From the friendly and welcoming hosts to the absolutely stunning landscape, this place is totally amazing. The Casita - We were lucky and got an upgrade to Upper Stream. What a gorgeous place. Warm wood floors, a full and well equipped kitchen, a nice gas fireplace, little touches around the place, all really made it feel incredibly cozy and welcoming. We ate out a few times but brought plenty of food to cook breakfast and lunch on site. Our stay lasted four days, so it felt almost like home! The Land - I am an urbanite, so this place was literally nirvana to me. We saw a hawk in action, and heard coyotes. We went on a nice walk, along the dry river bed and up into the hills. I was giddy with the the views and plant life bursting around me. Just be sure to bring a hat! It's bright/warm out there (we were there in early October). I fell in love with the pond! It was an oasis in the dry climate of New Mexico. We spent a lot of time sitting up there, taking in the view. My traveling companion went swimming, too! I can't say enough good things about Cliff River Springs. Those four days will stay with me for many, many moons to come.

I spent an…read moreincredible five weeks (04/01/2021 - 05/06/2021) in "Cliff Mid" casita on the Cliff River Springs property. I will start with the gracious manager, Hope, then the property, and finally the casita. My five week stay was phenomenal because of Hope Atterbury. Hope's kindness and attentiveness pierced through me from our first email correspondence to my last day. She responded to my emails quickly (I have a feature phone without vowifi but got good reception around the upper pond, the plaza, and the parking lot). Hope appropriately checked on my wellbeing without being annoying. During my stay I did not have a vehicle (I still don't lol). Hope generously offered and picked up groceries from me whenever she went into town. Without her kindness, I would have been very hungry, but I still would have enjoyed the scenery and my casita. The Cliff River Springs property is vast, varied, and vibrant. After my arrival, Hope showed me around the beautiful property; more importantly, she showed me the map of the property and the guide to the various trails and hikes on the property. During the first two weeks, I had an amazing time exploring the property and trails. Listening, feeling, smelling, and watching nature be reborn was peaceful and soul satisfying. After the weather warmed and I got some courage, I took several rejuvenating swims in the upper pond. Later on I found a distinguished, tremendous tree to share energy, practice yoga, meditate, and observe life near my casita (the tree is near the longest bench and valley overview area). My casita, "Cliff Mid," was quiet, charming, and cozy. "Cliff Mid" contained everything I needed to feel at home. It had great wifi, a full sink, refrigerator, dishes, salt, olive oil, various tea bags, tea kettle, soap, towels, a gas range and oven, a toaster, dining table, full size bed with a thick comforter, sofa, arm chair, bathroom, electric heat baseboards, yoga mat, books, pots and pans, spices, and hot sauce. My favorite part of the casita are the windows. There is one window in the front and three windows in the back of the casita. I love the refreshing air flow with all the windows open. Also being able to watch the birds, especially the humming birds, from the front window and listen to the stream from the back windows is spectacular. One of the best parts of my adventure at Cliff River Springs were the moments I shared with the other guests and staff. I had different neighbors during my stay. Everyone had positive, calm aura; additionally, everyone was friendly. Whether you come by yourself, with a friend, or with a bunch of family, you will enjoy the harmony and nature at Cliff River Springs. You will leave relaxed and happier (maybe a little sad leaving because you want to stay longer). I plan to return to Cliff River Springs to experience its magic during each season. Richard had a letter attached to the wood frame entrance to our accommodations welcoming us to the property. He came right over to introduce himself, show us around the property, and even picked a few things from the garden for us to enjoy during our stay. We settled in and enjoyed the cheese, crackers, olives and snacks that he had on the table along with a bottle of wine that was delicious. The next morning, Richard was on our doorstep with warm pear and walnut scones that he made from the pear tree on the property. Our little cottage was perfect. Filled with local art work, bright colors and the textures of the Southwest. We had a lovely living room, dining area with a banquette, kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Upstairs was the bedroom and bathroom with a large deck off the bedroom and stunning views of the mountains surrounding Taos. Everything was spotlessly clean, warm, inviting and cozy. We relaxed, enjoyed and savored every moment we were here. I even used the little meditation hut next to the creek for my morning meditations. It was the most peaceful spot. In the refrigerator we found 6 fresh eggs that Richard had left from the chickens on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed them. Richard was friendly, kind, giving and the most gracious host and a wonderful innkeeper. If you ever find yourself traveling to Taos, you must stay.

We were still in the early stages of getting to know each other and basking in such beautiful and lively surroundings, I learned some new things about him (one can't help but express themselves openly while visiting Suitable Digs). The interest and the pleasure he took in retro, vintage style items was new to me--and only enhanced by our getting to stay in the unique classic, the Spartan. We were already excited by the incredible vegetable and fruit gardens growing in this desert Eden, alongside the various and fascinating water catchment, solar and other energy-conserving systems. So much to see and take in! But when we stepped into the Spartan for the first time, wow...he came alive in a new and different way than I had seen before. His eyes gleamed with wonder, like a little boy on the first eve of Chanukah. The trailer was adorned in time period style, authentic in its original form with all the little extras that Lisa had taken the time and painstaking effort to locate and attach, no distance too far or too wide, no fixture unaccounted for. My beau settled in on the couch to read, out loud, several pages of Red Sky at Morning, a 1968 novel by Richard Bradford that takes place in New Mexico. I listened to him laugh and reminisce all over again, as he had when he first read it years ago. That evening, we sat in chairs on the patio outside the Spartan, gazing at the bright moonlit sky and feeling dreamy about where we had landed together. I recall the moonlight as it shone into the Spartan and landed on soft pillows, just as the warm morning sunlight welcomed itself into our cozy abode to gently awaken us the next day. Being at Suitable Digs for the 21st time was just as familiar as ever...and at the same time, it was as unexpected and fresh as traveling to a completely unfamiliar and exotic destination for the first time. The innovative air that always exists there, remains.

The Hacienda is tucked on a hill, down several dirt roads and through an entrance gate, you may begin to wonder if you are on the right path, just follow their instructions and you will be fine. The property is beautiful with stunning views. With just 3 rooms, you will feel like you have the place to yourself. The breakfast room/great room with a fireplace is a wonderful gathering spot with games. Step out on the patio or walk down the short path to the jacuzzi, it is beautiful. Now to our room. The king bed was so comfortable, the two indoor chairs at the foot of the bed are comfy and easy to sit and read. But even better, step out onto your private patio with chaise lounges and soak in the views of the lake and landscape. All 3 rooms have their own private patio's, you can't go wrong with any of them. The bathroom was huge with double sinks and the shower huge. We were extremely comfortable. The breakfasts at the inn are scrumptious. Our first breakfast started with vanilla yogurt and chia seeds, topped with honey, fresh fruit and mint. Then Jessica brought out Avocado toast with pine nuts and a soft egg. By now I am happily full. But wait, Jessica and Christopher bring out the main breakfast walnut bread French toast with syrup and almond whipped cream, with potato hash. Mr. B had ham also, with me being primarily vegetarian I had roasted fresh figs with goat cheese. We did have dinner one night during our stay and again it was delicious. Each afternoon, there is a snack for the guests in the great room too. There is a guest utility type room with a refrigerator, so if you have drinks or juices you want to keep cold, you can store them in the fridge. Our stay was truly memorable, it couldn't have been any better and exceeded our expectations. We will absolutely go back just to relax for a few days.

The property is on top of a mesa by itself and looks out for miles around at the lake, red rock cliffs and stunning mountains all around. Carolyn and Tom were amazing hosts, and take care to make sure everyone's stay is nothing less than perfect. The three course breakfasts they serve are out of this world and we looked forward to them each day. We feel like we gained friends in Carolyn and Tom and have recommended it to our friends and family. We can't wait to go back!

Houses of the Moon is a truly interesting stay. A western, and sometimes southwestern, take on a…read moretraditional Japanese inn. Each of the rooms is moon themed, named, whether in English or Japanese, after a phase of the moon. Those with good Japanese skills, however, may notice that they've run out of phases of the moon and have started doubling up (there is both a hangetsu and half moon, for example). The site is absolutely gorgeous. Even if you're not staying here, it's worth a drive outside of Santa Fe just to come gawk at the architecture. The rooms are comfortable, if a bit sparse. Our mid-level room, for example, had no table. The original rooms are built out of a renovated 80-year old adobe house, and as a result are heated by overhead units and fireplaces rather than central air. Despite that, I never felt uncomfortable in the room, despite visiting in November. I also found the bed very comfortable. Firm but forgiving, not the mushy-soft beds which are becoming trendy at some high end hotels. The rooms do also have a number of amenities, including a variety of types of tea (although not very good tea), fresh fruit, and granola in the room daily. The granola and fruit make an excellent breakfast and/or midnight snack, which is important because it's a little ways into town from Houses of the Moon. The washlets in the room (electric Japanese toilets with heated seats and bidet features) are a nice touch. I personally found the Buddha chocolates delicious, but somewhat kitschy and sacrilegious. I imagine there are a lot of folks out there who would be offended by a place that served you little chocolate Jesuses, so it seems to me we should treat the Buddha with at least as much reverence. Add to that the fact that freeing yourself from earthly desires is a central tenet of Buddhism, and the idea of serving chocolate Buddhas (chocolate being something of a symbol of luxury and earthly desire) seems a bit strange if you stop to think about it. Houses of the Moon also provides guests with yukatas (which they refer to as kimono, presumably for the predominantly Western guests), and bath sandals. However, these don't appear to be sized to the guests. My medium sized self and girlfriend got an XXXL and XXL coat to go over our yukata, and I was swimming in my sandals as well. A nice touch, but would be a lot better if they weren't so huge! Yukata can be worn to Ten Thousand Waves and Izanami, both located on the same property. In addition, Houses of the Moon guests have complimentary use of the communal baths at Ten Thousand Waves, with some restrictions. A nice perk. The staff at Houses of the Moon were excellent, calm, helpful, and never intrusive. They answered all of our questions, and anticipated our needs. A highlight of the stay. Overall, for those looking for a quiet retreat without a lot of hubbub or action, Houses of the Moon is a good choice. If you're just looking to visit Santa Fe, Houses of the Moon doesn't represent a good value for money. There are plenty of nice places to stay closer to the city at much lower rates. Houses of the Moon should also not be mistaken for an authentic Japanese ryokan. While it bears some relation to one, it is more of a western cousin.

This place is getting 2 stars only because the bed was comfy, it was warm and the Tv worked. The owner was nice, friendly. Now, let's get to the bad parts. The previous person who was in #6, was late leaving...therefore, I had to find something to do for the next hour while they got the place cleaned and ready...she did offer me another room but, not for the same price. Where I went will be another review and for that time it worked out. My room was nice and clean for the most part. The bathroom sink was clogged and slow to drain, Toilet was low to the ground, there is mold on the ceiling, and the fan was covered with dust, and bugs, spiders on the wall and ceiling. Oh, and I had a wasp in my room! The shower sprayer was to harsh, and not enough hot water. The coffee pot had no coffee filters. It was quiet and was able to take my dog out at night, and pretty dark, the street light came on then went off. The lady that owns it has the place very cluttered and the kitchen where I went to check out was pretty cluttered and dirty. So, if I go up there again, I will look for another place and pay more to make sure I feel more comfortable.

She has a couple different room options, from tiny one bedrooms, to a few family rooms, to one larger room with an upstairs. We have stayed in a couple different of their rooms and most recently stayed in the one with the upstairs. It was roomy for four people, but note that the upstairs has a very low ceiling. So what if they don't have all the big amenities? They have a fantastic view, in a great relaxing location. It's a great value at $80 a night, for comfy beds and hot water.

The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

Lovely Bed and breakfast in the outskirts of Taos…read more We arrive at this lovely B&B and Gould the grounds to be very beautiful. Has a real south west vibe going on which continued into our room. The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I would give this place 7 stars ( 2 bonus stars)
