I'm removing a star because the standards seem to be slipping a bit. They switched their bakery and although recently they've been experimenting with their in house baking there's a notable difference between what they outsource and what they make in house. The in house stuff is significantly better in terms of quality and freshness, and although priced high they are usually worth the price. The outsourced items don't seem as fresh and it's hard to justify the prices. The coffee is still balanced between the earthy coffee and the house made flavors for their lattes. The experience has been a bit colder as of late, which is fine if you're grabbing a cup to go, but not if you intend to write some reviews while enjoying a cup. That coupled with the multiple times there's been equipment failures which forced me to go someplace else. I honestly cannot state this is worth the trek to try only because there's a chance you can't get coffee at the cafe. I think it's time for myself to trek for another place. For those who want a good cup of coffee, this place is still good for that. Focus on the house-made stuff, order to go, and enjoy.

The blueberry and chocolate chip scones where delicious and they had other bakery items such as muffins and breads. They put them on a grill when we asked if the scone could be heated so good. The icing on the cake or should I say scone was Brittany singing and Gabe playing his acoustic guitar. They were so talented and humble. Just the coffee alone was an amazing treat! I did a Google search and saw that The Coffee Guy was close to me and that they had a variety of beans that they roast in house. I stopped in to the shop and walked up to their display of bags of coffee beans. The owner introduced himself as well as the staff. They were all very friendly and knowlegable. I made my selection and brought it to the counter to purchase. They also serve coffee and pastry but this trip I just wanted the beans. They offered to grind them to whatever courseness I wanted, but I prefer to grind them at home. A pound of coffee averages $20 and they have a frequent buyer program (when you reach purchases of $100, you get a $5 credit. This is tracked so your purchases accumulate). They also deliver to the area on Wednesday's if you order online by their Tuesday Night deadline. I have tried this and my coffee was on my doorstep before 9 that Wednesday. Very convenient. Lastly, the store is not that big with not much room for sitting (I honestly can't remember if they had seating.) However, if you are looking to source your beans or grab a cup of coffee on the go, this is a great option.

Drum Roll is predominantly a coffee roaster, but they sell some merch as well. They may serve beverages on site, but that doesn't seem to be a focus of the website or store and I was in and out when I visited. I did not see any seating. I bought two things at the small, thin store in OW, and I also recently had cold brew made with Drum Roll coffee at Bake Market in Rocky Hill. The following things stood out. First, the person who helped me, who I assume was the owner, was conversant in coffee terms that matter to me. Sometimes I talk to a store employee about single origins or roast levels, and they don't know what to say. The person who helped me knows coffee and they had a good selection. Second, my Ethiopian Single Origin Beans I used for a home pour over, turned iced coffee, were obviously fresh roasted. You could taste the roast. A coffee can actually be too fresh roasted, and based upon experience, I think some of the listed tasting notes will be more prominent in a few more days. I usually wait 7 to 10 days after the roast date before using coffee. For this reason, putting the roast date on the bag might be a good move. Third, the coffee bag is a high end bag. I buy a lot of craft coffee over the internet. Some places try to have useful bags, and some places try to save money on bags. Drum Roll has a ziplock style seal that makes keeping coffee fresh easier. Their bag is on par with other top places. Fourth, Drum Roll serves canned cold coffee. I'm not sure if they rotate their offerings. I bought one snap chilled Papua New Guinea Cold Brew can. It was very smooth and above average for a canned coffee product. Fifth, I don't remember the exact price, but I remember thinking the price was reasonable. I would definitely buy more bags if I happened to be in OW when I needed coffee beans and Drum Roll is open. Sixth, Bake Market's cold brew made with Drum Roll coffee was rich and smooth. It had a darker flavor and roast profile than I normally I drink, but it was well executed for that style. Based upon all of this, I recommend Drum Roll for people who make coffee at home. While I have my own grinder at home and buy whole beans, they even asked if I wanted the beans ground. 4.5 Stars
