Love love love this small yet iconic and pretty much- historical theater! I heard about through friends that loved their teens improv shows then decided to take my 12-year old actor/daughter to their audition. And I'm SO glad I did! We went last night and auditioned with founder Kent. Such an inspiring experience! There were about 10 peoples ranging from 11 to about 30, and it was so cool to see them improvise and give their best. At the end, Kent spent time telling the story of the theatre's history and vision. He also gave very constructive feedback and tips on how to excel at improv, which was a great learning. I'm thrilled that my daughter Clémentine get the opportunity to joining their teen group on Saturdays! read more

My wife and I have been coming to see Kent and his merry band of merrymakers since about 1995. We're always treated to a great show, and it's like seeing old friends (even though only Kent knows me by name and face). We regularly bring groups there and have been known to celebrate our birthdays there, too. We get involved with shouting out suggestions, and sometimes we even get to participate in the games, making it all the more fun. And you can't beat the cost. It's a great way to spend a Saturday night: laughing so hard that you cry. read more

Excellent show. The performers were very interactive and spoke with us before and after the show. Loved yelling out our ideas they used for improv skits....felt like part of the show! Fun night! Bring a large group and some drinks...you'll have a blast. read more

What a hidden gem! Came with my kids and they thoroughly enjoyed the improv style comedy. Would recommend. Easily found street parking and there is a Porto's within walking distance. read more

I've been a member of LA Connection Comedy Theater since March of this year on one of their JV teams. Thursday May 12th, my team and several other teams from LA Connection Comedy Theater performed at The Comedy Chateau in North Hollywood; this included the theater's teen troupe. Kent Skov, the theater's owner, hosted and performed with the teen group at this show. At one point during the show, Kent was doing an improv scene with a young, teenage girl. The scene's suggestion was fruit, and the girl initiated the scene by saying something along the lines of "I really like dragonfruit!" In response to this, Kent said "That makes me horny!" He then continued to say things during the scene that insinuated he was getting an erection. After this show I spoke to my coach and immediately quit the theater, as I do not want to pay money to, perform for, or associate with a theater that is owned by a person who thinks that type of behavior towards a child is appropriate. If you are considering sending your child here, or attending this theater in any capacity, I would think twice. There are a lot of other theaters in the LA comedy community that have zero tolerance policies towards this type of behavior, and aren't owned by someone who is willing to behave this way publicly towards a child. read more

We went with another couple and had the best time. It was a rainy night, so a small audience, but this improv troupe gave it their all. Hilarious, inventive and so interactive with the audience. We're still giggling about it the next day. read more

Not your roudy iOWest in Hollywood, but just as funny. Skip the crazy of Hollywood boulevard for improv that is on par and even more intimate. Came here with my wife on a random Sunday night to see "It Squirts" the venue's Sat night improv crew. They were great and played multiple improv games directly with the audience. They didn't perform a long form improv at this show. Really enjoyed the intimate venue and the less crazy crowds, would definitely come back! read more

Came here and watched an improv show for the first time on a Saturday. Watched the 9pm show and you're allowed to stay for the 10pm show. The first show featured performers who have obviously been doing this for a long time. The second show had some younger performers and they were equally good, delivering laughs more geared towards a younger crowd. They've got a great thing going on here. Check them out! Bring your own drinks and food (in a cooler if you're real serious!) but be careful when you choose to consume anything because you don't want to choke on it. That would be embarrassing. read more

Wow...the deal on yelp was awesome! 2 tickets for $10 on ANY day! So, I bought tickets that Saturday (12/03/12) and went with my BFF. I was a little apprehensive about going because the reviews were hit and miss but luckily the price of the ticket cost less than a movie. Yup, I'm a cheap-ass! LOL It's kinda cool that you can go to the 8pm show and stay for all three shows. We only made it to the 2nd and 3rd that night. It's all improv and they feed off audience suggestions. The second show group was an older group but a lot funnier than the 3rd show group. I would've thought the youngins (from the 3rd show) would've been a lot more funnier but I was mistaken. Oh, well! Also, they really do encourage you to bring your own food and alcohol. Next time I will bring the entourage in tow with food and drinks. It will be a more fun filled experience especially since the place is hardly full at all. I can't wait to come back and laugh it up. :) read more

This theater is close to my heart because I took my first year of improv classes here. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for improv comedy. The improv classes are a great value because you can perform up to once or twice a week even when you're just starting out. All of the other improv schools in LA are pretty restrictive with their stage time. Kent, the owner, also provides students multiple opportunities to perform at the main stage at the Comedy Store, which is the experience of a lifetime. The only thing I don't like about the classes is that there is a lot of turnover with students, so it is hard to find a group that you click with enough to have a successful show every time. Seeing a show here is also a blast. I appreciate comedy clubs that don't force a drink and food minimum or exorbitant ticket fees. The BYOB nature makes for a fun night of comedy. I wish they marketed this place a little bit better so that the house was always as packed as it deserves to be. And yes, parking on Ventura is always a bitch but you come to expect that in the area. Overall this is a true LA landmark. I definitely hope it is around for years to come, so I can enroll my kids in their children's improv classes. read more

Well worth the entry fee. These actors did a great job keeping up the energy in the room and entertaining me through two shows. I would have stayed for more, but food was calling my name. I'll come back again for a later showing or when I've got snacks with me. read more

If your looking for a great place to take your date....come to this place. It's funny and fun. I brought my date here for our second get together. Parking is easy. I'm pretty sure someone I have seen on tv was performing. The actors were very good and kept me and my date entertained to the end. Love this place. read more

My husband found this theater on yelp so we attended the 10:30pm showing. I really appreciated the intimate atmosphere. The comedians were funny, very interactive, and really just a joy to watch. The set wasn't long so I'd recommend attending earlier showing and staying. I'm sure we'll be back. read more

The theater itself is in need of some upgrades and repairs as its on the older side and usually only one bathroom is working but the shows are top notch. We especially like the every other Saturday troupe "Consensual Emu". You have to check the theater for which Saturdays they perform but I highly recommend them. It's an 8-930 show and they have a live piano player and they always end with some form of musical parody. They don't serve food or drinks which is a shame but there are a couple of restaurants around them (like Porto's and a Poke place) and you can bring your own. You can bring the young kids but some of the comedy might go over their heads. I would defiantly say it's more appropriate for 17 and over! Your ticket price gets you in all night so you can come for the professional troupe and stay for the Rookies after if you want. "Consensual Emu" offers 5.00 discount tickets on their website which is a steal for a live show! All in all it's a fun night out! read more

We did the Kids Improv show done by teens. We had a blast! Purchased our tickets through Goldstar at for $2.50 plus fees = $5.00 and we enjoyed every minute. My 7yr old had a blast! They greeted us wonderfully and I love that they incorporate the audience for the show. I'd do it again! We found parking down the street but honestly there's so much to see and do, a nice walk is always great! read more

I didnt know what to expect when I came with my three kids ages 11,13 and 14. My 14 year old really wasn't wanting to go but I took him anyway went to the 5:30 pm Saturday evening show and paid $7 each at the front door. Gold star sells tickets for $5 but you need to buy them by 3 pm that day. I was surprised that my 14 year old couldn't stop laughing. It was a nice family night out as we arrived early and walked up and down magnolia thrift shopping then went to see the improv. read more

Four stars because it only cost me $7 bucks to get in (through Goldstar) Maybe I haven't gotten over this feeling of being ripped off from the Ice House last week, or maybe I was just surprised that it was so cheap! The location is really small- a little building with Christmas lights out front, looks shabby. The seating area can accomodate about fifty people. I went there on a Sat night for Improv comedy, which is what they're known for. It's kind of like Whose Line Is It Anyway? I was a bit disappointed that they don't serve drinks. In fact, they only have vending machines. But hey, BYOB! *No, really, that's what it says on the website. The show was SO funny, my cheeks hurt from laughing. You have to go there at least once. I loved it and am planning to get back soon. p.s. Small crowd. Very interactive show. Write your own lines and throw it in the basket, they use it during the show! read more

The LA Connection Theatre is guaranteed to please. We attended Saturday night January 8, 2011. My family caught the 8 and 9 PM show and would've loved to stay for th 10, but we had an hour ride home. I give the cast a great deal of credit for trying their best to keep the show family friendly. Improv is tough and this group manages to be very funny while not stepping too far over the line. The cast really went the extra mile to interact with us. The theater is great, clean and very intimate. Amazing that they can keep the place in such great shape since they allow you to bring in food and drinks from the outside (who does that anymore?). We will definitely be back again soon! read more

Went on a Friday to watch 2 Drink Minimum. At first I thought that meant I had to buy 2 drinks there, but it was just a parody of all the other expensive mainstream comedy clubs out there. You can bring your own snacks and drinks!! It's a very small theater with maybe about 60 seats total. Make sure you get involved with writing down their requests for topics before the show and yell out ideas for them. This made it so much more personal and entertaining. They actually picked out one of the topics that I wrote and used a lot of the topics I yelled out! I am glad I found LA Connection, and I plan on telling all my friends in the Valley about it! It sure beats watching a movie, and you can support your local arts! read more

The night we went was probably an off one...as almost everyone seemed to be on stage for the first time, or close to it. It is a small theater, with the front row no more than 5 feet away from the stage, which is pretty cool. The staff were all very friendly, the place seemed clean, parking was very easy. We will probably one day, try it again..but maybe check to make sure it is a night with 'regulars'. read more

We came for the 9PM All-Star show on a Saturday night. Arrived early but we were encouraged to go ahead and catch the end of the show already in progress. It was alright. Fast forward to 9PM-10:30... A full house. I got an ab workout from laughing so hard. It was seriously good stuff. Fast forward to 10:35. Only about 10% of the audience stayed to see the next show. It wasn't really funny. We left. But the 9PM cast was hee-hee-larious. Fo sho! And BYOB! How can you go wrong? read more

This is where Matthew Perry and I had a moment. Yes, it was the summer of 2013 and I was celebrating a friends birthday. As we were paying, TV's beloved Chandler walks in. He was greeted by the woman that was charging us and was able to get in for free. I said, "oh, we are with him." MP said, "yes, all these guys are with me." we all laughed... it was great. What I really, really enjoyed here (besides being able to bring your own drinks!! woooo hoo!) is the amazing comedy! Improv peeps amaze me with their quickness.. Many laughs were had and I truly appreciate the uniqueness of each skit since we all participated in it!! LA connection is a great hidden gem! read more

Held my baby girl's 4th bday here. What a fun and a hilarious way to spend a birthday for a young one. Ken is very accomodating and very good with the kids. Bring balloons, table linens, and party decors for the backroom where you will have the guests eat. We're thinking of doing it all over again for my teenage boy's birthday come November and watch the teenage comedy this time. read more

What a great time for kids on Sunday afternoon! Improv Performance by kids ranging in age from 8-13. My son and his friends (9 years old) had such a great time. Watching kids their own age was a blast for them, the performers are very funny also. If you have two hours or need to kill a Sunday afternoon I highly recommend taking your kids! Cost less than going to a movie too! read more

Made it to the 9pm Saturday show and had a blast. The entire cast was very talented and all equally hilarious. Love the fact that it's BYOB. Walking into the little theater with our wine glasses, my friend and I instantly got picked on. For the rest of the night, we were reffered to as the "winos." I got called on stage for the bell and buzzer bit made the entire experience more interactive and memorable. This was my first time at an improv show and I have every intention to come back! read more

This is the comfort food of improv comedy. The theater is unimposing and even a bit drab, the staff mellow, the obligatory self-celebratory posters ancient and hidden in shadow. I'm pretty sure their web site was the third or fourth ever created. We've been to two shows and the room was never more than half full, on a Friday night. We could make a reservation by leaving one person's first name, no advanced purchase required. Despite the modest trappings, the talent is top-notch, and the performances on par with anything I've seen at Groundlings, UCB, and other high end improv places around the country. The performers had the kind of boundless energy, instincts for cooperation, and quick mental reflexes that create a great improv show. They seemed to be genuinely having fun, and (as sometimes happens in Hollywood) didn't give you the sense that they'd rather be elsewhere. We've only been to one particular timeslot, so you mileage may vary if you see other acts than we did. But at $10 for "stay as long as you want" it's a great deal, and a welcome contrast to the overcrowded / self-important / good-luck-finding-parking vibe of Hollywood. read more

Established in 1977.

Since 1977 the LAC has been dishing out hilarious live improv comedy shows for all ages. Also known for live movie dubbing of old movies and the cult hit TV series "Mad Movies with the L.A. Connection" that aired for 7 years. Voted "Best Improv Group" 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 by Myfoxla.com. Voted "Best Comedy Club in LA" 3 of the last 4 years. Famous alumni include Will Ferrell, Matthew Perry, Hank Azaria, Josh Groban and Shannon Elizabeth. LAC produces 600 unique improv and comedy events every year and shows are geared fo all ages. LAC has 200 performers ranging from ages 5 years to 80 years old. Young kids 5-15 perform weekly Sundays at 3:30pm, teens perform weekly Saturdays at 5:30pm and adults perform every weekend ranging from rookies, JV"s, new all-stars to veteran all-stars. Meet the Business Owner: Kent S.

Kent Skov founded the LAC in 1977. Skov was a member of the Committee in San Francisco where he worked with Del Close. Skov has worked with Second City founder Paul Sills and academy award directors Marty Pasetta, Lou Horvitz and Don Mischner. Skov is a member of the DGA,WGA and SAG/Aftra. He worked on many late night variety shows including Dolly Parton, Rick Dees and Alan Thicke. Skov was the mastermind behind the cult hit dubbing series Mad Movies that ran for 7 years on Nick at Night, MTV and syndication.A Mad Movies book hit shelves in 2014. Skov was nominated for a CableAce award for "Best Comedy Special" on A&E network. Skov has had deals with Dick Clark, Syfy, Fox, Disney, Universal, ABC, NBC, A&E and MGM to name a few. Currently Skov has 3 series in development with MPPTV producers of Ghost Stories on A&E. Skov is offering a 4 week introductory class in improv with a show and some students may be asked to join the performance groups. Skov trained Will Ferrell & Matthew Perry.

I paid $65 per ticket (general admission), and from the moment we arrived, everything felt disorganized and careless. Even just to stand at the bar, we were forced to wait outside in the cold for over 15 minutes while the previous show wrapped--no courtesy, no staging, no communication. When we were finally let in, it somehow got worse. Instead of being seated inside the venue we paid for, we were told to sit outside. No heaters. We were instructed to grab our own chairs, which were dusty and dirty. This felt less like a comedy club and more like an afterthought. Service was a mess. Servers were visibly confused, delivering the wrong food and drinks, not knowing which orders belonged to which tables. It was chaotic and unprofessional. The sound was awful. You could barely hear the comedians, and even they acknowledged how bad the setup was. When performers are openly commenting on how much of a disaster the room is, that says everything. As we were leaving, I tried to look into the actual room we were supposed to be seated in--the one we paid for--and was told I wasn't allowed to even look inside. When I mentioned that I paid $65, the response was, "You don't need to bring that up." Why wouldn't I? That's the entire issue. For the price they're charging, this is unacceptable. I honestly can't imagine how angry I'd be if I had paid for VIP or front-row seating. This place feels like it's cutting corners at every level--operations, service, sound, and basic respect for customers. There are far better comedy clubs in LA that actually care about the audience and the performers. Save your money. Spend it literally anywhere else.

Popped into this shoebox theater to see some stellar local comedians and support a friend of a friend doing a set here and was pleasantly hahaha. Tickets are only $5 and include a beverage of choice in the non-alcoholic and/or craft brew family... LA Croix and Hard Kombucha... Could this be anymore LA? Don't answer that because it couldn't lol even down to the limited parking in the area. Street is recommended to avoid any towage and there is some of that especially if you arrive early. Usually only room for three chairs to a row on both sides of the theater so if you bring a friend or two you can most likely sit together as my roommate, his girlfriend and I did. Everyone was really friendly, fun and the Tarzana Boys who headlined did a great job as the MCs. There is a restroom in the backroom for before and after shows. The acoustics are pretty solid being a 25 to 30 person space. Definitely will come back and support. Solid spot for a date or just get out of the house night.

He mixes mocktails himself and gently welcomes everyone like he fucking lives there and wants you to feel like his personal guest. Definitely had a great and positive experience with NCLA and would attend again.
