An absolutely awesome park that somehow overlooked reviewing after all the UYE potluck picnic parties that my fellow Yelper "Queen of the North" Karen N has organized year after year right here! And I've only missed a couple picnics. I always have to make a hell of a drive up here with or without family or dog in tow and actually can't wait to arrive! It is this nice. And I thought I was dreaming when I saw spotless bathrooms that actually have toilet paper and soap in the dispensers. In a public park! Unheard of for sure in my central SD 'hood. Not since I was a wee young lad do I remember that. More than anything, we have trouble keeping the tents and tweekers out of our nearby parks.. Suburban aggressive bravery is needed more than ever to challenge an conquer these types. Nothing of the like here- it's as if there's a shield or checkpoint to cross into the other side. You can walk up the nicely groomed grass hill and there are walking trails too. Many dogs come for frisbee and fetch-the-ball practice as well. We bring our little Lola which we keep in and out of her dog stroller. Amazing views in a quiet, gorgeous neighborhood that is the perfect meeting spot for daytime picnics. La Costa Canyon Park - Such a great park for views - Parks Near Me - Carlsbad, California

What a beautiful park! I don't live anywhere near this park, and would never have heard of it had the smart and talented Karen N. not have planned her annual holiday UYE in this park. I understand that this is where she plans it every year, and now I see why. It is not a huge park. It is really more of a small, neighborhood park. They have a large parking lot, and even on a relatively busy Sunday, there was plenty of space for my car with several open spots available. The park is well-manicured. There are a couple of playground areas, permanent picnic tables, and plenty of trash and recycle bins. The bathrooms were clean, flushed, had TP, and the sinks and dryers functioned perfectly. For those of us like myself, this is very impressive as I am used to dirty beach bathrooms. Of course the selling points for me is that alcohol and dogs are allowed. I was able to enjoy a Sauvignon Blanc from a favorite winery while hanging out with my spaniel who I enjoyed taking everywhere. There were several dogs in the park and I was able to meet a few of them. This is a lovely park. If you live anywhere nearby, I recommend spending some time there for a dog walk or a picnic. read more

This is a park that has a lot to offer. There is parking, but not a large amount. The park has covered areas with table and a few that are out on the open. There are rest rooms and a play area. If you are in this area, this is a perfect venue for get togethers or some family time. read more

Nice park with clean bathrooms, BUT people treat this as a dog park, which I don't believe it is. The dogs run loose without a leash and charge at other people and the clueless owners aren't even paying attention or they give you the line, 'oh don't worry, he's friendly' as the dog is running full bore directly at you while barking ferociously. It's a nice park when the dogs aren't there, which unfortunately is almost never. I'll never understand how some dog owners think it is fine for their dogs to run loose, oblivious to the fact that a lot of people are afraid of dogs, or are small kids or elderly people who would get injured if their dog knocked them down. Wish Carlsbad would put up signs indicating if dogs are allowed or not, on or off leash. There is no signage about dogs at all, which makes me think they are not allowed, as that is the default for parks in Carlsbad. read more

Nice park! Good playground for the kids. Picnic tables are ample, and others can be reserved for a hefty price. Basketball court, dog play area, not a lot of parking, and only one disable stall. A couple of big trees, more shaded trees where the pricey tables are at. PLUS PLUSE the bathrooms are CLEAN!!! read more

One of the best kept secrets (shush!) In North County! A park that's clean, well maintained, not crowded, and has Jen G approved bathrooms? Dude, score! We started coming here because we needed a place for our Yelp picnic 3 years ago. One of the Yelpers lived near by, and suggested this as a good spot. He was right, it was great. With a basketball court, tennis court, kids play structure & swings, a trail, and a covered picnic area, this park has a lot to offer in a fairly compact space. It has a clean bathroom (with seatcovers, when do you see that in a park?!), and quite a few parking spots. It also has a side wall with gorgeous flowering vines. This is a great little oasis, hidden in La Costa. But you didn't hear that from me. read more

This is a beautiful public park nestled within the canyon's neighborhoods. While somewhat secluded (you'd never know it exists unless you live nearby), the seemingly humble size actually boasts a multipurpose space--playground, shaded picnic area, basketball court, beach volleyball court, tennis courts, and a separate fenced area for off-leash dogs. While probably frequented more by local residents, it's a good option for group gatherings; the parking lot has space for about a dozen or so cars. This quite and secluded park with a little something for everyone. If you didn't live in the neighborhood or weren't brought here for a special event, you probably wouldn't even know it exists. There seems to be plenty of parking in the lot and in the nearby neighborhood. The basketball court was a hit with the kids and adults. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The covered tables was a nice touch. (Depending on the location of the sun, the tables may not be as covered as I like, so take that into consideration when planning your event.) There is a large area with a few more tables but those tables were not covered. If you brought your own covering, I think they would make a better area for a party than the covered tables due to the view. read more

La Costa Canyon Park is very well hidden; it has lots of shade trees, and a good supply of playground sets and swing sets. It also has a number of picnic benches, as well as a volleyball court, several tennis courts, restrooms, and a half basketball court. The playgrounds are decent, but the fact that they've got sand flooring is a minus in my book :-( Last, but decidedly not least for me, is the primary reason I'm giving this place only three stars - it's got WAY too many rattlesnakes for a park that's supposed to be kid friendly! Gorgeous park in the middle of North County San Diego! This park is really clean and the bathrooms even have toilet seat covers! There are benches and plenty of shade for the hot summer season! I really like that this is nestled in the middle of a neighborhood so there aren't too many cars bustling by. It's a fairly small park but it's big enough to have a jungle gym, swings, a volleyball court, and plenty of parking! read more

A nice public park tucked in a residential area in Carlsbad. For the people that live here they can consider this their neighborhood park. With a playground including some swings I would definitely take my kids here on a play date if I had any kids. Times like this make me wish I was a young kid again. For the kids-at-heart there's a sand volleyball court, basketball court and two tennis courts. There's also several benches surrounding the park with one area with a roof covered. This is perfect for low-key gatherings such as birthday parties. There's a reservation system if you want to reserve a block of time for your gathering. According to the description the 2.6-acre park contains a scenic overlook with views to the Pacific and is connected to the citywide trails system. One of these days I'll have to find this out for myself. Kid-friendly as well as dog-friendly, there's also plenty of parking in the park along with side parking along the residential area. read more

Good little park in a residential neighborhood. My girls call it "secret park" because it's tucked away and never crowded. It has a nice play structure area with shade nearby from mature trees and shad structure. There are restrooms, a full basketball court, sand volleyball court and tennis courts. There is also a gated area a bit away from the sandy playground with some short trails that are good for dogs. read more

This playground really has everything here!!! Basketball courts, Tennis courts, and sand volleyball courts. This is indeed a hidden park. It has lots of trees to shade it. Swing sets, three playground sets, lots of picnic benches, a small hiking trail with little plots of picnic areas. Tennis courts, volleyball court, a half basketball court, and a restroom facility. I don't like sand flooring for playgrounds so that's a minus for me. The rock structure in one of the playground sets was a unique and fun feature for kids. What scared me about this park, and why I'm giving it 3 stars, is that I know there are signs warning of rattlesnakes but I wasn't expecting to encounter one. I was going up the hiking trail with my kids, and we heard the loud rattle in the bushes 30 feet from us in the direction we needed to go to, to get back to the playground. It is a nicely shaded park, watch out for snakes. read more

This park is amazing. It's off in a little neighborhood nor near any main streets. The parking has never once been full and is directly lining the park. The park is mostly fenced except near part of the parking lot. The park has sand and no bark. There's a shaded area with plenty of benches/tables for a party. There's also a sand volleyball put and a basketball court. Up top there's a tennis court. I like it because it's back in a neighborhood but open to the public, it's quiet, good shade, and usually not crowded. read more

I would call this place more of a playground than a park, but it does have several amenities that you might be looking for. First of all, don't use Apple Maps to get here. It took me to the middle of a residential area about 10 minutes away from the park. However,once you do find it, there is ample grassy area to walk your dog, and there's a small dog park in the back. They also have a basketball court,volleyball court, and playground for the kids. There are restrooms if you need them as well. If you're looking to have a small picnic with friends, you might want to stop by! read more

Beautiful. I love all the natural trails surrounding the park. Also, there is a beautiful view of the ocean, a perfect place to watch the sunset. The playground is very nice and there are even a couple big trees that the kids can climb. This park is a hidden gem! read more
