I am glad to have found them, as I have been eating their delicious authentic Mexican cuisine since I was a teenager. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla, with a side of black beans. Everything was cooked deliciously with lots of love as usual, and very flavorful. There were some issues with my online order, but they quickly worked to correct those issues immediately. Still, hands-down, my favorite taco place. The service was excellent as usual. There's always plenty of seating in the place. The food is always made fresh order, and amazing. They have a special where you can get three street tacos for $10. They were absolutely delicious as were the taquitos Dorados that I always get. Tacos 5 De Mayo Restaurant is nice for a quick meet up with a friend or a quick to go lunch. The place is relatively small and giving a "hole in the wall" taco spot, but don't let the outside fool you! They have a self service ordering station and seats where you can wait for your order and eat your food. I ordered two of the carne asada tacos because I was trying to save my money (it was $4/ taco). Upon sitting down, my friend and I were given tortilla chips to eat with our choice of sauces they had out on a stand. I liked the fact that they had different choices with different levels of spice. I got the spicy salsa to eat with the chips and it was amazing! My friend and I were very pleased with the level of spice and how fresh it tasted. A few minutes later, we got our tacos and there was a plethora of meat on the tortillas which I was very happy about because coming from DC, they definitely skimp on the meat. The taste was pretty good, definitely not the best tacos I've had, but did its job. My friend got the chicken tacos, which were a bit dry, but were saved by the spicy salsa we had with the chips. Overall I would give my experience a 3.6/5, not quite a 4 because of the price and the decent taste of the tacos, but still a really good spot to quickly get lunch especially if you're craving authentic tacos. read more

My Sunday lunch order from Tacos 5 de Mayo was completely accidental. I was able to easily order online for pickup through their website, but mistakenly thought I was ordering from a completely different restaurant. Best mistake ever, because I have never had Birria consomé that flavorful! The restaurant is small, but I did see a back patio which I'm sure has additional seating. The best part of my experience was the salsa bar. I took three different salsas home with me to try and each one was very fresh. I really appreciated the waitress/woman at the register asking if I wanted to go containers for salsa, because it was my first time there and I likely would not have thought to ask. Bottom line, if you want authentic tacos then Tacos 5 De Mayo is an option. On this side of PG County there are plenty authentic Mexican restaurants and Tacos 5 De Mayo is one of them. What keeps this place from receiving a 4* as a restaurant is the prices I don't believe are commensurate to the quality and portion sizes and the inside of the restaurant is somewhat unattractive. There are many Mexican restaurants in the area specializing in tacos that meet the mark in all three categories which are 1) quality, 2) price and 3) dining experience. Tacos 5 De Mayo's tacos sauces taste really good however I was hesitant to given them a try because they were all in open containers on a buffet; open for all to serve themselves. This clearly was a risk I took and certainly a sanitary risk, but it paid off because I didn't fall ill. I tried their chicken quesadilla, tacos al pastor, beef tacos and beef burrito. No complaints on the food. One thing to note is they strongly encourage ordering online even if you walk in or dine in. And parking is almost non-existent. Certainly this place will remain an option for me when I want authentic tacos. Give them a try. read more

Was in the area and wanted a bite to eat. Looked up what restaurants were around on Yelp and this place popped up, and since I can't ever turn down tacos, it was a done deal. I was pleasantly surprised - this place doesn't look like much from the outside, and it certainly wasn't busy on a Saturday afternoon, but the food really hit the spot! They also have outdoor dining set up in a little garden area adjacent to the building. My partner and I ordered the brisket taco special, two pork and cheese pupusas, a carnitas taco and two horchatas. The guy who rang us up also offered us chips and salsa and let us try both the "spicy" salsa and the mild on that they had to order. Fair warning the spicy salsa was SPICY. But the mild one was also full of flavor and had a nice texture to it - not too watery but too chunky. Oh and the horchatas are like a half gallon for $3. The containers they brought them out in were huge! As for the main entrees, I gotta say the pupusas were top notch. The pork and cheese inside was so flavorful and gooey. But the outside was nice and crisp. The tacos were good too. The brisket meat was tender and had a sweet but zesty flavor profile. Tacos 5 De Mayo takes out out of the D.C. area and into Mexico. It's a small brightly painted building along a major road with a small parking lot for customers. Once inside, you order at the register and they bring you your food. Here's our experience: 1) Food: It's excellent! Every table gets free chips and salsa. We weren't overly hungry so we each order two street tacos. They come double wrapped in corn tortilla with cilantro and onions. The brisket was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The chorizo was good too! Our toddler enjoyed her plain chicken taco and rice and beans. The guacamole is worth getting and their salsa range from mild to super hot. 2) Service: It's friendly, fast and attentive. 3) Space: It's no frills, but they have a little outdoor patio with shaded tables perfect on a sunny day. 4) Price: For quality tacos, they are very reasonable. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. If you have never been to Mexico understand that the food is made fresh and that it is light on the seasoning side. It is meant for you to taste the flavors of the cilantro and onions or what ever toppings you get. The salsa is mild and flavor and does not take away from the taste of the meat and toppings. If you are looking for Taco Bell flavor you will not get it here. All food is made to order. You can order online or call for pick up. This restaurant is not a bar. I was really excited to try this place and it was so-so. I was blessed to have grown up in an area with amazing Mexican food and I don't think this was at that level. Definitely okay food, but not GREAT. The al pastor had an okay flavor, but it didn't have that sweet and charred flavor it usually has. The marinade was kind of wrapped around and the meat and it made almost mushy? The carne asada has decent flavor (nice and charred), but wasn't super tender. It came with a side of chips and they were decent, nothing special. I also ordered some plantains with a side of sour cream. I didn't get the sour cream unfortunately because they forgot. I personally loved it: it was cut quite thin so they got super caramelized and kind of tough, but that's exactly what I liked. I also got their mango juice and it was absolutely massive and delicious. It had some mango chunks in it which made me believe it was fresh juice. I would order ahead of time because they do take a while, but they do give you the warning that they are not a fast food restaurant so they will not be fast. Highlighting this mom & pop taqueria that deserves a big shout out! Stumbled upon this because the outside is bright yellow which obviously caught my eye. Local place that serves big meals like tortas, grilled short ribs, and street tacos. The sauces they give you were filled with spicy flavors that enhanced everything! I liked how the tacos are seasoned differently from most Taquerias. My favorite sauce was the yellow habanero, they all had a little kick to them so be warned. Terrific Tacos with Excellent Meats I've been hankering for some pork and tacos recently, so thought 5 De Mayo would hit the spot as I haven't visited it yet. What stands out is the meat, in particularly the pork. While the al pastor did not appear to come off a rotating spit, it was much more tender than the ones I've had in the past, and had some cumin flavor. The portions of the carnitas were generous. The steak and chicken were very competent, but I would definitely recommend the pork, perhaps even ordering two of each before getting the stead and/or chicken. The other great thing about 5 De Mayo is the salsa bar, which had 4-5 different kinds of salsas. They're a bit on the watery side, I thought, but they still went great with the tacos and complimentary chips that came with each meal. The interior is spartan and functional, but this is a fine taco joint in an area that could use more quality restaurants. Stumbled into this unassuming spot and now hope to get back here again soon. The building and interior screams hole in the wall and there is very little decor inside, just a few tables and a salsa stand. But as long as the interior design doesn't phase you, what you do get is delicious, authentic Mexican food. Everything is fresh and homemade, from the taco shells and chips to the rice, beans, and salsas. They have a salsa stand full of around 8 different picos, salsas, and dips that you can help yourself to. I went with the Cinco de Mayo special and their taco shells were some of the best I have ever had without a doubt, so fresh and tasty. Each taco - steak, chicken, and pork were all packed with flavor. The rice and beans were each different from your normal side of rice and beans but they were delicious as well.
