Positive- was able to accommodate timing and were very nice Negative- charged $175 to just shorten a $100 Dress where I had the exact same dress in a different color altered at another tailor for $60. Also when I picked up the dress the owner said I should get it pressed before my event. I was shocked that I paid $175 and they couldn't even press it for me? I had to go to another place and pay $25 for it to be pressed. Lastly the underneath of the hem had many frayed strings it was not done well. I'm really sorry but this really upset me. read more

They did a fine job on the alteration itself but when I got this brand new dress back, there were small black dots all over it like it had gotten splashed with ink or something. This is a brand new bridesmaids dress that went straight from the package to this store. When I called about it, I was told there's no way this could've happened at the store. I needed to alter a bridesmaid dress for an out of town wedding with a very short turnaround (less than a week). I chose La Cleaners based on Yelp reviews. I called Wednesday, brought the dress in on Thursday. Realized I forgot the shoes I would wear with my dress, so returned Friday, and Tony had the dress taken in, hemmed and pressed for pick up Saturday. I was very impressed with the speed and quality of the work; the dress fit like a dream after the alterations. It's a no-fuss shop but I got what I needed. It IS pricey and I'd say that was the only drawback, since I couldn't compare prices given my time constraint. The alterations ultimately cost more than my dress, but since it's cute and fits well now, I'll be wearing it a lot! Lol. read more

I decided to visit La Cleaners based on the reviews here, and they did not disappoint. First, this is not a fancy place, it's a regular dry cleaner shop, but Tony is a very talented tailor, so don't let the "rough around the edges" look deter you. He absolutely knows what he is doing and will make your dress (or suit or other clothing I'm sure) fit you perfectly and look the way you want it to. Tony altered my lace wedding gown - hemmed it, added a bustle, and added sleeves. I had no idea what hemming a lave gown with a train entails, but it is not an easy process. Tony ended up bringing the dress up around my waist and then covering the seam with some extra lace I had purchased. I was really concerned about cutting out a piece of the middle of my dress, to say the least, but trusted Tony's advice and it turned out beautifully. The sleeves were something I had my heart set on, but had several people tell me would cause problems, even Tony said they would be difficult to do. Further complicating the problem, I had only purchased a yard of extra lace, and a bunch of that was being used for the waist hem. Tony worked around all the issues, and carefully conserved the lace so that we had JUST enough to make the cap sleeves I wanted, and do the hem I needed. I definitely had some sticker shock at the price, until I called around a bit and realized the starting cost at most other places was hundreds over his quote. The cost was certainly less than it would have been elsewhere, but making real changes to a wedding dress isn't cheap anywhere. I came to La Cleaners & Tailor in September, after I gave birth, hoping they could take out my very specialized and finicky dress. Because I couldn't zip up my dress around the ribs, Tony engineered a lace up situation that looked so good and seamless, that people told me it was their favorite part of the dress! Tony is a godsend!!! 5 stars doesn't even do Tony justice. I would rate Tony 100 stars if I could. He is seriously a magic worker. He did wonders with my wedding dress and I can't thank him enough. I bought my wedding dress 9 months before my wedding from a very nice bridal shop and an expensive designer. I ultimately had a horrible experience with the dress designer and didn't end up getting the dress until 4 days before my wedding. When I tried on the dress, it had so many flaws, including a long train with no bustle so I was worried it would be stepped on and ripped, and I was really nervous. I took the dress to Tony and he miraculously was able to fix everything in the short short amount of time I had!! He has an incredible eye and was able to point out immediately all the imperfections with the dress and let me know everything that needed to be fixed. He listened to exactly what I wanted and was able to execute exactly that. He kept telling me he wanted to do whatever he could to make me happy on my wedding day. He went above and beyond, even going so far as to fix the slip underneath. I know he stayed up really late working on my dress, and can't thank him enough!!! The train, on top of being so long with no bustle, was uneven on the two sides. The train had too much fabric to be able to add a bustle to it. Tony was able to cut off the train entirely to make it all the same length at the bottom. Tony didn't even stop there. He also pointed out that the slip was too long for me and he was worried I might trip on it. He also noticed the slip was uneven in the front and back. Tony was able to take up the slip and even out the lengths. The end result was a perfect wedding dress. It was an insane amount of work and Tony was able to finish in the short amount of time I had. Tony was completely unfazed the incredible amount of work and short turnaround time. I am SO impressed by Tony and his beautiful work and thankful to have found him. Hi so this review is not based off of their work. They did a great job altering my dress so I don't want to slam them with a bad review. The review is more so to make you aware of the pricing. It is EXTREMELY overpriced and I wish I had read the reviews more thoroughly before I picked this place. I paid $140 for a bridesmaid dress to be altered. All that was done was they took length off the bottom and inched up the leg slit to accommodate the difference in height. Nothing else. This is super unreasonable and more than the dress itself. They are also cash only FYI. So yes it's great work but it's just not realistic. Go elsewhere. I know I could have done this but it was too much hassle to walk elsewhere when the measurements and pinning had already been done. read more

Not sure what the fuss about this place is regarding wedding dress alterations. Took my wedding dress to have the straps taken out a little bit (they had extra length sewn in so you have the option of letting the straps out). Said it was going to be $55. I then ask if they are going to check for spots after in case something happens -- it's white silk, very easy to damage, thought it was a relevant question since they half draped it on something while I was there, and the place isn't sparkling clean. The guy says "it's your wedding day, no one will notice the small details of your dress if something is wrong! You won't care on the day" Sure, I say, but thinking all the while that is a very ironic thing for a dry cleaner to say to someone dropping off a piece of clothing to have painstakingly cleaned or altered, let alone about their wedding dress. I pick it up, it has not been steamed and there are threads apparent on the straps from where it was let out. Definitely not worth $55. read more

Great reviews led us to La Cleaners & Tailor when searching for a good tailor in our neighborhood. My husband's tailored tux pants and suit pants turned out wonderfully, as did my formal gowns. We were cautious, as our tailored items were not inexpensive, and we're pleased with the results. Husband tapered his tux pants and completely redid the seat (it was too large and baggy) and tapered and hemmed his suit pants. My silk gowns were hemmed and tapered at the sleeve and brought in at the waist. They were sincere about their recommendations and advised against alterations if they didn't think it was worth the cost. We appreciated that. BEST TAILOR IN BROOKLYN! Tony is the man. I needed a Zegna tux tailored last minute for a wedding and Tony took care of it like the boss that he is. There was a ton of tailoring work to do for both the jacket and pants since they were both too big and he did a fantastic job. Most places would probably ask for a month for that amount of work, but Tony got it done and got it done well in just a couple days. If you have something of high value and want someone with steady hands, come here. read more

Their attention to detail needs work. I have a Gloverall Monty coat, which is the original duffel coat used by the British Navy. Instead of buttons, it uses three loops of jute and wooden toggles to close the coat. Over time, friction causes wear on the jute loops, leading to fraying and ultimately breakage. This happened to one of the loops on my coat. Luckily, I'm one of those nerds that saves all of the replacement accessories that come with clothing, including a spare jute loop that came with my coat. So attaching the new loop is not rocket science. It basically involves measuring out the jute, twisting it THREE times (this will be important later), and then sewing the loop in four places (right next to the twists) to secure the loop to the coat. This is how the old, broken loop was attached. This is also how the other two, non-broken loops were attached. If I had a sewing machine I could do this myself. But I don't. Enter La. I took the coat to La and they said no problem, $15 and one week. Deal. I came back a week later and picked up the jacket, looked fine to me at first glance. But when I got it home, I noticed that something seemed off. Then I figured out that they had attached the loop with only two twists, instead of three. What made it especially noticeable was that the other loops had three twists, so the new loop was inconsistent and not in harmony with the rest of the coat. A mistake, but not a horrible, irreversible one. I went back to La and explained the issue. The woman who worked there was very defensive and said that she followed the old loop exactly. I showed her a picture from the Gloverall website to show that she was wrong. Even with photographic proof from the manufacturer, she kept insisting that she followed the old loop exactly. Her husband intervened and said he would fix it right then, which was nice. But then he attached the loop with contrasting black thread (jute is flax colored). When I pointed out that the other loops used flax colored thread, he saw that he made a mistake and fixed it. All the while, his wife was muttering under her breath, repeatedly, "I followed the old loop exactly, but he doesn't listen." Look, being a tailor is hard. Both of my parents were tailors. But it is detailed work, and that is what separates good tailors from bad tailors. So La needs work on that, as evidenced by the wrong number of twists, and then the wrong color of thread. What I found unacceptable was the woman's insistence that she had done the job right, when there was incontrovertible proof that was not true. No business is perfect, but a good business should own up to mistakes (not done here) and fix them (done here). Three stars for the job eventually getting done. But not taking anything to them in the future. If this is how they deal with simple jobs, not going to take a chance with anything complicated. read more

This is long overdue review -- I've been coming to La Cleaners for over 5 years! It's quite a commute for me since I live in South Brooklyn, but what keeps me coming back is their genuine care for their customers, fast and careful work. Tony and Lily are so friendly and always get the job done right. I've never had any trouble with the clothes I drop off. Regardless if I need it in 2 weeks or 2 days, they always try their best to accommodate requests. I've had my dresses tailored by them several times and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg like most places. Although it's cash-only, their prices are really reasonable, especially for this neighborhood! Recently my sister had her prom dress tailored. We said we didn't need it to be rushed, we can pick it up in 2 weeks but they surprised us a few days later saying that the dress was done! Wow!
