Went today for some warm rolls and found this. I wish them well in their retirement but I am heartbroken.

We were having lunch at King and I Thai when we spied this bakery across the street and decided to walk in. What a nice visit we had here. The first thing you see is a giant pile of fresh Portuguese rolls. In the showcases are all sorts of baked goodies - cookies, pastries, croissants you name it. We were lucky to walk in on the weekend, when they offer Portugese egg tarts (pastel de natas). They were amazing, delicate and creamy and oh so fresh, sort of like a cross between a popover and cheesecake.. We also picked up a few simple coconut macaroons (not the foo foo macarons), but the coconut laden macaroons. They were huge in size with a ton of intense coconut flavor.

    Macaroon and espresso.

I love this little Portuguese bakery and have been going there for years. The service is very friendly and the bake goods couldn't be fresher. I ordered a macaroon with an espresso totaling $3, I doubt you'd find a better value with the same quality. The macaroon was loaded and I mean loaded with coconut and was the perfect late afternoon snack on my "food crawl" through Hartford.

The ONLY place around that sells pastel de natas (portuguese egg tarts). Friendly service, great pastries--a must try!

Best Portuguese rolls in town. True Portuguese crusty with a light airy inside, melt in your mouth and awesome espresso.

Afterwards I stay downstairs and experienced the coffee shop. I ordered a gluten-free breakfast sandwich, which was really good. The bread was a bit firm, but I actually appreciated that since most gluten-free bread tends to fall apart. This one held up nicely. My honey latte was absolutely delicious, smooth, perfectly sweet, and beautifully made. There's also a cute outdoor seating area, great for relaxing with coffee on a nice day. Parking is on the street around the corner, since the street the shop is on is closed to cars and open to pedestrians only, which adds to the charm of the area. You order at the counter, get a number, and they bring your food right to your table. When you're finished, you clear your own dishes to the bin, which keeps the place tidy. I also noticed the staff going around regularly wiping tables and keeping everything clean and welcoming. Overall, Bloom Bake Shop has a great vibe, tasty food, and friendly service. Definitely worth checking out!

While the pastries are classic and exactly what you'd expect from a high-caliber Italian bakery, the real gem is the Italian ice located in the cafe. Good lord, the flavors and quality are on a different level--this isn't that Rita's or DQ garbage. The chocolate and strawberry combination is specifically incredible, honestly better than Godiva chocolate-covered strawberries. It provides that deep, rich profile and authentic taste that defines their Itallian vibe. One professional tip for anyone stopping by: bring cash. The cafe doesn't accept cards, and you don't want to be the one standing there empty-handed when you're that close to the best Italian ice on the planet

When I first got here, the barista was not ready to take orders yet, so I sat down while they prepped for the day. After about 15 minutes they were ready, so I ordered a basic latte and sat back down. The coffee bar has no food and only coffee and matcha drinks, relying on other businesses to fill that gap when they don't offer food at the primary location. The hours on Saturday don't match up with the other local businesses, so it leads to the ability to get coffee but not food till at least an hours time from open. The latte was basic, coffee is of a decent quality and the milk was frothy. No real design work beyond a basic onion off-center. They had one special latte, a pb&j inspired iced latte. Opted against, since they were still prepping for those orders when I went to order. It's functional coffee for the area. Not bad but not special either. It's a place to get a cup of joe on Pratt street, and it's good coffee but nothing to call home about.

I think I could've done without since it wasn't sweet. I want to visit again and have it one more time! The barista was lovely and she didn't rush me at all as I made my choice. She also made great recommendations. It was nice and quiet in the studio though that's not to say they didn't have any other clients beyond the curtain. Everyone was friendly.
