    Meatball appetizer
    Carrie S.

We were seated quickly without having a reservation. It was fairly busy for a Sunday night. Sat outside in the patio. It was very nice. Service was great. Food was outstanding. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they didn't have it posted anywhere on the menu or final bill that they do the extra charge for credit card. I had cash but used card since I didn't see anything. If I missed it I apologize. We shared the meatball appetizer. I highly recommend. Delicious homemade meatballs with sauce and ricotta. Huge portion. I had the gnocchi with basil pomodoro sauce. It wasn't the fluffiest gnocchi I've had but very light. The sauce was flavorful. Fresh basil and black pepper. I tried a few bites of the rigatoni alla vodka. What a depth of flavor from the pancetta. Fresh peas. Homemade rigatoni. The entrees come with a very small house salad. I forgot to take a picture.

My husband and I used Yelp to help us find an Italian Restaurant near by and as always, the reviews were on point. This is a small house located in Ocean View, NJ. The restaurant is a quaint little restaurant which offered a charming ambiance with its vintage decor and cozy, homely feeling. The staff were AMAZING! They were all so sweet, accommodating and made us feel welcomed. The food was so delicious, I had a cup of Lobster bisque and Joe had the meatballs - delicious!!!! My lobster bisque had so much lobster in it! The main plates, homemade fettuccine a la vodka and chicken and homemade fettuccine bolognese was delicious!!!!! We had so much food that we brought back half our pasta and homemade Tiramisu to eat tomorrow for lunch. We HIGHLY recommend this Italian hidden gem when visiting South Jersey.

I love La Casetta and usually come here at least once every summer but I am going to have to update my review to deduct a star now that they are charging a credit card fee. This does not sit well with me passing business expenses onto the customer. I also worry that this will cause people to stiff the wait staff on gratuity. Hopefully they will reconsider this practice. But, in the meantime if you decide to still come here, make sure you bring cash!

    Chicken Ripieno
    Amanda L.

So the last time we ate here I wasn't blown away. I decided to give it a second try because my parents never stop talking about it. This time made me understand the hype a bit more. I ordered the chicken ripieno which was a panko crusted chicken cutlet with bruschetta, asparagus, and melted mozzarella over homemade fusilli Alfredo. This dish was so good. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the flavor of the bruschetta was such a compliment to all the richness of this dish. My only disappointment with this dish was that the pasta seemed undercooked significantly which gave the pasta a little grit, not quite al dente which I'm sure they were aiming for. The alfredo was also a bit thin or there just wasn't enough of it. They were super busy that night so it could have just been a bit rushed. Otherwise this would have been a close to perfect dish. Ordered a Caesar salad which was very tasty. I'm not really a fan of the outdoor sitting area. It's sort of in the middle of a gravel parking lot which just creates a bit of a noisy, busy environment. It's decorated well though! I personally would rather sit inside. Didn't get a good look at the inside so can't comment too much on it but it seemed nice! Everyone I encountered was friendly as well. I'll give it another whirl.

Food here is always decent. We usually get one of the pastas that are in special and I can bank to take them to work the next day; the portions are generous. Sometimes you hit a miss but still it's not bad. Their bread's got not much of a flavor. Also I wasn't a huge fan of the rice ball. But their pasta is fresh hand made never fails

    Homemade Gnocchi in Brandy-Rosa sauce

We have eaten at La Casetta on multiple occasions. We have done take out during COVID. We have never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. The people that work there are all super nice and friendly. The quality and quantity of the food is at the very top of what you would expect. The service has always been nicely paced. I would highly recommend this restaurant without pause. It is a BYOB. Tonight we had the Gnocchi in a brandy-rosa sauce and the chili pepper chicken. For desert we had the cannoli and the chocolate mousse cake. All were delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend La Casetta

First, they get busy, so I highly recommend a reservation (they do have a bar but that seemed to fill up quickly). Inside, it's well laid out, plenty of space and tables. It looks great. The service was very good the entire time. We didn't wait on anything and our server always seemed to know when we did need something. They serve a good semolina bread with sesame seeds, the olive oil they bring out has seasoning in it. That's typically not my thing, let the olive oil speak (if it's good) but it worked. For apps, we ordered the fried green tomatoes with lump crab, the stuffed long hots, eggplant parmagiana, and the grande meatball. Meatballs are my favorite; these didn't disappoint. They are large, not tough, and well seasoned. The salad they came with made no sense, but it is what it is. The long hots were stuffed with sausage and had a kick, but that's the fun part about long hots. They were very good. The fried green tomatoes and eggplant were mediocre. Both dishes lacked flavor. For the entree, I ordered the veal chop, and while I'm not sure if there are many other served in SIC (they claim "the best in the city"), this was great. It's old school, but it was cooked perfectly and seasoned even better. I crushed it. There was a side of mixed vegetables and potatoes, which were not good. Undercooked, likely made ahead of time, held and scooped out when needed. A few strange things: they have multiple tomato sauces, and they served two different versions of the sauce on the same pasta at our table. One was chunkier and good, the other was runny and flavorless. Second, they upcharge for any changes...if you want a different pasta noodle with a dish, it was $8 more. While I would understand if they were serving high-end fresh pasta, they're not; it's simply a money grab. But even with those issues, it was good. I'll go back next time I'm there and stick to the veal chop...because that was really good.

Given how often this has happened to us, it seems making a reservation gives you no advantage for a table location over walk-ins. I find that to be crummy customer service. Ambience is extremely loud due to poor acoustics and tables being so close together. Service is friendly but inattentive. Long wait for a server to come by after being seated. Another long wait after ordering to get our appetizer (and then they brought our salads at the same time). We then waited 40+ minutes for entrees after finishing our salads. Our waiter only checked on us when we had food; never coming by during long waits. Food was good but not good enough to overcome everything else. Credit card fee of 3% also disappointing. Prices are high enough to absorb this in my opinion. They state on the bill the 3% is 100% pass through yet every CC charges the restaurant a different fee (Visa vs Amex vs debit card). Just the principle of the thing for me.

The restaurant is always extremely clean, perfectly lit for the time of day, and has a great atmosphere. This particular night we ate next to a table with a couple of louder children but once they left there were no other kids in the restaurant. Highly recommend everyone to enjoy a night out here!

I saw that they won an award for being "Best of the Shore" in 2022, however, I'm not sure why because I didn't like this place. We made a reservation at 7:30 which is the time we arrived. Parking wasn't an issue directly in front of the restaurant, but I bet this area gets crazy busy in the summer since it's next to the beach. The reception desk is located outside which I thought was interesting since it's winter & quite cold & windy. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to the desk. Once we got checked in, we were told to wait right inside the door & we waited for another 5 minutes before being seated upstairs. The main dining room is on the 2nd floor and had maybe 15 tables so it's not a very big place but they were all full. We waited another 5 to 10 minutes before our order was taken. I had the Insalata Mista for $12. The balsamic vinaigrette was quite plain compared to the balsamic dipping sauce that accompanied the bread & the mozzarella were cut into tiny cubes with only a few on the salad. Very basic. Next, I had the Pappardelle di Casa for $26 which had homemade pappardelle pasta, chicken, spinach & cream sauce. The chicken consisted of CARTILAGE & leftover pieces from a drumstick & was bland. Normal places put grilled chicken breast on top, so this was not what I expected on a pasta dish. The cream sauce was literally just hot cream & some lemon juice with no salt & some slivers of raw garlic. It was very unappetizing & I only had a few bites of the pasta which alone was fine. The server checked up on us once right after we took one bite & never came back to our table otherwise I would've gotten something else. After another long wait for our table to be cleared, we finally got to address the pasta dish since I refused a box for the 2/3 that I left & felt like the waiter made it our fault for not letting them know sooner. How can you address something when no one comes by? If you like absent servers, basic salads & bland pasta with chicken cartilage this is your spot lol. It's BYOB so maybe everything tastes a lot better after a bottle of your own wine.
