I cancelled my membership at Castle Hill YMCA within days of joining because the staff here are…read moreflat-out rude and unprofessional. They spoke down to my children on multiple occasions, thinking the kids wouldn't tell me. I personally witnessed them being especially nasty toward Black children while sitting around gossiping and judging members like immature teenagers. To make it worse, some staff hid behind Spanish, assuming no one could understand their anti-Black comments. That is not just unprofessional, it's discriminatory and unacceptable. This is supposed to be a family-friendly, welcoming space--but instead, the staff create a hostile and toxic environment. If they keep treating people this way, they're going to end up with serious legal problems. I would never recommend this YMCA to anyone. And now, after I left a negative review, they've decided to try to paint my children as "troublemakers." This is nothing more than a weak attempt at damage control by staff who don't want to take responsibility for their own rude and discriminatory behavior. I also have never seen the pool being cleaned. Not another dime from me.

I really enjoy coming here for a good workout, around likeminded people, rather than any planet fitness.... Iykyk. My favorite time here is definitely the sauna, after a hard workout. 9 out of 10 times I've used it, it's always empty. And who could beat that view from the gym?! If you wanna get a good stretch in, or have your own yoga practice, there's a great, spacious studio just opposite the gym.You can access this area from the main door or the side (by the treadmills) . This room is filled with mats and other accessories you might need. Go in on leg day? They have an elevator that can take you up or down, should you need it.

It is extremely difficult to find an affordable gym with a swimming pool. During the summer I could…read moreget away with the NYC Parks free lap swim program but during the rest of the year I have to find a real gym that does not hurt your wallet (or require you to sell your organs on ebay). The Bronx House solves that problem for me. I am a big fan of the variety of fitness class offerings and indoor cycling is the most popular (the class fills up right after the previous ab class). Cherelle, who leads this class on Tuesdays, is a great trainer and puts the hurt locker on while making exercise on a stationary bike "fun". The pool is 25 yards and way shorter than an olympic size pool (50 meters). Size matters, eh? During lap swim hours, the pool is divided into two lanes: slow and slower. For those who need a good workout, be prepared to swim around your neighbors. During the summer, test your patience with all of the visitors with day passes. The gym and pool hours are limited and designated for classes and gender/age groups. If the location works for you and you can accept the limited schedules, join the Bronx House. The gym, with the TRX equipment alone is superior to most of the $20 gyms in the area. Make sure to review the calendar for holiday and maintenance closings. I have made the mistake of showing up on a holiday and doing the sad Charlie Brown walk of shame home. IFHTP 3+

Bronx House is currently mismanaged by a team of people who have no connection to the community. They have destroyed the School of Performing Arts which has existed for several years.
