Wait: None, we were leaving Playa Norte early morning and stopped here. Server: They were so kind. We had some language barriers with my current level of Spanish fluency and they English fluency but it all worked out! Food Quality& Order: Delicious! We enjoyed our breakfast so much. We just ordered kind of a spread as you can see from photos. Completed by them adding in a basket of corn tortillas. Ay Dios mío! My heart. Great quality food, fresh, well cooked, and was good later too. Atmosphere& Decor: I love that they have indoor and outdoor. That provides something for everyone. Some places on island are lacking that due to side constraints. I loved the colors. I'm very attracted to oranges, yellows, and pinks.

I found this place off the beaten path one morning, on my way to the malecon for a run. It had been just set up for opening and looked clean, quaint and inviting. My wife and I ventured back on a Monday morning, hoping for something more local and low key. It was exactly that. I was just along for the ride, as I'm not a huge breakfast fan. However, as soon as I read the description of the House Specialties, which the restaurant is named for, I was all in. I tried the Cazuela Contoy with Shrimp, Tomatoes and Herbs, my wife had the Cazuela Ranchera with Black Beans, Ham and Salsa. Both were really delicious, and thankfully not as huge as the dishes would make you believe. I say "dishes" because the clay dish that the Cazuela is prepared and served in, is straight out of the oven, to the point it's still bubbling and spewing steam at least three minutes after it arrived on top of a second dish, for carrying to the table. Not an easy feat mind you, when the air temperature is already in the mid-seventy range. Served with fresh corn tortillas, I ate every last bit of it. The service was wonderful. Coffee and Juices were delicious, and do give their salsas a try. We were fairly warned which of the two was the hot one, but let your tastebuds decide. They were both nice compliments to our meals. The restaurant is located on a somewhat busy street corner, and the day we visited, there was a pump running across the street to move some flooding from the huge rain storm the night before. Still, it was fun watching folks go by and listening to a couple of local gentlemen who appeared to be having breakfast before heading off to work. Our server was friendly, attentive and polite, and we even were paid a visit by the Owner/Chef at the end of our meal. He was very appreciative of our visit. We will definitely head here again on future trips.

Excellent breakfast! Very delicious and quality breakfast options cooked with soul. Loved the cute decor and meal presentment. Everything tasted delicious and was reasonably priced. Fast and courteous service. La cazuela opened from 7am to 1pm daily and definitely worth a visit for authentic and delicious meal !

Very good and interesting food. We had crepes for breakfast, my partner has sweet and I got the savory. They gave us plenty of coffee and it was a cute little cafe with lots of charm. Can't go wrong here!

Looks huge but the bowl is very shallow. This is the one with ham.

Cute spot seems authentic. Got a cazuela, this clay shallow bowl baked with egg, cheese and your choice of a combo of ingredients. Clay or no clay, it tastes nothing different from eggs with melted cheese and other ingredients. Nothing special to be honest. I was hoping it's jazzed up with some sort of Mexican sauce. Fresh OJ was 30 pesos.

Cazuela con Chaya. Chaya is kind of spinach. it's like a quiche. Baked on a clay plate with cheese and veggies! I've been back 3 more times. Comes with tortilla or bread. A little over 100 pesos. Just go!!

Someone in our hotel recommended it to us. The breakfast here was delicious albeit a little heavy for such a hot place. If I'm not mistaken, a cazuela is the name of a cooking pot. Because different kinds of dishes are prepared in it, different dishes go by this name in different Latin American countries. In this specific restaurant, a cazuela is something of an omelette cooked and served in a colorful stoneware (?). Not sure if it's made of stone because the thing was supposed to be molten lava hot so I didn't touch it. I ordered something with asparagus and gruyere. It was more like a very rich and decadent crustless quiche. It would've been a perfect breakfast back home where it's cold. Unfortunately in tropical Isla Mujeres, it just left me feeling a little too sluggish. This is a solidly good place. It's not exactly traditional Mexican fare but if you're craving cheese and ham and eggs, this is your place. Think of it as a restaurant a step above Denny's. And with a little bit more charm! Overall, delicious food. Sufficiently attentive service. Not an everyday spot for breakfast but a good scrumptious treat every once in awhile.

I love this little place!! The cazuelas are unique and very good! My cazuela had refried beans topped with an tortilla topped with an egg. The side of plantain was unique and added a hint of sweetness to the dish. The service is just ok. While there there was a gentleman who leaned back on his chair and he broke the chair. The staff didn't seem too concerned.

This was the first time to the island and had no idea what was good so restaurant picking was a challenge.

Pro tip with all tacos: you gotta eat it fast or else the tortilla collapses in your hand. They had these amazing chips to go with not your usual salsa but a ketchup/mayo combo and a very very spicy chili crisp. I made the mistake of eating too many of the chips and not having enough room for my tacos. The coconut shrimp was just okay. Very tiny shrimp. My husband raved about the lime soup here for the rest of the trip; I can confirm that it was excellent. Fun casual atmosphere - our food came out pretty fast, even with all of the tables filled. Bonus points for playing music videos of 2010s pop hits on the tv by our table.

This restaurant definitely had I more local vibe compared to some of the tourist places up north. As soon as we got there I could tell the employees or maybe even the owner started counting up how many women are party and started to shuffling the tables around to accommodate us. This was definitely one of the highlights in terms of The food that we had. Everyone was happy with their dreams and their food We got the mixed grill which served for adults. The shrimp, the lobster, the steak, the chorizo all of it was a good mix. There was a lot of vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower as well as a salad. Someone else in our party got the enchiladas and a burrito and they're very particular about their Mexican food and they both said it was the best meal of the Trip. The only item I wouldn't order and not because it's bad just because it wasn't as good was the carbonara. I ordered it to split between the children and they actually loved it but if I were an Italian I would probably be left wanting.
