Wedge fries is definitely the way to go the extra surface area soaked up so much sauce the entire dish was super yummy!!! Also the chicha morada was super refreshing, I've never had it before but I'd definitely try it again. Will be coming back with my brother in tow to eat again!!! Also also our server was super nice and he was the one who suggested the wedge fries. Sensational.

I asked her for a recommendation between 2 dishes and a few drinks. She was spot on in explaining what the taste profile was like. We got the pollo saltado dish, the tallarin verde dish and the chica morado drink. The pollo Salta was very good. I was hoping for it to be a bit less spicy with a bit more other flavor, but overall very good. I appreciate the balance in vegetables, protein and starch. The tallarin verde was good but I felt that was too much pasta, and no vegetables in the entire dish. The drink was very unique, it was nice to try something authentic to Peru.

As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.

No time to read: Save your money--too expensive for what you get…read more I visited La Champa Latin Grill on a Saturday around 2:30 PM. While the establishment has a decent setup--plenty of seating (about 22 tables for four and 6 larger booths), a full bar, and three large TVs--the experience simply didn't justify the price tag. For three people, ordering one combination platter, an asada appetizer, and three drinks, the total came to $100.00. The Service & Atmosphere The service started strong. We were greeted and seated immediately (only 3 tables were occupied). Drinks arrived within 2 minutes, and the complimentary chips with salsa and cotija cheese arrived within 5 minutes. However, things slowed down significantly from there. Our main courses didn't arrive until 30 minutes after the appetizers. The waitress mentioned they were short a cook, which is understandable, but it definitely impacted the flow of the meal. One major vibe killer: the lighting. The restaurant was so dark I could barely see what I was eating. The Food While the portions were a good size, the flavor was a mediocre 5/10 overall. Asada Appetizer ($26): This was the dish served with cucumbers. For $26, the quality of the meat was disappointing--it wasn't a premium cut and lacked the "wow" factor of something like a Mexican molcajete. Plus, the cucumbers served with it were old and soft. Asado con Tajadas: The tajadas (fried green bananas) were good and the meat was seasoned well, but the quality control was poor. I had to spit out wads of fat three different times. Most concerningly, my wife found a toothpick hidden inside the cabbage and sauce. This is a major safety hazard. Combination Platter: The pupusas were smaller than what you'd find at other local spots. The loroco pupusa was missing cheese, and the revuelta lacked flavor. The tacos included in the platter were very bland. Verdict Between the high prices, the average flavors, and finding a toothpick in our food, I can't recommend this spot. There are much better Latin grills in the area where your $100 will go a lot further.
