When you go In, the girls are always so sweet and helpful. A favorite is the cannoli cake and the chocolate cream ( unsure of what flavor) . But they said they were excellent. I had a cake made for my friend's 40th wedding anniversary. I worked with Lorena to design the perfect cake and it couldn't have been easier. The cake was absolutely beautiful and the couple was blown away when they saw it. Everyone at the anniversary party couldn't believe how light and fluffy the cake was, and even though the frosting was buttercream, it was still very light and everyone raved about the flavor. It was a Friday morning in October when my wife and I returned to Connecticut for a wedding. We had to wake up and go to Marshalls to grab a dress shirt when we noticed that Chimirri's Italian Pastry Shoppe was located a few spots away so we stopped by to grab some baked goods for both a sugary breakfast and a gift for some friends we were about to visit. This small bake shop reminds me of Connecticut so much because of all the delicious bake shops around and I was very happy to be able to order a big chocolate chip cookie and some sort of marble style cookie with chocolate to go with it. We also grabbed a bunch of random cookies in a box for our friends and they absolutely loved them (I may of snuck a few too). Both of my cookies were solid enough, though I have to admit that this Canadian isn't the biggest Italian cookie fan, they tend to be a little dry for me but both still tasted good. Overall, Chimirri's Italian Pastry Shoppe was a great stop and we enjoyed everything we ordered. Would I give it five stars if I could order a gooey chocolate chip cookie? Chimirri's has been a long standing Wethersfield pastry shop located in the Wethersfield shopping plaza on the Silas Deane Highway. Family owned and operated. They can customize orders for you!. Or you can stop in and order anything from the case. Cases loaded with anything from baked goods, cookies, cake slices, breads and you can sometimes get slices of pizza as long as they don't sell out. And it's the thick kind of a Sicilian style pizza with the airy crispy bottom crust. My hubby loves stopping in and getting a red slice with cheese and I'm partial to the spinach slice, especially if they have sausage and spinach together. Love to come here and get fresh made zeppole and they even do a pistachio filled one which is absolutely delicious. I called 4-5 different bakeries in the Hartford area to order a specialty cake for my mother's 90th birthday. Either they had no time, one said they were not going to be open until next year, even though their web site said they were open. My last phone (which I wish was my first!) was to Chimirri'a Bakery. I spoke with Isabella who was wonderful. I explained what I wanted for a cake and she confirmed everything with myself and the pastry chef who also gave me some great suggestions and the cake was ordered right then! Got the makings of a "pretty nice little Saturday" right there. #oldschool I occasionally stop there for cookies, bread, pastries, cold bakery pizza, dessert or their CT famous Hartford Cream Pie (see what they did there?). They do a good job. This week, I visited Chimirri's for a cheese Danish and a crusty sesame grinder roll. What the cheese Danish lacked in my favorite type of cheese filling, it made up for with uber-freshness and ample icing. The fresh grinder roll was a great vehicle for my home assembly of ham, cheese, local tomato, pickled peppers, basil and Italian dressing. I'm into that Hartford Cream Pie. Not a Boston cream pie, but it sorta is. This is a big a$$, thick, chocolate domed thing with a unique ricotta filling. Always a hit with those hanging out at a BBQ or something. They sell slices as well, so you can sample the various other cakes that are available. That lemon one? Yahhhh, go for it. Also a fan of their Italian cookies, though a cookie platter will require a small bank loan to purchase. Splurge, they are worth it. The Italian Fruit Cake stuffed with whipped cream, fresh strawberries and peaches. TO DIE FOR! Stopped by this gem while running to UPS. Small local bakery in a big plaza, so if you blink you ll miss it. Tons of delicious looking breads, cakes, cookies and pies. I got two slices of pizza, a slice of cheesecake, and a red velvet cupcake all for $10 dollars! I really loved the bread on the pizzas, really flavorful and fluffy. A delectable local Italian bakery! I've tried the rainbow cookies and each of the pasticiottis. The pasticiottis are delicious and probably the most unique item I've tried at this bakery. I brought a dozen to work and they were gone within the hour. The ricotta is my personal favorite, but the chocolate and vanilla are for those looking for more of a sweet than savory flavor. Interior is average, service is friendly and quick, and there is a variety of items to choose from on their menu. Overall, a great place to check out. On a drive to visit family, we stopped for food and it occurred to us we should bring a cake to the relatives house, so thanks to yelp, I checked to see if there were any bakeries in the area. Boy were we in luck! We weren't sure what we wanted, so the woman behind the counter recommended their Hartford Cream Pie, a twist on a Boston Cream Pie, and it looked fancy and was reasonably priced ($15) so we got it boxed up, had the woman write down exactly what was in it for our hosts, and were on our way. We got non stop raves about this pie, telling us the cannoli cream filling was even better than the traditional filling. People were going back for seconds. The pie was a hit! It really is very tasty and just the right amount of cream between layers. I don't think we could have had any better luck with our random find for taste and price. The store is small and in a plaza where I could see it being overlooked, but I'm glad we found it and so is the family. read more

A wonderful small bakery, in a Wethersfield shopping mall. Tucked away in a corner, you just might miss it, if you didn't know to look. I was told about Chimirri's by friends that have been coming since they opened. I have been here a handful of times. Every visit has been pleasurable. The staff is helpful & friendly. The assortment of sweets can be overwhelming. They carry all of the traditional Italian cookies. This comes in handy if you didn't have time to bake for that party, that you've know about for weeks (been there). My favorite treat is the Creampuff. It's gigantic. I have never finished one, by myself. Thank goodness my son shares with me now. Too bad he always gets the cherry! I also love their macaroons (coconut version). There are a few two-seater tables, but most of the business is takeout or pickup. They do a thriving cake business here. I was able to sample one of their cakes at a retirement party, and it was great. This is a very traditional bakery. You won't find funky and crazy here, but you will find delicious and beautiful. read more

When we picked our wedding venue, a cake from chimirri's was included in our contract. A few months later we went to the bridal event at our venue and chimirri's was there offering samples. My fiancé, my parents and I all tried the vanilla with chocolate mouse in the middle. We all looked at each other and didn't even have to try anything else to know that was the one. When our August wedding was cancelled back in June, we were devastated. I still wanted to try their cake, so I bought a birthday cake in that same flavor for my fiancé's birthday. Holy moly! The taste was amazing, not dry at all, and it was beautifully decorated. We were all beyond impressed with the cake. The cake was also amazing, we had chocolate cake with raspberry. It was to die for. The cake was moist, and the flavor combination between the chocolate and raspberry was great. I was also equally impressed when my husband and I went there before our wedding. We went for a cake tasting, and the experience was relaxing, fun, and enjoyable. When I first moved to the area a few months ago, I went on a quest to find the best Italian bread. Chimirri's was the 4th or 5th stop on that quest...and the quest was over. Never mind the low price (that was just a bonus); the bread was fresh and tasty! Then I tried the Hartford Cream Pie...all I can say is OMG! And again, favorably priced! I see some older reviews complaining about the staff. I'm guessing that those folks no longer work there, because everyone I've encountered in my dozen or so visits has been pleasant, helpful and attentive. I love this little bakery! read more

Disgusting pastry! The custard is grainy, no flavor. I don't know what I am eating, corn starch? flour? I make custard all the time, and it is simple and creamy and tastes good. The custard at this shop is made with flour or corn starch. The cookies are so stale and hard, but they look so good. I bought a blueberry pie there last year, and threw the whole pie out. It was a thick gelatin of blue goo stuff that didn't taste like blueberries, and covered with a thick horrible crust. I wanted to taste blueberries!!! I wish I returned it. I made a mistake by going there after visiting the UPS store hungry, and buying $50.00 worth of good looking pastry and cookies. Don't make that mistake, maybe ask for a sample. Then you would know how bad the pastries are. The only thing that was gone from the counter was cheese Danish, which might be good. I should return this and let the cook, who can't possibly be a pastry chef, know how bad his food it. I am sure he never tastes anything he makes. I have never claimed to be a purist or a traditionalist. I know that cannoli are traditionally filled with ricotta, but I find the custard-filled ones just as delicious! The cannoli here are filled to order; the perfectly crisp shell shatters to the bite and makes the cannolo a deliciously messy treat. Grab a bunch of napkins before you bite into your cannolo, for I found myself looking like the tomcat that was caught stealing cream from the dame's larder! The pasticiotti are another form of sweet indulgence that draws me to this bakery. They are filled with ricotta, vanilla pudding, or chocolate pudding. The ricotta-filled and vanilla pudding-filled varieties are my favorites. The almond paste cookies and the pignoli are rich, chewy, nutty goodness, which pair well with a cup of cappuccino. My only quibble with this bakery is that they close at 6PM, which makes it a challenge for those of us who work during the day to enjoy these tidbits as frequently as we would like. read more
