Great food. we had the quesadillas as a starter and the queso fundido and they were delicious. During my trip to GDL we visited this restaurant twice the first time i got a torta aohgada it was very good, best one i've ever had. the second time we visited i got the aracherra plate which is basically carne asada. the meat is juicy tender and flavorful i recommed these dishes to anyone. i also got two drinks a Michelada and a "La Chata Casuela" both were pretty awesome! read more

The pozole here is amazing! We came here while on our trip waiting to check into our hotel. You got to arrive early or there will be a line outside the restaurant but trust me it'll be worth it! The servers are quick and attentive. Food is amazing. Try there hot chocolate, to freaking die for! The decor is very rustic/authentic to the tapatio culinary the state of Jalisco is known for. I am not sure why this restaurant has 4.5 stars because it is barely ok. The pictures of the food speaks for itself. It is a good restaurant if you are in a big group and the service is attentive, but I would not consider this restaurant as 4.5 stars in GDL in terms of quality. As homely as it may look and feel, the food tastes like it came straight out of aluminum cans and the ingredients are heavily processed. This may have been a great restaurant 20 years ago, but it has not evolved to the current state of gastronomy GDL has to offer. read more

It's so easy to make plans before a vacation but to actually execute them during a vacation takes a little of perseverance and luck. So after a day trip out of the city to an archeological site we made it back in time for a massive downpour. La Chata had been on our list for their excellent Yelp reviews so with a little luck it happened to be on the route back into the city and offered us sanctuary while we could regain our strength. It was a quiet evening at La Chata, perhaps best, the service seemed geared only for us. NICE. The menu is simple but for my American travelers don't kid yourself. If you are looking for Pozole, a soup like dish made with hominy and meat or Mole of three different varieties, this is your place. Looking for Carne Asada burrito, this is not your place. You will not find nachos or a taco salad here either, so quickly discard any preconceptions once you enter the cozy confines. Here's what to order. If you like Mole, either go with the Mole verde or the Pipian. Both are excellent even by my wife's standards. Be honest, I though she had one too many beers to able to give such a raving and rousing approval, but she was right on. The Mole poblano is very rich and unfortunately has way too many condiments or spices that detract from the Mole itself. The Pozole seems like a simple dish but there are more than a hundred ways to make it a disaster. My other three companions all agreed that the broth and the pork meat were perfectly executed. Tip: if you need more onions, shredded lettuce or limes, please feel free to ask. Pozole without those ingredients is like flying first class without the big comfy chair, blankets, and champagne. Another Tip: if you are scared to try the Mole, ask the waiter to bring you a sample of each so you can try it. The tostadas and the salsas at the table has all different flavors and levels of spiciness. My favorite was the guacamole salsa while my companions enjoyed the spicy red and the molcajete brown salsa. La Chata with multiple locations in Guadalajara is recommended for any traveler whether in a rain storm or not. Eat well my friends! read more

La chata has many traditional Mexican plates like posole, flautas, enchiladas, sopes, etc. Many delicious drinks like micheladas or aguas frescas. I recommend the chile relleno so so delicious it reminds me of my mothers. I just love the pianist that they have there he plays beautiful music, they also have a children's play area. read more

I went last Friday and the line was super long but went by pretty fast. I believe that I waited 30-40 minutes in line. Most parties were more than 3 people so it went by pretty quickly. I had the best waiter would spoke to me in English since my Spanish (Spanglish) isn't that great. I ordered the chicken enchilada's with the mole on the side. The enchilada was greasy but it was still good. Food was super cheap and the place stayed crowded during my whole stay in Guadalajara. Decent Mexican food. Larger sized quantities. Not quite as fresh as I would have hoped as far as the vegetables. However the tortillas are made in house. We waited in line about 45 minutes too, which seems the usual. Probably wouldn't go back considering the wait. However the food is very inexpensive. About $5 U.S. Dollars per plate. Completely overrated !!!. My first torta ahogada In Guadalajara and I was very dissatisfied . The meat was bland and the sauce lacked flavor I thought because there was a line out the door it would be great, but no . The queso fundido I would give a 5 out of 10. We also ordered a combo plate with chicken , a flauta , and a sope . The only thing I liked was the flauta . Matter a fact the only thing that I considered good was the Horchata . The salsas were also good and that why I gave 2 stars . I You know it's bad when the drink is the best thing . The service was good , but I don't think this place was worth the 30 minute wait . Wow! This place is great! We were in Guadalajara for a few very short days and ended up eating here every night and once for breakfast. The menu is extensive and everything we ordered on it was delicious. The Pozole Blano with Pollo was my favorite. The chicken was tender and delicious, the vegetables were fresh and beautiful and the flavors were scrumptious. The cooks and the wait staff are all sweet, friendly and very hard-working. I was told there are 3 locations in Guadalajara for La Chata. The location I went to (Av. Corona 126; check my storefront photo) is great place for traditional Mexican food and well worth dining at. The whole restaurant is clean and the staff is very attentive. The dining area is suited for small and large groups. The mens restroom was clean. I recommend going early so you can get good parking. My party was provided after dinner refreshments (small candies in yellow, green, red packets) with the bill. read more

I always go here when I visit Gdl. The Arrachera is always a good choice. This time I had the chicken mole Verde. It was good, the chicken was perfectly cooked.
