Hugo D took me to an off-the-beaten-tourist-track restaurant for an incredible Italian dinner. It's in a residential area but still walkable from our hotel. It looked like we were the only tourists. What a neighborhood gem!
We had sidewalk seating which was perfect for a warm summer evening. Our waiters were nice, attentive and explained the specials on a board. The menu is formal Italian with starters, first course, main and dessert. I should've listened as I ordered too much food!
Every plating came out beautiful. This is gastronomical modern Italian for foodies. My starter was a heavenly Foie Gras with black umbro truffle, always a treat since it's basically banned in the US.
First course was a special, Tagliatelle al Pesto. The delicious dish included some tasty long green vegetable that I couldn't identify but it wasn't asparagus.
My Rack of Lamb was spectacularly plated and perfectly seasoned and grilled. It was one of my favorite main entrees of this trip.
Hugo said his Veal Cheek braised in Wine was a great choice and his favorite was his first course, Spaghetti "allo Scoglio" which came with a lot of seafood.
I'm sure we were so full that we skipped dessert and just had cortado.
La Cucina Italiana is definitely a gem worthy trek a bit away from the tourist zone. read more
