We were looking for a popular restaurant that we picked out on Yelp when we stumbled upon La Lomita instead. What a terrific find! It is a small, family owned restaurant a few blocks off the main drag. We started with the Mixto Ceviche which was a combo of white fish, shrimp, conch & octopus. For my main entree, I had the butter octopus and my husband had the Conch Yucateca Stlye. Everything was fantastic, fresh and made to order. Highly recommend making the trek out to find this hidden gem.

Best restaurant on Isla Mujeres!! Tried about every popular restaurant on my recent trip to Isla Mujeres, and La Lomita stood out by a mile. Their chile rellenos were to die for...I actually had never had that dish before but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even tried conch for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Absolutely worth the wait if there is one.

I am really shocked at how subpar our dinner was, especially given how highly it's rated. We have come to Isla multiple times but this was our first visit to La Lomita. Very underwhelmed. Pros: quick seating at an outdoor table. Adorable (yet persistent) kitty who let me give it pets while also attacking my raincoat on the back of the chair (yes - this is a pro to me!) Decent shrimp ceviche. Decent margarita. Very friendly young person was our waiter. Cheese chile relleno was pretty good (and big.) Cons: the chicken enchiladas suisas was terrible. The salsa verde was the only good part. The plate was hot so I expected my meal to be hot, but it was room temp at best. Not even the cheese slices on top were melted. Bland chicken and way too much crema. The salsas aren't hot. And the whole meal for 2 hours was almost $60. That blows my mind. It was not even close to the best food we had elsewhere on Isla. Next time I will stick to taco carts.

Wonderful friendly family owned spot. Seafood was very fresh. Coconut shrimp was freshly battered, not frozen. Served with black beans, plain rice, pickled onions and homemade corn tortillas. Was definitely a hole in the wall. Local cat was cruising around inside the restaurant. Jumped up on a chair at our table to check out our seafood.. lol Restroom was cringeworthy. Part of the cultural experience. Others were having soups and nachos that looked great. Nice lunch but not quite up to the star rating on Yelp. Maybe the breakfast reviews are why the rating is so high. Worthy of a stop, authentic local food.

Hit or miss depending on what to get. Don't get - the beef fajita (170 pesos): it's a weird mix of arrachera and marinated meat, but pan-cooked and not at all like fajita. 1/5 - the filets isleño: tikin xic preparation (adobo-esque red sauce with onions), but wayyy too sour, and I normally put extra lime on everything. 1/5 Do get: - Mixed ceviche (5/5): fish, conch, octopus. Fish is chopped pretty finely but it's good. - Chile relleno with shrimp (6/5): the best dish here imo. Pepper lightly fried and juicy. - Sopa lima (4/5): solid chicken soup with rice and chips and lime juice squeezed in. Small portion though. Cutely painted inside and nice to sit out. Cash only and slowww service, but get a guacamole to chomp on some chips and come with patience. The pepper is worth it.

Wanted to try something off the beaten path. Local eateries are always better and good pricing. Husband and ordered chips and guac to start with. I got a agua de tamarindo he got a coke. I went ahead and ordered the chili reinos with shrimp. Delish!!!! No regrets. Both my husband and I got them. The pickled onions combine with the rice is yummy!!! This hit the spot for hunny and I. Small little hole in the wall. But those are always the best!!

Wow - we ventured into this hidden gem in some unseasonably hot weather. I was dripping sweat and the best part of the afternoon for me was the frozen mugs for beer. I didn't care for the margarita, but the beer was SO cheap. The food was out of this world - No words!

Top is the grilled octopus. Yes please! Bottom is the chille rhellano not on the menu. To die for!

Coconut shrimp were very good. They came with three large shrimp, black beans, and rice. Open air restaurant with beautiful wall paintings. Wait staff were attentive and accommodating.

The first time I visited La Lomita was over 15 years ago back when travel tips came mostly from books. While I haven't had every item on their menu, I've always made it a point to try something new when returning. 10/10. I have always felt satisfied to the point of needing a nap after. We are big on chicken soup at home and it's so it's comforting to know we can get home cooked chicken soup on Isla - just watch out for a bone or two. Highly recommend if you want real down home cooking.

They have the best enchiladas I've ever had. Service is great. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

I would've liked the actual meat of the fish to be more tender (it bordered on overcooked) but still I walked away plenty satisfied. It does have lots of tiny bones. Bread basket came with the most delicious roasted eggplant in oil, I could've eaten just that with the bread and been a happy camper. The roasted octopus was not bad but a touch too heavy on the sauces for me, I would've wanted more of the flavor of the octopus on its own. The potatoes under the octopus, however, were perhaps my favorite part of the whole meal. Everyone else seemed happy with their food - the catch of the day (with the fluffiest mashed potatoes) was a very popular choice. If you're sick of seafood, they have steak and braised brisket on their menu. Really cozy and romantic ambiance as well for if you want to dress up slightly. This place gets very popular for good reason; I liked the little bar counter they set up out front so you can watch the grilling in action.

Wow! The biggest ripoff in the island. Overpriced and undervalued. The service started great but…read morethey were not busy, as soon as more guest came, the service became slow and forgetful. Missing items we requested and having to ask a few times. The place looks nice and open with two levels. They are supposedly a "market" but it's a restaurant and a pier stop. People with their boast can come in. They have showers as well. We order the grouper (fish) and 1 dozen of oysters on the half shell. The fish came with the choice of rice, pasta or steamed vegetables. We decided to do the whole fish and get one filet out. I'm originally from an island so eating a whole fish is normal so I wanted to experience it again because back home where we live we don't have it. The fish was ok. It needed more flavor. Rice was hard and cold and not really tasty. The oysters were harder than usual. We ordered two of their Marbella sunrise (drinks) and they were good. Overall the food was NOT good or fresh. It made me sick! I got food poisoning. At the end of our trip in the island I got so sick I was puking on the beach and then walking the streets like a drunk person puking my guts out and not even with a buzz?! No thanks! My final advice? AVOID at all cost because what you will be missing here is your money from your wallet. Nothing special. Save your money and go somewhere else.
