "1 star" reviews were so petty in their comments. I person described his Fettucine as "Noodles". Yeh, you're a real connoisseur of Italian food. This little treasure took over from one of our favorite Mexican go-tos. But I'm ok with that. We went on Easter Sunday with a group of 7, sat outside and had a wonderful meal. Matt, the owner is extremely accommodating and sociable. The server was great. We had pappardelle with shrimp which was delicious. The lamb shank was one of the best we've ever had and we ate on it for two more days! My 6 year-old had spaghetti and meatballs which she scarfed up! The only miss was the cacio e pepe. This didn't come close to the authentic dish, which is a simple dish but not easy to execute. The chef, who is very good at his job, needs to go back to the book on that one. All in all, this little place will be one of our regular dinners spots going forward. read more

Let me start off with a bit of background info... I am retired from the restaurant industry, 30+ years of fine dining experience including a stint as a professional food critic. My fiancee and I walked into La Casetta last night, with a reservation, for the first time, hoping for a great evening of food, wine, and conversation. Friends had given us a $100 gift card and urged us to this quaint little bistro. After waiting for more than 10 minutes, the bread finally came. At this point, I knew we were in trouble. Plain white bread that was reminiscent of the tasteless trash kids eat peanut butter and jelly on. Individual sealed plastic pods of butter. I immediately thought, "is this considered fine Italian dining?". Still wishing to give this place a chance for redemption, we ordered the (roasted asparagus with prosciutto, mozzarella, and balsamic glaze). It was bland, chewy, and underwhelming. When the waitress took our salad order, she asked if we wanted the house dressing or the Cesar dressing. I date wanted the house and I wanted the Cesar. Simple right... NOT. They upcharged me $2 on the bill for choosing the Cesar, without any notification. More on that later. My entree, (Capesante alla Portofino) $27.95, was delicious but my fiancee's choice, (Scampi Matteo) tasted like it was made with SAND. I attribute this to the fact that the chef made it with jared jalapeno peppers instead of the cherry peppers noted on the menu. Jalapeno peppers, especially the jared ones can have a dirty or sandy flavor. Not a good choice for fine dining. We talked with the waitress about the problem and said that the dish was practically inedible. The hostess came over and tried to make a big joke about it but never offered to comp the dish even though she knew that my fiancee only took 2 bites. Disappointing. The final straw was when we left. I used the $100 gift card to pay the $96.01 bill and tipped the waitress 20% in cash. I also told the waitress to collect the $3.99 balance on the card, as an extra bonus. When i walked past the hostess stand, I asked the waitress if she had gittef the extra $3.99 and she lied and said yes. The hostess chimed in and said that she wouldn't be getting it. She said that i would have to come back and eat there again to use up the miniscule balance. What a crock of S**t. I wanted to slam down the leftovers but i knew thw waitress would have to clean it up. This place SUCKS. Just under $30 average per plate and they know absolutely nothing about fine dining. There are plenty of other choices, in this area, that offer real fine dininf. I recommend that you skip this poor facsimile. read more
