People - 10/10 Food - 7/10 Drinks - na Decor - 6/10 Restrooms - (didn't use) So my friend and I were in the mood for some Dominican food so we ended up checking out this place. When we got there we were a little confused because it was also a store. towards the back they have a little restaurant and a menu where you can choose how many pieces of chicken you want with fries or plantains. However, while we were waiting in line we talked to someone that frequents the establishment and they said to not order off of that menu and just go further down the line and order off what's on the table. So I took her advice and ordered some Spanish rice with chicken stew and one piece of fried Chicken. The food smelled amazing the entire drive home and when we got home we started to eat. There was a lot of rice which is great but not needed and the chicken was very good. I actually preferred the fried over the stew but that's just me. I'm sure if I had more of the stew sauce on the rice it would have made a bigger difference but I didn't have a lot on my plate. It's a market with a counter where the staff are continuously cooking. To my surprise they had fried pork. I had to have it. And it was delicious. Great place. Very good food and service. Ambiance is very familiar, so you feel like home. Definitely chicharrón and fried chicken top dishes.

We got a huge meal here for less than $20.00 for two people WITH lots of leftovers. I like that you can tell them which portion size/price you want ($3.00/$5.00 etc) They have fried goodies like empanadas, pork belly, fried chicken, rice, beans, stews,etc. This worked out because I was able to sample everything without spending a lot of money. Language is a small barrier, you just point to what your want through the window display and tell them the price of how many you want. The chicken thighs were flavorful and tender. The rice was good. OK so where do i begin ? remember growing up and having all these special treats and places you went to where you knew they made the best of what they sold , those mom and pop old school , old world skilled craft with culinary ? well this is one of those places you will never forget if you were lucky enough to grow up up in this city and find and experience. Places like these are disappearing and commercialized chains are replacing them and its sad for our youth to be deprived of these great places. i have been coming here well over 10 yrs now for the best fried chicken, Dominican Food specialties such as Yellow rice with beans , braised chicken and beef, empanadas , chicharhones,white rice and betuelas, plantains and any other common cultural foods and i have not been disappointed once at the quality or price of food . this place is a take out only and a convenience store where you can buy all kinds of items and drinks, while there may be a line certain times of the day such as lunch and dinner it is well worth the wait IMO. where can you go and buy a plate of food for $5, $7, $10 and just about feed 3 people ? the husband and wife owners , children and employees who work there are a very nice hard working people and are a huge gift to the community and the people of that Lower Belvidere neighborhood. I came here for the first time to get food for my Puerto Rican husband but I am non Hispanic. I was worried no one would speak English but everyone did. There are two women cooking in the back of the small market and you pay at the convenience store counter (they do accept all forms of payment). I did not see posed prices. I ordered the daily special of yellow rice and two pieces of fried chicken. The chicken was not fresh and only received a back that was mostly skin and a very small leg. It tasted like reheated chicken. The rice was about 3 cups worth at least. I also got two papas which were very delicious and my total was $7.50. The cooks were making the rice and tostones fresh. Food is delicious, you can't go wrong with chicken and rice. Everything else is great too. When ordering there is a language barrier but if there's no one around to help translate then simply pointing out what you want and tell the price for the amount you want. $5 chicken plus $5 yellow rice will feed one person very well. read more

Good Dominican takeout food served out of a small, friendly grocery store. Los Amigos serves typical fare for Dominican food that you find everywhere in Lawrence without having to drive all the way to Lawrence. The quality isn't quite as good as what you'll find in Lawrence, but it's good enough. I ordered 1 chicharrón, yellow rice (huge serving), and maduros (plantain) for $6. I'll have to go back to check out their fried chicken and empanadas, but I'm expecting the same result - good food, not quite as good as going to Lawrence, at a great price. Update 07/06/2017 Went back for the chicken today. Got one piece of fried chicken, one piece of baked chicken, one beef patty, and a side order of white rice and beans (MORO DE HABICHUELAS). This time I needed help communicating with the person taking my order, but a guy behind me translated what I was asking for. The meal cost $6. The beef patty was typical. The filling was flavorful, but there's always too little filling in every beef patty. I just buy them as a quick snack while driving home. The fried chicken was crisp, moist and flavorful. The baked chicken was like any supermarket roast chicken. For some reason, both the fried and baked chicken had an orange color to them. Maybe it was something like annato that caused them to look orange, but that was a bit of a turn off for me. Overall, the fried chicken was good, but I'll be sticking to chicharrons and yellow rice on my next visit. read more

1st time we came here, we had a nice lady serve us and we got our food right away. We came here again and we were 2nd in line placing our order. Then about 13 people walked in after me & placed their orders and got them RIGHT AWAY, they were in & out quick. While I was still waiting for my order for 30 minutes. Mind you I'm Asian. Definitely will not be coming back. Not sure if it's because they prioritize their own race?? But I didn't feel welcome anymore and just left because I waited way too long for food I didn't get at all. While everyone after me had received theirs instantly. Very disappointed in the service. Food is fine when it's fresh but let's address the fact they're RACIST. Sent my (white)friend to pick up some chicken and rice, which is pretty good and it's only like 5$ a plate that fills you up but they're sooo rude. How is it when any spanish person walks in they're greeted and smiled at but when someone who isn't latino goes in they treat you like you're an alien and want to overcharge you?? This is a hidden gem!! For 3 or 5 or 7 or 9 or 10 $$$ etc. You can have some delicious food at your amount required and price you are looking for. If you spend $3.00 you will be full or very close. At $5 even a big guy will be full never mind 7 or 10 etc. We got white rice with beef in the red sauce with extra red sauce on the rice. Always delicious and nice staff. read more

This place is absolutely amazing I would have given it 5 stars but our waitress went Mia and after 15 minutes another waitress had to come cash us out. But it is clean and super cute inside. The bar is beautiful we ordered Empanadas and they were some of the best we've ever had. They are super cheap and delicious. The menu has the perfect amount of variety from fish to tacos and very fresh! If we lived closer we would for sure be regulars! This is for sure a hidden gem type of place read more

Love going here! There's usually a little line every time I go but, it's really that good and is worth the wait. The beef stew is delicious and the chicken is to die for. My boss ordered take out for lunch and I was in heaven! Their food is addicting. I could eat pastelitos allll day. I went their myself a few weeks later. It's a small market. The ladies making this delicious food don't speak English but were very patient with me. The lady at the front counter ended up helping me which I really appreciated. Please tip they deserve it!
