Empanada Pollo & Arroz Con Gandules

I ordered from them on DoorDash and was extremely disappointed. I feel like I wasted my money. I ordered 2 Empanada de pollo/ Chicken empanadas. They were pretty big, but both of them were only half full. The left side of each had no filling at all. The chicken was nasty though. I didn't like those at all. I ordered a medium of the Arroz con Gandules / Rice with Pigeon Peas and it was a pretty big portion, but the rice didn't have much flavor. It was just okay. I did enjoy the Maduro / Sweet Plantains. I ordered a Jugo de Limón / Limonade, but I didn't even receive it so I can't comment on that. I won't be ordering from here again.

Mashed Plantains - Better than I could have imagined. I'm googling recipes now.

For the main course I got mofongo with creamy chicken. It was bland and the modongo was hard and dry. The cream sauce reminded me of Alfredo, but it was on the bland side. The chicken within it was dry and tasted like microwaved chicken breast covered in white sauce. Would try something else next time. My fiancé got the ribeye and that was cooked to his liking with good seasoning and very tender. The server was very nice, however very slow. Had to go up to her and flag her down multiple times throughout dinner and especially when we were trying to get the check. I had to keep reminding her because she would come then leave "to get it" but then went behind the bar and was talking to people. Then would come by and ask if we needed anything, and after the fourth time it was very annoying.

Honestly, have you ever came across a hole in the wall where you just walk or drive past it…read moreeveryday and you wonder to yourself: "The hell is this place with the big sign and flourescent lights"? I thought the same thing as I would aimlessly walk and drive by past this Spanish establishment. Low and behold, welcome to Rancho Tipico. This place is pretty much your mom and pop spanish meat shop with all the fixings meat lovers crave for. I'm a common man and usually go for what seems the most appealing to me (which usually means fried and meaty) and the options that they have for appealing looking meats are top notch. I speak very little spanish but my go-to dish is usually the chicharrones y arroz con frijoles. Basically pork rinds and rice with beans. Although the meat is usually dry and pretty salty, the juice that comes from the meat is ever so savoring and the complimentary limet that comes with it is the cherry on top. The yellow rice that I usually get with the meat is also tasty as well. It has a nice light bitter taste with it, which is accompanied by a mix of capers. It literally is a nice touch for the meal. Best part about this place? The portions are godly. Literally just 8 bucks of the aforementioned dish can put your azz in a food coma. The location is a bit strange though, as I said before the decor isnt really the most appealing of all places knowing to the fact that it is in the middle of the projects and the ever growing capitalist buildings of UMass Lowell. Finding parking is almost impossible during lunch hours (or any time for that matter), and someone like I would only go here after class. Its a pretty tough spot to find parking for.

When we got there we were a little confused because it was also a store. towards the back they have a little restaurant and a menu where you can choose how many pieces of chicken you want with fries or plantains. However, while we were waiting in line we talked to someone that frequents the establishment and they said to not order off of that menu and just go further down the line and order off what's on the table. So I took her advice and ordered some Spanish rice with chicken stew and one piece of fried Chicken. The food smelled amazing the entire drive home and when we got home we started to eat. There was a lot of rice which is great but not needed and the chicken was very good. I actually preferred the fried over the stew but that's just me. I'm sure if I had more of the stew sauce on the rice it would have made a bigger difference but I didn't have a lot on my plate. Over all the places good and I would love to go back again and try something new.
